The movie is definitely canon, and is currently being retold in the Manga. The name for Gero’s son is new, but we now do have an actual DB production stating that 16 was modeled after him instead of that only being in supplemental material & DBZA. Also, making the model for Android 21(from FighterZ) be Gero’s wife is now also canon thanks to this. Also, don’t know if you caught it, but Magenta had 2 pictures on his desk at the beginning: Commander Red, his father, and Colonel Violet, with the implication being she’s his mother
Except they also said that he had two sons, with the grandson being the kid of the other son, not the one who joined Red Ribbon and on whom Android 16 was based on.

Love the contrast from "Aww man, I dunno about it being 3D" to "Why is this making me cry, man?". They really put a ton of effort into the 3D animation in this movie. Basically every frame of this movie gets corrected by a 2D animator, and then those corrections are applied back onto the 3D models to make things like faces look more accurate to the 2D designs (since dragon ball faces kinda don't work in 3D). Then they'll go in and manually scrub out some details to simplify the line art in some of the more chill scenes. You really hit the nail on the head when you said you kinda forget about it by the halfway point. Personally, my favourite detail is all the background animation. Basically every character is doing stuff when they're in the background of shots. Nobody is ever just standing still. Pan is the best to watch. You'll have scenes where Gohan and Piccolo are talking, and Pan is down on the ground trying to reach Gohan's hands, or looking at where he's pointing. There's a moment where she finds Carmine's glasses on the floor, and picks them up to check them out while Gohan is looking for his glasses. She's like that for the entire movie, if you ever go back to this movie, I urge you to just watch Pan whenever she's on screen.
This reminds me of the OLD old days of this channel when half the reaction videos were just Eric on his own with a shitty camera, smoking a cigarette while he watched 😂
Akira Toriyama said that "If Cell Max had been completed according to plan, he would have been a superhuman who even Broly couldn't defeat, but since he was forcibly activated, he became an uncontrollable monster" Also, Gohan's new form is called "Beast Form"

The nostalgia and utilization of the other characters aside from Goku & Vegeta, was absolutely amazing. Loved the different techniques that weren't just "more powerful energy beams"
This movie gives the fans what they want and not what the marketing team thinks what the fans want. As much as I love this movie I must admit that I love how much Eric loved it more.
I think part of the reason Cell Max's lack of a character works better than most other movie villains, is because there were a bunch of other villains movie to pick up the slack on the personality front and ultimately Cell Max isn't really the villain of the movie, so much as he is the final obstacle the villain unleashes.
8:25 The Dr. Gero family tree is 100% canon. Gevo died off-screen when Kid Goku attacked the Red Ribbon army and Dr. Gero created Android 16 in his image, as opposed to 17 and 18 who were kidnapped teens made into cyborgs.
I remember in the movie theater, watching the animation was unbelievable. My mind was blown with the incredible visuals. And the choreography during Goku Vs Vegeta 😱
I've been kind of skeptical about individual reactions in general because to me the appeal of the channel is the concept of group reactions, but I really enjoyed this! Eric's personality and enjoyment of dragon ball definitely carry this video, and it's kind of warmed me up for maybe seeing future reactions in the future similar to this one, who knows, fun experiment either way
That was really fun to watch along with you. Gohan's new form is Gohan Beast, and we know almost nothing about how it works. And yup, this movie is canon, and we're currently in the opening part of it in the manga.
Honestly, while I love the fights in DBS Broly, I think I actually like this movie more because it just feels like such a celebration of Dragon Ball in its entirety. It's got the humor of OG Dragon Ball, the epic fights and transformations of Z and Super, tons of callbacks to DB, DBZ, and DBS, and we're just on the edge of the DBZ epilogue with Pan beginning her training and Goten and Trunks finally getting aged up. Also, while Gohan got the big moment at the end, this was absolutely a Piccolo movie, which made me so happy. One thing I will say, though, is that you're really telling me Piccolo couldn't come up with anything better than Orange Piccolo? The guy that came up with Makankosappo (Special Beam Cannon), Masenko, Makuhoidan (Hellzone Grenade), etc. Come on, he'd at least throw Demon (Ma) in there somewhere.
Woohoo. Great movie, very few issues and nitpicky at best but overall lots of fun, great choices to not focus on goku and vegeta, and great blending of plot and combat. I would still say Super Broly is my favorite but this is also amazing. And a great number 2

