Loved that mill deck in game 1... In the future when playing against mill decks can you give us more of an update on your library count? It's hard to follow how close it is when we have no idea how many cards are left.

the second game (where seth was 1 dmg short) might have ended up differently if he chose to kill the crab and play the dragon next turn. Seth def had some edge there. The matches were very fun to watch too.

Oddly, it seems like "Dragon" and "Fling" may be the weakest part of this ramp/mana/card draw engine. Beanstalk giant seems like it may be more useful, both fueling the engine and providing a giant thing to fling. Though really, you can generate so much card / mana advantage, it's not clear that a 4/4 flyer for 4 is the best thing you can really accelerate into.

One thing that generally confuses me when sideboards again mill, is why not just play with more than 60 cards, sometimes the extra cards can be enough to make the difference.

because diluting your deck with cards that may (and probably) have no text does not help you win a game. Unless you run an abnormally high number of lands in the deck it's rarely correct to sideboard in your whole sideboard.

The 2nd game of Match 1 was a good example, being up even 5 cards would've enabled a win! The high number of the MDF lands make it wayyyy easier to get away with it.

@@Threadoflength, Of course, I understand the point of the land balance. My point being is when you are playing against mill, it's probably wiser to include the cards you want from the sideboard, don't worry about the ones that are not useful, as I didn't mention anything about including all 75. As Hungry Hungry Hobo mentioned below, just including a few extra cards, would have meant that Seth won.

On the 1st match against mill I would have boarded in the 15 sideboard cards and play with a 75 card deck.

42:25 you missed an excellent opportunity. You said "Can't really play extra lands because of these Confounding Conundrums," but that's exactly what you are supposed to do! You had two powerful MDFC lands on the battlefield, and picking them up by playing an extra land that turn would have effectively drawn you two extra spells that game by sacrificing a land. You're all about card draw, Seth! "Draw" the cards!

19:50 Why no attack with radah first? it had first strike and you had mana to pump. Also since you were up against mill escape pretty much gave them the game.

You want to play the extra lands off of Escape to the Wilds to put them into your hand so you don’t have to Exile them to the Impulse draw. You still make mana off of the extra lands you drop. Also you had at least three turns where you could have used the Green Mythic Land to get Radha.

Outside of Midnight Clock, are there any cards in Standard like Elixir of Immortality/ that shuffle the yard back into library? With how strong Mill is and how much draw power and vomit my hand/library onto battlefield/into the yard a lot of decks have right now that type of effect would be great for sideboards.

Not really Dimir control and Esper(they often run elspeth also) doom foretold sometimes play clock in the sideboard and they and the other decks play escape cards like Kroxa, Ox of Agonas, cling to dust etc. to get value off decks like Omnath mill and rogues.

In game 1 why didn't you sideboard? 2x Azusa, 2x Soul Sear, 1x Cinderclasm --> 1x Return to Nature (tutelage), 2x Scooze (big threat), 2x Shock (reach)

Literally just brewed something like this. I hope it rocks EDIT: As per usual, Seth's brew is better than mine. I went for a more aggro build with Fireblade Charger, some equipment, and then Unleash Fury for a big fling. Less consistent but definitely fun!

Just an observation from the deck list that I'm seeing, before I actually watch the video, if you do use this list to update your own, you may also want to include Torbran, for those extra few points of damage on each instance of damage

@@PerhapsOOTMM honestly omnath aint that scary without the uro. Sure if they draw like gods it is, but otherwise it often lacks the lategame reach. Sometimes you kill omnath and they are stuck twiddling their thumbs

I'm running it at platinum (yeah, I know, low tier) and it has been really good for me. Not sure if the exactly same list but it works

Absolutely! I have played different version of mill, both monoblue and the better dimir version, and I have been having a lot of succes with it. I suggest you visit mtgdecks .net for some examples.

The core deck is viable. I am #137 mythic and occasionally see mill decks ranked around 600ish. You need to switch out some cards to answer the meta tho.

I love mill as a concept I even love playing it, but playing against it feels so bad even if you win. just losing access to cards in your deck and them 'changing' the card you would draw feels horrible.

Arena doesn’t count the spell-lands towards the land/hand smoothing. Arena only counts those cards as spells.

Vs the mill deck, you should have won game 2 by just using your removal on the 1/1 instead of letting him block your creature. Your removal just sat in your hand and you were 1 point short.

I think that's one of the challenges of our current Standard. To make something like Leyline Tyrant + Fling work you need a lot of mana, but that requires playing ramp, and people are sick of ramp. Does the coolness of throwing a Dragon at someone's face outweigh the uncoolness of ramp? I'm not sure.

@@MTGGoldfish I think it does definitely outweigh in coolness. I was just blown away by how strong the ramp package was by turn four you had over 8 Mana That is tron level strong.

Just an opinion Seth; I honestly hate that you show a portion of the video at the beginning. It ruins what I’m going to see in the future and would rather watch than be baited. I used to watch intros but now I just skip bc it annoys me a little :(
