Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi Comparisons 

BT1 tried something new. Bandai saw they had a gameplay formula that worked. BT2 improved on that formula, and BT3 perfected it. It's easy to see.

When I got bt2 it felt like the greatest game I had ever played

The only thing that BT2 beats 3, is the storyline but the rest 3 is the best game. Still love both games.

Even though I respect your opinion, I think you were a little harsh on Budokai Tenkaichi 1. You noted more negatives than positives, and you rarely mentioned the other modes. Also, some complaints(the whole training menu thing) just seem nitpicky. And before people come to tell I'm nostalgia blind, I'm not. And I'm not saying the review is bad, I just think it should've been a little more organized and informative.

I don't care what anyone says or even what the guy who made this video said. I LOVE ALL THREE of these games, they were my childhood.

Ahh the good old days. Budokai came out when I was about 8-9, loved it. Bought Budokai 2 and 3 when they came out, then went on to buy Budokai Tenkaichi 1/2/3. By the end of the 3rd game I'd grown up, never played a DBZ game since. Loved them though, the replayability was awesome. Always played tournaments with my friends, sometimes we'd get 2 characters each. Was great.

BT1 was great for it's time, I couldn't wait to come home from school just to play it.

I'm surprise you didn't mention the music. BT2 had some of the best fighting themes of any DBZ game and easily the best of the Tenkaichi series, that was the one thing BT3 failed badly in.

Personally if you ask me the one thing I'd say Tenkaichi 1 actually does better than 2 and 3 is the character Auras.

I don't fuckin care what people think. Budokai Tenkaichi 1, 2, 3 just the best for Dragon Ball Z games on PLay Station. After that everything went to hell.

I enjoyed BT1 a lot back then, I used to play it all the time with my friends and my cousin and it was pretty fun, of course as games get better the oldest start to seem worse but come on... give it a break, it was amazing when there was nothing better.

BT2 and 3 are the best DBZ of all time.

You know in Tenkaichi 3 you can make goku eat faster by pressing square really fast so you can make more stacks of bowls while waiting

I played so many hundreds of hours of all three games, especially Tenkaichi 3 :D Best fighting game by far! Wish they would make a legit Tenkaichi 4 already! I would even pre order it

I remember when this first came out when I was a kid. Changed my life.

There were a couple things that came out of this series that are still the best, not only among the BT series, but also among pretty much everything else that has come out since. BT2 had, by far, the best story mode. The semi open world format gave side fights and made gaining experience and finding Dragonballs much easier. The BT1 story mode was ok and the BT3 story mode just felt cheap and abbreviated. BT3 had the best character roster of any DBZ game that's come out so far. The perfect DBZ game = Xenoverse graphics + BT3 roster + BT2 story mode + BT/RB combat style + UT character creation + BT1 music. The RB2 Galaxy Mode would also be a nice addition along with RB level customization where you can change auras, add a halo, etc. Something new to add would be a character builder mode where you take a character like Raditz, Bardock, or Turles and work them through a series of missions to raise their power and get to see them turn Super Saiyan.

A problem I had with bt3 is that the story lines r 2 short e.g in the Frieza saga the first fight is Goku vs the Ginu force, they miss a lot of the story like vegeta fighting zarbon

Looking back, Xenoverse doesn't have the same feeling of pain that BT3 and BT2 had. Just a lot of looking at my hp bar looking to see how much damage that ult did. And the rumbling gets annoying.

I am going to be honest I don't care for the soundtrack for these games. The Raging Blast games and Ultimate Tenkaichi though has fantastic music. The gameplay of BT2 and 3 still hold up. I wish they would go back to their old formula. They just need to add more combo potential. A mixture of BT2/3 and the RB games. The supers and ultimates should have the RB and Ultimate Tenkaichi presentation. The story should be a mixture of Infinite World and RB1. As well as brining back the game modes of these games. Sprinkled with local and online multiplayer. They should also use both Tenkaichi Tag Team and the main BT games team battles. The roster should be packed with characters throughout all of Dragon Ball. These cobbled together would make ultimate Dragon Ball game.

BT1 was my favorite of the trilogy. I don'y know why. It also looks the best to me.

