No no. I'm talking for his ideas and understanding. RSS version of Hindutva is a flaw. They have a radical interpretation. Shashi Tharoor can beat them in debates easily in any language.
Looking forward to read this book. But INC needs to introspect. INC is the only party with scientific temper and acknowledge intellectual and ideas. Bring back Nehruvian ideas. We need to keep State and Religion separate like Nehru used to say. Bring out booklet on Nehru and spread his thoughts.

ive only recently started following you across social media, and youre one of the only indian politicians with whom my views resonate well, so thank you for existing. however, being an atheist, i was wondering what your comment meant when u said that hinduism is a practice thats inclusive and we give people the freedom of choice and that they are open to practice their faith or whatever they believe as long as it doesnt harm us. well what if its harming them? and no its not a matter of choice for most people in radical religious families. shouldnt the govt intervene when faith comes in the way of human development and individuality? This is one of the only reasons why i justify modi winning the first term. atleast we have a conversation around a common civil court now. (the second term has no justifications and im scared about the third now so PLEASE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER CONGRESS)

Shashi's Thali with separate coexisting bowls, as opposed to Hindutva's Khichdi, is again about the much hyped 'tolerance' as opposed to the more desirable 'acceptance' among communities. The intelligent argument on the Hindutva side (instead of the fundamentalist Hindutva-wadi's argument which Shashi seems to respond to) is that it has been the exclusivist and anti-'kafir' narratives of the Islamists which have hurt the cohesion of the society since the beginning(through things like greater Arabisation of Indian Islam, proselytisation, forced conversions, love-jihad(if exists, I haven't made up my mind yet), etc). They say that this started in the Khilafat movement, followed by the Mopilah riot killings and mass-conversions of Hindus in Kerala. Mind you, Savarkar's book came in such backdrop and RSS was formed in 1925 after all this. Such exclusivity still goes on today in the form of relatively untouched and unreformed personal laws(unlike Hindu civil laws. Can you believe a so-called liberal party's Women wing like INC-Mahila Morcha saying they'll bring back Triple Talaq in 2019?!), State's compulsive behavior(in UPA-2 particularly) to dissociate from things civilizational or Hindu-looking bcz they might hurt minority sentiment while Zakir Nayak's functions could be attended by State Ministers(like Digvijay Singh), etc in the name of secularism, and many more... Shashi admits to the said regressiveness and supremacist tendencies in Islam(like there are in all religions; luckily Hinduism reformed some though needs more reform) which inevitably sabotage fraternity in one of his talks after his earlier book "Why I am a Hindu". My question is: Why dont sane people like him talk about that side of bigotry and only one? Because when they dont take up such issues out of political expediency or intellectual dishonesty, the fundamentalist-type people take up such issues and because they have an element of truth in what they say(though not complete truth), they gain power and things go downhill from right there. All it takes for the mediocre fundamentalists to win is for the good to remain pledged to their faux-secularism. Period.
Dr.Tharoor, the concept of "unity in diversity" and "freedom for people of all faiths to practice their faith and flourish" is rooted in Hindu dharma and the culture of a land that was originally only Hindu. Other religions don't have this concept. Don't you agree that if number of Hindus or even just the Hindutva in India is diminished, then the inclusive concept will go?
Pakistanis should listen to these two talk. Because at the end of the day, moderates will rise to the top from both sides - hopefully sooner than later
I think people need to go beyond Dr.Tharoor's obvious prowess and authority over the English language, lest we miss ruminating on the precious points he makes on a variety of topics ranging from our social and political history, philosophical imploration, our priories today and how we are led to digress from them. For my fellow Indians- please read/listen to credible sources of knowledge and opinions like these, and not social media feeds that continue to mock and dement our intellectual capabilities.
If the opinion about the idea of india i.e amalgamation of different ideas, invasions of British and Mughals or everything that constitute the idea of india is accepted then why are you crying about the idea of India of Modi or RSS? Include their idea too and accept the transition. In course of time, history will accept this as the idea of India by some intellectuals like you. Hindus were always welcoming to the new ideas but not to the misinformation. See the rationality, logic they have proposed while rejecting the idea of God in Samkhya philosophy.
because thats basic. they literally touched this topic in this debate and u missed it. Indians are diverse and thats inevitable, and the only way we can make the best out of that is by being united as a nation and not religion caste etc etc. And due to globalisation other countries, who were essentially founded by there forefathers rather non inclusive, are now adopting what india practiced since always. Unity in diversity. so to answer ur question yes, its possible that india becomes the idea of india that rss wants, but the fact that its very idea is wrong and we need to go forward not backwards has to be vocalised. we cant just accept our doom n do nothing about it.
@@srk111able I am not with the view of Mr. Tharoor. 1. The very party who agreed the division of country in the name of religion. Only the liberal idea of Hinduism can ensure diversity, and respectful of others' views. Dilution of the very idea of Hiduism by attacking its philosophy with a half baked knowledge by the so called liberals are dangerous and disservice to the nation. Those who reminds Hindus to accommodate and respect diversity, how many of them have vigorously objected the very idea of triple talq, and ostracization of Ahmadis, and kadianis in Muslims? It is appeasement?