I'm sure everyone here will eventually tell Eric, but in case nobody does gohans new white hair form is called "beast gohan." Essentially he's releasing the beast within himself to explode out and show his immense power

This was a great love letter to old fans. Brought me back to the old days when Gohan was my favorite. Drawing his ss2 form in class. Watching toonami at the rec center after school. The piccolo characterization especially with Pan was great. Her true grandfather. Loved this movie, a well deserved spotlight on the "cast" apart from Goku and vegeta who don't really have character arcs persay.
I love how, after having homogenous transformation levels based on species for like all of DBZ, we’re now getting unique looking and unique operating top-tier transformations. Goku has Ultra Instinct, Vegeta has Ultra Ego, Gohan has this new Beast form, and of course Piccolo has orange piccolo.

This movies has actually made such an impact on me, it prooved me that i should NEVER judge a book by it's cover. The 3d was actually INSANE. Loved it, the movie was so good. My only cons are : - End is not taking too seriously - Beast out of nowhere (i'd buy it with an explanation but there isn't) - No explanation for Orange Piccolo.
I remember reading years ago that Toriyama had an idea for Gohan's new transformation. This was before DBS. He said he had an idea for white hair but then he came up with another idea for something else [we now know was UI] he changed it.

I really liked the movie. When I finished watching it I told my brother it was a Dragon Ball movie more than a Z or Super movie, at least until the big fight. If only they had not gone for the 3d animation. Piccolo and Pam were so good and Gohan was always my favorite
Its weird seeing a solo reaction, but it was cool seeing Eric just geek out to Dragon Ball history. And yes Rage Gohan really reminded me of the super sayian 5+ art that would come out after GT.
Little interesting point, the intro scene was actually ALSO 3d animated, it just looks 2d due to the filter effect used to give that old flashback feel for it
I enjoyed 3D animation, it came a long way from the earlier days of the tech. They worked very well into the fighting and the character designs. Nice to see Gohan back to his peak, always awesome to see Pan, sad about Bulma being more shallow in her older age, and great seeing the rest of the crew. Thanks for the solo reaction.

The intro to this movie makes me very much yern for a complete reanimation of DragonBall Z. Not to replace to original by any means... but allow a new generation to bring life to it. As iconic as it is, some of the original series doesn't hold up and by just replacing the visuals and keeping the voices and sounds of the originals intact... I think many would happily take it.
Pretty fun movie - while im not sure about Gohans hair in that new form, the moment and the aura looked really cool, the sorta fusion of 2d/3d animation really did work, i was hesitant when i first heard it, but it really animated well
I felt the same about beast gohan's hair at first, but tne thing I didn't think about until I watched Eric react to the movie is that shots of his head/hair in the new form look a lot like he did as a kid. And that brought me back around on it!

Man, watching your reaction brung back the hype that I had with this movie when I first saw it. It was so cool. The Gohan (beast) transformation isn't a Super saiyna thing. It's completely unique for Gohan. The transformation with piccolo was (Power Awakening) before Orange. Official names there. The Cell that was shown there was 100% a machine. Or just a rampaging incomplete machine. It was still cool to see, but it was also terrifying to think about what could have been if it was complete. As for this story, it is 100% Canon to the anime and manga and actually took place after the Arc that was ongoing in the manga at the time despite the movie being released before that one ended. This also made me want to play dokkan battle immediately for Piccolo and the Gammas 😁