I loved all three. The first BT was basically them making a DBZ game much more like how it is in the anime TV series. The fighting Dynamics and combos were on par with how it was in the anime series. And we're beautiful if you asked me. You start off with four sagas and and could pick any one of them. More characters added and even having the option to choosing one in their transformed state. Sadly couldn't transform nor go back to a normal form here. Also battles and conditions were like the show. Defeating an enemy with a certain finishing move, surviving until time runs out against a powerful opponent and more. BT2 enhanced in BT1. You can transform and go back to normal form with some characters. The fighting game play was even more like the anime series and pretty intense. More fighting maneuvers and better graphics. A very long story mode with even more battles. The music was amazing. The ONLY big downside with this game was, the was no combo breaker like it's predecessor. It's like you take turns with an opponent. They hit you and pull combos and you don't really have a shot until they're done. Really wasn't fair that you couldn't get out which seemed unfair to me. BT3 though brought back combo breakers and even MORE maneuvers. Which made it more fair with fighting an opponent. More characters too and their forms. A huge downside with this one though was the story mode. If they didn't want the extra long one like BT2, they should of just made it at least similar to BT1.

The bt series are awesome. I think bt3 is the best dbz game EVER. But that's my opinion.

Find it sad how BT1 has tons of more sales than BT2, BT2 couldn't even reach a million yet.

Budokai Tenkaichi was awesome. I loved the trilogy. I got a ps2 emulator just so I could play the series.

BT1 actually had pretty good graphics for a 2005 game

I didn't really see a difference in graphics between BT1 and 2.

There was just something about the first temkaichi that hits different than the others. Maybe its because I remember a time when it was all we had at the time which makes me appreciated it alot more.

For all the people than say that story mode in BT3 is bad, they dont see that the objetive in this mode is different of all the story mode of other DBZ games. In Bt3 the objetive is to reverse a disadvantage battle. The game reward you for fight in this condition and give to you a transformation, a help with a team ally , restore yor health or give a ultimate technique to reverse the destiny of this battle. The feeling that produce is amazing.

"It's PS2 you shouldn't expect good graphics" Do people read the information right below the video before broadcasting their idiotic and enraged opinions? This video was uploaded in 2007, back when the PS3 barely had any games and the PS4 was barely an idea. I think he had a good understanding of what to expect from a PS2 game when he made this video. Not to mention that all three Tenkaichi games were PS2 games, so it's even more baffling that people would remind him that BT1 is an old game when BT2, whose graphics he liked, was released only a year later. Just goes to show some people are just total morons without a hint of common sense.

Who is still watching this in 2024

BT3 improved on a lot of things from 2 gameplay wise. Perfect Smashes, Z-Counter, new smashes/follow-ups and it refined a number of mechanics. It isn't as big as the jump from BT1 to BT2, but the changes are still very noticable. The biggest issues with BT3 were the story was incredibly short compared to BT2 and guard cancels were removed.

In order to understand how good the first 2 games were you must play them even after they are completed for example both of them have extra modes where you fight and either rank-up or complete stages

BT3 For gameplay, BT2 For Story, BT1 for the Music and intro.

P.S. I know its your opinion but holy crap man stop bashing tenkaichi 1 its from 2005 give it a break. plus, its the first game in the series, the makers were trying new things, and once they learned their mistakes, the fixed 90% of them in #2. That's how you learn. Ok, rant over :)

Damn you’re very critical of Budokai T1. I mean I was 10 years old when I got the game and appreciated it more. As a 22 year old I definitely agree that 2 and 3 are improvements but at the time, the first was pretty good. All games will suck when the sequels come out

ufff That's a lot of hate on BT1 tbh. I have to disagree with you for the first time ever. While BT2 and BT3 were significant improvements, BT1 was the best of its time. The combat also had way more combos and techniques than what you've shown in the video. Also the character models were perfect. It also introduced new features like Ultimate 100 challenge, character bios and customizations and unlocking unique characters with mixing items. One thing I do agree with is the annoying "New game - Load game" screen which made me erase my save once.

One thing I liked in BT2, as minor as it is, is the variety in pitch of the punch sounds. It just sounded way better than in BT3.

The only thing BT1 really has over the sequels is the music (It is the Budokai soundtracks, after all). Everything else is infinitely better in the sequels.

All three Tenkaichi games are shown in this video. I haven't played the first game so if you were referring to that one then it might make sense to me. Otherwise BT2 and 3's controls registered perfectly and the gameplay in them was rock solid. Of course the latter is subjective and it's fine if you don't care for the gameplay.

