Yeah, you can quicker start with manual if you know how to. However big difference is also between VAG EA888 Gen3 IHI IS38 turbo dual injected engine and Hyndai Theta II engine.
Wow, they dont listen to their audience. Having driven many vag cars, to counter the delay which WE ALL see in every drage race episode (rather annoying) can be compensated for by lifting off the brake a bit sooner. Reaction time! Nothing against you Ciro, best SA car reviewer but this drag racing series needs to be sorted out guys.
In true competitive motorsport racing, the lights timing to green is randomised so that the drivers cant anticipate the lights, because anticipating the lights is considered cheating. So when the timing is randomised, you cant just start your launch early since you will get a jumpstart and a penalty. Ciro is driving it correctly, the problem is a design flaw in the VW launch control.
@@amitprulovify I'm referring to the delay between you letting go of the brake and the car starting to move. Dropping the clutch in a manual is much faster.
Should have put the Hyundai in "N" mode and switched the traction controll and stability control of. Should also have adjusted the Hyundai's "launch control" (that is done by using the Cruise Control buttons).
A blessing to thee all round! The purpose of a racing to us isto find out if a car is faster than another car suchwise asin if I race my car against another car then we will find a winner so this race was a good indicator of a faster car.
@@aslam7952 Why would it be cheating. The rules to a drag race is the wheels must not move before the countdown is completed. Only then are u disqualified.
DSG on Mk7 has some stupid delay with LC. I have tried without LC in S mode, and it was made better results. It can be fixed with software update. :) Also with remap it can easily get 380HP, and Golf TCR with that R engine is really stupid fast.
Golf gti tcr: £38,170 I30n performance: £29,810. A weak performance considering the price difference. Note also the i30n smokes the golf gti which sets you back £33,510. You literally have to burn over 8k to have a golf that's faster than the i30n and even then the launch control looks to be engineered by a child.
James Barnes you have no idea what youre talking about - the LC is perfect on MQB but the driver in this race obviously didnt know what he was doing - go look up VW MK7 vehicles and see how good the launch control is... never go based on one video or one source of information my friend that is why the internet exists.
@@neekjp as someone who doesn't know what he's talking about it's surprising I understand a simple concept you yourself have demonstrated to not know and that's that there is no such thing as perfect in engineering. You blew your argument on the starting line. Just like this gti tcr with it's 'perfect' launch control system eh?
@@ciankeulder802 actually the boot is smaller in my market and likely all markets as it makes little sense to offer a larger boot in certain markets. As for fuel costs if you look at the 2 in the video you'd be spending the money saved (2mpg difference) on the insurance on the tcr so no frugality there to be gained once all is said and done. As for looks you're in a minority on that one.
Remember i30N costs 679k while the TCR costs 675k so it is a fair comparison. The standard GTI costs ways less, over 110k less it's not the direct competitor.
Having owned the 7.5 Gti performance edition, I knew the TCR was going to win because even with that one, the i30N would be given a serious run for its money. But the launch on it is awful, my goodness.
Man, the Gti launch control is surprisingly bad. Same thing happened with the Civic. VW should have got off the line way better considering power to weight.
@@derickturner2655 just because the look like a beetle does not make it a VW... they don't have the money to make things that reliable... but they have money to lie about exhaust fumes 🥱
if you play the video with the sound on you will hear him say that the launch control is delayed, you let go of the brake and the car launches a moment later.
These reces are redundant you need to go manual vs manual... better race will be i30N vs Megane R.s280 but they will probably have the 300 lol... Rigged just like everything in Africa lol
Come on guys, the gti TCR has 11 kw more than the I30n, 213 kw to 202kw. TCR has 27nm more torque, 380nm to 353nm. Torque on the TCR available at 1700rpm compared to 4700rpm on the I30n. I should have said this first, the TCR has a dsg gearbox I30n has a manual. To conclude the gti weigh 194 km less, 1310kg to 1504kg on the I30n. This drag is for non car enthusiast.
