@@asmcintSaiyan's like youuuuu, think that THE DEVIL is just one of these once in a thousand years legends that only likes to write short stories about his space adventures with his father, and how he likes to play with his big snake friend named Ba.
@@Samwise_Ass throughout the commentary, whenever they are trying to describe "passive" Broly they use words often used to describe typical autistic people. They were noticeably trying to be delicate about it, like they were trying not to say something in particular. To be fair I think a lot of saiyans are somewhere on the spectrum anyways- especially pure blooded saiyans. (Though I haven't seen passed Buu so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
You know, looking back on it, TFS accidentally made Broly autistic. Sensitivity to sensor input, fixation/obsession with a particular subject, prone to repeating words or phrases, an unusual reaction to how things sound, look, feel, etc, and a lack of fear/more fear than normal. TFS in the weirdest way possible has the most sincere representations of autism, whether intentional or not. Kudos on them.
When they added the line “he would like Thomas the tank because they tell me what the emotions are on their faces” even if they didn’t mention it directly in the video, they almost *definitely* planned him to be on the spectrum.
@@Cayenne_Pepperthey also dance around making jokes about it several times. Like they pretty clearly want to confirm that the intent was to make Broly autistic but I think they were worried about sounding offensive
Headcanon: Pilaf's therapist is the same one who treated Vegeta during the time skip before the Buu Bits, because they have a specialty in Goku-related trauma sjdsfjsdf
That, and the idea that they have PTSD from their experiences with Goku is brilliant. A lot of OG dragon ball villains would panic once they realise what kind of monster they were up against
@@linstitubeur2175 Normally you use what for things and who for people. A joke isn't person, it's a thing. So "what's the fourth?" Also 4 is spelled four
Preceded by: Goku: "Okay, Gohan. I was going to save this for Cell, but I need to look deep and let go-" Gohan: "Let's go? Got it." *flies away* Goku actually had a plan, Gohan unwittingly blew it!
Which is really funny because of all the villains Goku has faced in OG DB, the Pilaf gang is the one group he never remembers due to how relatively weak they are. He remembers the Red Ribbon Army and Tao. He remembers King Piccolo. The Pilaf Gang except for maybe Mai as of late due to the Goku Black arc ever blips on his radar.
Pilaf was the first person to have genuinely tried to KILL his friends and freed King Picalo who did kill Krillin so ya he me be the one guy he feels genuine animosity towards.
I'll say this; it's tragic the TFS crew was *that* burnt out by the time Cell ended, because like they point out here, they were on their *A* game. Everything flowing together so seamlessly, so effectively. It was just home run after home run. ...But, then stuff happened, more stuff happened, some people left and we don't get to know what happened and... Hahhh. In case I forget to write this for the finale, thanks for everything, guys. You were a part of my formative teenage years and that's awesome. Watching the Christmas specials is still a holiday tradition for me and my younger siblings.
Sad thing is? A lot of people screaming for them to do the Buu saga never got they got burnt out or they got tired of getting hammered by Toei on copyright strikes. Or don't care.
Idk, at the end of the day I'm not sad the show got to end anymore. The truly sublime and serendipitous is addicting, and every part of me wishes they kept going, and seeing the Buu Bits really felt like watching an old sports pro playing one more game and just crushing it still. Real Rocky Balboa shit, but... You can always say "keep going." And I'm not a professional writer by any context, but I get that want to just keep going with a story. Just getting to play DnD and stuff let's you feel that. But getting a show to end? And to end properly? And now we have a satisfying epilogue, fan service part 4? DBZA stands with the rare likes of Bojack Horseman, Avatar and Breaking Bad in that it got to end. On its terms. And it was perfect. The Cell Saga is perfect. And the last several movies are god sent.
@@StealthMarmot_ sorta. i have never heard steroids themselves referred to simply as "juice". the terms juicing or juiced are used, but never just juice.
@@charleswisconsin9196I've heard the phrase "on the juice" being used on the subject of steroids once or twice. Either way it's funnier to me imagining these galaxy buster aliens fixate on what kind of fruit/vegetable juice someone drank during their training
Well let's break that down, you know, to kill the joke, because that's my SHIT. Juice is typically a fruit or veggie that is pulped and mixed to make a delicious nutritional drink. These sayans get humongous power boosts based on Damage they take and their emotional states. We can deduce that Vegeta probably focused on Grape Juice for his rock blasting scream training. Because it's upsetting to drink. He thought being mad=Stronk but you never know. Maybe the secret to Legendary SSJ Is actually Carrot juice?? But then....kARRot?? KAKAROT???!!
