Dr Melba Butler Remembers the March on Washington 

Dr. Melba Butler offers a reflection on her mother’s experience attending the March on Washington. Her mom, Juanita Belva Jones Butler, was active in the Civil Rights Movement and was a member of the Congress on Racial Equality. She traveled that day by bus from New York City to DC and even used her skills as a health professional at the Veteran’s Hospital to help staff one of the health stations at the March on Washington for anyone who might fall ill. Dr. Butler, who was a young girl at the time, and her dad stayed at home watching the event on television, trying to find her mom in that huge crowd.