@Adam Sam there is only one sunroof option for the golf and it‘s called panorama roof. In my opinion the name is confusing, because it‘S just a tiny bit bigger than a regulat sunroof and by no means a panorama sunroof. It does look big from the outside tho
@@dominiquedistefano I just checked the specs on a offcicial hyundai data sheet and it says 80kg extra.. I guess i disunderstood the thing with 120kg but the sheet says defininitly 80kg
Tf you talking about. Driving dynamics are arguably better or equal, sound is much better, steering feel is better etc. And with the new dct it will shred the GTI. An automatic transmission will almost always win against a manual when power is similar because it shifts quicker.
PTG_St3v3oh I’m talking value for money overall. Build quality, performance, resale, luxury look and feel.. Hyundai priced that car wrong , you would see more on the road had it been priced better, long term I think that would help get more people in them and build up an N following much like you have a GTi following. Totally wrong approach. But good luck to them, they have done well since entering SA.
@@SuperMacmac74 I don't know about pricing in other countries but in Germany the i30N is cheaper than the GTI, 5 years of warranty and when you go to dealers to buy one you usually get discounts up to the point where you can get a brand new one for around 29000€ (that's like 10k off sticker). Aftermarket prices are also very stable, the worst models have yet to drop under 20k which is similar to GTI levels here. I see them on the road a lot. Not GTI levels of course, but I see at least 1-2 an hour
When can we see new Focus ST n this channel. I hates the 13-18 ST but damn the 2020 was a HuGE surprise. It was superb.. has lot of space, good quality inside.. ride was better and handling too felt better and the engine felt like a torque monster between 2000-4500 rpm. I felt it almost as fast as a TCR n straight line too
Bro you need to feather the accelerator with a mk7 especially off the line , full power will just cause zero traction. Theres no way a manual car is beating a dsg . What a shame
@@BBRBGR They sound similar, sort of like an Australian trying to not sound Australian. Then you have other south africans with a straight up British accent as a result of being educated at formerly English colony schools. Then you have those that pronounce country as "cow-ntry" who got their education who knows where.
Please rematch with the civic. The gti Tcr is quick, maybe it's using the wrong tyre pressure in order for it to keep spinning like that. Reduce the pressure or make the tyres hot. Let's have another go @ the civic
Its not a tcs issue its the clutch not engaging quickly. But sure he could have just raced without the launch and would have been a better race to watch
I must say with the weight and torque disadvantage...and the Korean manual( TCR is not so impressive)..Just bear in mind Vw has been doing hot hatches for ages😨..this is the Koreans first attempt(they must just make a special)and its not even a 1/300 limited😉
This video doesn’t show impressive the TCR actually is. They weight about the same and the TCR does have a 15hp advantage not much though. But it you check out the actual paper times you’ll see that the tcr smokes the i30n at 0-60 and is almost a full second faster at 1/4 miles which is a huge difference fastestlaps.com/comparisons/p92soviigfmc
Do you know that hyundai werent even the engineers for the i30N.The developers were from BMW.If hyundai made it themselves it would be an absolute shitbox
Awesome reviews and drag races as always... Quick one, could u add recommended dealerships to the platform, maybe guys that can handle logistics for export purposes.. just thinking it would be nice to expand the market beyond borders... Greetings from Uganda...
What a stupid race, that is a special edition GTI with lots more power than the standard version, and costs a lot more than the i30N it’s also DCT, and the N is manual, also the N has a pano roof which adds 50kgs of weight, put the new facelift i30N against a standard GTI and it’ll murder it.
Yeah, anyone knows in drag racing especially timed racing, you want to leave soon as it turns green for the best reaction time so it's not cheating unless you leave on Red baba!
Well... same bad time reaction of VW driver. Please change it and try again, if you want be considered a reference in terms of drags, measure the times of 1/4 and 0-100, make various trys with different drivers or just watch CarWow... sorry but its the same bad test of Civic Type R
This guy is a fart tho, against the civic you knew the launch is delayed.... I mean don't they test the cars?? Even if he just pressed the accelerator it would have been faster.
@@aslam7952 it wouldn't be cheating if the car only leaves on the green.... Plus if he took off without the launch control I am sure it would have been better