"Why didn't we know the safe word?" "It was lost to time." Might be the best joke. It just hits so perfectly, all the other jokes from those guys built to it wonderfully.
I love the idea that Goku is such a simple guy that he doesn't recontextualize people from his past as he ages and grows. So to him enemies he fought back in like Muscle Tower and Baba's palace are go to examples of serious, powerful foes, just because they seemed that way to him when he first met them.
I feel like he can, but only when *he* sees it. Piccolo, Krillin, Vegeta, and Tien he saw, and was directly involved in their moral turns and seeing them grow. Pilaf, more or less dissapeared and thus Goku wouldn't trust anything he would say.
@@MegaKH2fan For all Goku knows, Pilaf and his gang was training just as hard as he was. He doesn’t have any reason to realize exactly how weak they are, as Piccolo and Tien kept up their training
54:18 Normally, there’s always something different between the original & the TFS versions, when it comes to villain motivations in these movies; Turles hated Christmas, Slug hated being compared to King Piccolo, Cooler hated being compared to Frieza, Androids 13, 14 & 15 were considered defective, and Dr. Wheelo was a good guy. The beauty is that Broly’s backstory is so stupid, nothing about it needed to be changed at all, and it’s still hilarious!
Nah, you're trippin' if you think Broly's backstory was stupid. Broly literally was mind controlled by his father with the use of that device on his forehead. It prevented him from turning LSSJ. But if you observe his behaviour you can literally see that in his base form he's really melancholic, almost as if he was drugged or something. And then the closer he gets to LSSJ the less influence that device has on his actions. The theory is, Broly in his base form is seeing everything through a fog, he can recognize the voice of Goku, thus making him remember all the trauma that happened to him. He was LITERALLY STABBED with a sword as a baby. Once he is in the LSSJ state, he is literally THE LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN, the embodiment of everything that race was doing at its core. How's that stupid?
@@abalagmikoro1975The motivation behind Broly’s rage is what’s stupid. He hates Kakarot because they just so happened to be next to each other after birth and Kakarot was a crybaby before suffering amnesia.
The line "My son, the planet, or me" always kills me. Also once again noticing Kaiser playing with the audio due to using headphones to watch this for once.
I’d like to believe that this broly and goku would’ve been best buddies if it wasn’t for Vegeta saying his name was Kakarot. Edit: also I 100% agree with taka on the motivation of broly hating Goku on how it makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever. I mean it’s barely flimsy if you factor in broly associates being stabbed with goku crying but they’re both not even a Month old and in order for that to work Goku would’ve had to have cried in the film exactly the same way as he did as a baby for broly to know it was the same person which he couldn’t have cause while also being newborns their crib names weren’t visible and even if they were neither of them could read.
I like to think the mans broken finger is because he shook hands with Goku before Chichi could stop it. Hence why it was going to take a miracle for Gohan to get accepted.
It’s a real testament to Kaiser’s editing how I had no idea that he needed to insert characters to any of the shots he did in this movie. It’s like pulling a rabbit out of a hat that doesn’t even exist.
Markiplier as Broly would've been hilarious. No disrespect to remix because he killed it but the idea of Markipler interacting with princess trunks would've actually killed me.
"The Dragon Ball Z fanboy who just wanted to be a part of the crew but not being so made him snap." You were planning on making Broly into Superboy Prime?! Why does that sound like the greatest Dragon Ball movie ever?!
51:30 The funny thing is, I always assumed the safe word was created when they were abducted by Paragus. So the “lost to time” line was funny asf to me cause they were only abducted like a few months prior ☠️😂
I had that experience too the first time I watched, and then it occurred to me that I've had the same safeword for years and that generation to generation, they probably never changed it
As much as I love this version, the American Dub has one of my favorite badass lines ever from Broly. Goku says "Hey what do you say you give us a handicap?", to which Broly repsonds "Is that another word for coffin?" I would have loved to see their take on that line!
Honestly one of the weakest lines when there's SUCH an easy comeback to that. Which of course is that Broly says he'll break their bones. Has all the brutality, makes humorous use of the word choice, easy and simple and smooth. But instead they pick this moment to have Broly skip that so that he can say something kind of awkward and a little tryhard. ...Which makes me wonder if you were making a joke and it went over my head.