BT1 in my opinion was an experiment to see how successful the game would be. Considering that there were two sequels, I'd say it was a success. However, that doesn't excuse the lack of depth in the fighting BT1. When playing the game, I had to challenge myself to find more creative ways of fighting, such as restricting B2 and Ultimate usage, or not using basic energy attacks, etc. That should not be necessary. I should be able to explore the system and find depth without limiting myself.

I always loved the open after the title screen on BT2, it felt more peaceful

that's why i said i liked them a bit more than in BT3 it's such a small graphical improvement that's really more of an different approach on the auras.

His criticism of the the background menu screens that no one cares about and the mini games that no one cares about and the space between the ending taunts that no one cares about is a little strange, but there is SOME stuff I actually agree with here.

The only, and I mean the only, problem I have with BT3 is that you can longer bruise up your opponent by simply punching and kicking them like you could in BT1. You have to use your ultimate to do so. In my opinion, good, detailed character damage is one of the most important traits in any DBZ game.

you can't really complain about BT1, it was when the BT series was just starting out so they're still trying to see how everything works first. when i first played bt1 i loved it

I think that Bt2 is more focus in story mode and character attack /deffense diference levels ( levels that you get in story mode) ,BT3 is more center in tag team and in combine rush with "ultimates" (B2/UB) because is more faster. In addition in BT3 everything can be evaded and the counter attack are more important.

The models are more refined in the newer games, but the hair models are better in BT2/3 imo. The hair is shaped better, the line art is more defined and the hair waves when flying.

I think bt2 and bt3 looks goods and the ghophics looks nice and the gameplay looks awsome

The upgraded visuals, expanded movelists, and bigger roster of 3 and even 2 make 1 look like a joke, but 1 has by far the most detailed environments.

i forgot to mention that budokai tenkachi 2 had more customers buy it than the other two ign even stated it made more money outta the three

There's one aspect that changed between Tenkaichi 1 and Tenkaichi 2 that isn't mentioned here... The fact that you couldn't transform mid-battle in Tenkaichi 1, whereas you can in 2 and 3.

My childhood

Out of the trilogy, BT3 is more replayable than the other two and even follows all three series rather closely. They even separated the movies into a brilliant "saga" so it doesn't clutter up the main flow of the game.

It's amazing how far the series has come with 2 sequels and now the Raging Blast games which are basically the same thing with even more features. Pretty cool.

I only real problem I had with BT2 were the rushes. The only way to stop one was to either power-guard or Sway it, but even if you did, they didn't lose any ki for a failed attempt. I also didn't like the aerial attacks. They did way too much damage and were unvanishable once you were in one.

The only good things about BT1 was Captain Ginyu's body change; unlike the later versions you could actually switch bodies with the opponent you're fighting and the opening was so badass. The openings for the later games were too childish and wasn't as cool

BT1 wasn't a bad beginning at all, it was only the start and is the grand daddy of BT3 and RB1/2 Its the base of its 4 successors and i respect its ideology. BT2 Huge improvement, each character had a block for heavy smash attacks on each side up and down (they scraped this perk along with the high speed rush, in for BT3) BT3 " AwesomeOne0111" said it better than me. the only spark of a let down for BT2 and 3 is that Lord slug fought like a muppet. In movie 4, he had a lethal style upclose

bt 2 definitely had the best AI to train or fight with,that's why it was important to keep both of last two games around to get the best of both worlds

i would say bt2 was the best step up in the dbz games, saying like how much they improved from bt1. bt3 did step up to but i would say as much lol the music kinda got worse and the graphics stayed the same. but for some weird reason i want to buy budokai 1 again and 2

I think all dbz have something unique within them. All of the one's i've played had potential but none of them is that one dbz game that has everything a dbz fan can dream of.

I miss being able to doge melee attacks in DBZ games like at 9:42. It was a really cool mechanic and something you'd see all the time in the shows that really is a pleasure to execute if you manage to doge entire combos like that. Would love to see more DBZ games include a system like that tied to your stamina so you couldn't dodge forever.

Same thing here, I absolutely loved BT2 and I'm so upset I can't play it on PS3. The soundtrack is legendary. I hate the transformations in the new games too. BT2 was so liberating. But I never got to play BT3, and from what I can see, it's BT2, just BETTER. They should make an HD remake of it. lol