I love Trunks' line in this after Broly says "You dirty boy" so much. Just a pure bit of fear and nope. "Goku. Get me off this planet right now. I mean it. Instant transmission."
Yeah, feels very out of character for TFS's version of him and probably for the originals as well. They could have made it work if it were a running gag throughout the series, but to show up in a single scene is just jarring. I'm glad they cut it.
I think it works great BECAUSE it is so out of character for Goku. It makes such a skewed idea of Goku for Pilaf. And Goku being so simple that Pilaf being the first villain he ever met he ends up thinking he's the epitome of evil and going hard on him is funny because Pilaf really is just kind of ineffectual and silly. He's the most harmless villain in the whole series really.
TFS Goku being a literal bully to Pilaf because he still sees him as a threat and himself a child is hilarious and makes total sense. What I find even funnier is the one line that made it in the movie implies this entire dynamic without having to show it.
37:28 "I'm confused, am I being pranked? 'Cause I don't do jokes." I don't know why, but I have ALWAYS been able to hear a cutaway response to this from Cell smugly saying, "Oh prince, you ARE the joke."
@@abbycollins4820 I honestly can't remember a few of them. It's mostly the tertiary characters like Korrin, Turtle, almost every character Scott plays. Playing DBZ Kakarrot and watching Super Hero gives me a bit of whiplash honestly. *ESPECIALLY YOU NAPPA!*
Honestly I love Yajirobe asking Goku to be his best man. Not only is Goku the first friend Yajirobe made from the gang, but Ultimately Goku introduced him to the love of his life. And that's super sweet
I love that Broly is basically the only villain, arguibly the only *character* alongside Mr.Satan , that they barely changed. His personality is so one-note and his motivation is so goddamn stupid that it was alredy pretty funny on its own. And *that* is impressive.
Mr. Satan is actually arguably slightly nicer than his canon counterpart. At the very least, his glory hound personality seems to just be kayfabe, and he only took credit for Cell's defeat because his fans would have torn apart the city if they found out he lost.
@@Degalon You've got it backwards. Z-Broly is a mindless berserker, effectively an edgy, overgrown infant who only serves as a brick wall our heroes can't break through, until they do... because teamwork? Super Broly is a gentle soul who is devoted to the only family his has, an abusive father who has no other method to controlling his son's mutant rage other than electric collar stuck around his neck. Devotion to his father is what leads to his conflict with Goku and Vegeta. Goku's struggle against Broly isn't just a physical one: he notes that Broly lacks the malice of Freeza's forces and thus wants to end the fight peacefully. Broly's determined smile at the end at the prospect of training with Goku speaks volumes of the difference between being forced into conflict by his protective nature/father's revenge plot and actually improving as fighter in his own right. From motive to design, to even backstory, Super Broly is an actual character in the narrative, despite not having too much autonomy in his titular film. But even the little autonomy Super-Broly has is leagues above and *beyond* the autonomy of the screeching infant that is Z-Broly, which speaks for itself to the amount of "character" Z-Broly has. Tldr; Z-Broly is barely a character, and the narrative doesn't really treat him as one. Super-Broly is the crux of his own story.
The old Canadian subtitles were fucking great, the part where Broly is talking to Paragus in the pod was fully written out in an articulated conversation.
When they recorded this, the view count was 34 million or so. In the time between recording this and releasing it yesterday, the Broly Movie accumulated another 1.7 million views. That's.... Insane to think about how quickly the count keeps going up even after all this time.
I will never stop being impressed by how easily Taka can just Turn That On. DBZA’s Cell was one of the best villains ever written, don’t @ me and his performance took it to the next level
@@renatoafonsomaiacarneiro950 It's a reference to the fact that blue checkmarks are basically status checkmarks nowadays for losers and morons as opposed to a signifier that it's the actual person behind the account. If you have a blue checkmark, you're basically paying Elon Musk for the privileges of pretending to be important. It's also mentioned that this are pre-recorded months at a time when the site was still called twitter and not the facsimile of the site that it's currently using
Goku, basically pulling a Batman with the Mobius Chair, once he can instant transmission to torture Pilaf is hilarious to me. It's just so out of left field, and twisted.
The line of “OH MY GOD HE’S SO GODDAMN COOL!!” is still my absolute favorite line from you Lani, it’s probably the reason I started watching DBZA in search of it
I'm so SO glad they stopped to appreciate the "Paragus, you squalid fuck" line. It's low-key one of my favorite Vegeta insults. I use "you squalid fuck" in my real life when something doesn't live up to my expectations lol P.S. I originally thought the line was "Paragus, you squal as fuck" 😅
'It was lost to time..." is easily my favorite movie quote. Also, does anyone know if the safe word "Broccoli" was a nod at Broly's name origin from Toryiama?
For those who don’t know. Conner is also in Unexpectables. Another D&D campaign with people like Zito, Gaijin Goombah, and Edward Bosco also Taka in campaign 1.
This makes me realize something. Broly was made much more tragic in TFS’ take on him. A meek boy who was killed due his trigger-induced evil personality going on a rampage. And the last the heroes think about it is that he’s bothersome and they just want him dead already.
Holy shit, the Yajirobe / Korin scene on the blanket matches DBZ's style so well I had no idea until now that it was original animation. That's incredible.
13:50 Honestly, I respect y'all for both being able to go that dark between the three of you, and then also pulling it back to something that would work better as a video that persists on the internet. It's good to be able to very clearly say "that's too far, funny as shit but too inappropriate," but it's also healthy to be able to joke about that kind of shit in the appropriate company imo.
25:19 now I just have the mental image of Goku’s periodically popping in on the pilaf gang just to make sure they’re not doing anything evil, like no matter what else is going on in his life he will always make time to for them.
Stuff like the Tao and Pilaf scenes really makes me want to see TFS do more early Dragon Ball stuff. I’d love to see their takes on characters like Launch, General Blue, Arale, etc.
The funny thing is the Popo PTSD *makes sense.* Perfect sense. Popo created a dead-eyed *clone* of Kid Goku, equally as strong, equally as powerful. Imagine having to fight yourself, but the other you is just *soulless.* And you have to live with that for the rest of your life...
I can just see them having a scene where boss rabbit is making mochi on the moon has a heart to heart with his henchmen resolving to help people maybe using his abilities to turn ricks into carrots to fight world hunger….. and then roshi blows up the moon
I love how they act like brothers. And Lani & Taka are the younger ones trying to annoy their older brother. Every joke they make you can see their eyes (and glasses) focus on Scott to see his reaction
I find it interesting, but given the outcome im extremely happy it went how it did(though maybe its cause ive literally never seen a markiplier video anyway)
"Paragus you squalid fuck" is a statement that gut-punches me every time, I can't get over how funny it is and it always catches me offguard no matter how many times I hear it.
To be fair, there was no guarantee that Gohan would have defeated Cell. They probably figured that if they were going to die in just a week, they might as well tie the knot while they still have the chance.
If there’s one thing better then watching DBZA for the 50th time, it’s watching the creators watching it and commenting on it. Love the show, love what you do, can’t wait to see more
I don't remember if it was part 1 or part 2 but I had a close friend who was marrying their LGBT partner of nearly ten years, and had also been looking forward to the DBZA Broly special. On the morning of the wedding, I had some time to kill and was looking around RU-vid when I suddenly saw that Broly was up and was floored! I didn't realize it was coming out so soon! So you know I had to check it out. When Trunks delivered the line, "When I woke up to go to a gay wedding, I did NOT expect this," I practically choked on my coffee. That was literally me, watching Broly.

1:08:15 one thing i wish was brought up in buu bits that would've been SO hilarious from Vegeta if he was like "you managed to grab an entire RACE of people dying off on a remote planet, but you couldn't grab your son."
One detail I always found interesting was when Paragus referred to Vegeta's father as the "true king", like despite everything he did to him and Broly, he still recognizes his kingship
@@Phoenix-pm2qr Lmao. Yeah. Future Mai? Sure, that makes some sense. Probably only met Trunks when he was in his 20's and he was as much of a catch as anyone probably could be in that timeline. Mai beibg TECHNICALLY like 70+ (she's 4+ years older than Bulma, from memory: she was at least 20 when Dragon Ball started with Bulma at 16) in that timeline wouldn't change that. But present day Mai? Though, tbf, I do think the only version of Trunks she actually simped over was the one in his 20's, so theres that. Its just that Young Trunks had a crush on her. 😅
