Thanks for sharing. Have some backpacking trips later this year. Wasn't sure how useful my Tenkara rod would be on lakes because of the casting distance. How long is the line and leader you are using?

Just a normal length line, about the length of the plus plus a few feet of Tippett. I will also use a 7m floating line with an indicator at times. Fish are usually cruising the shoreline/shallows if they’re feeding anyway.

@@tenkaraonthetrail Yes they often times do cruise the shallows except the times when they are out of reach. I would welcome the flexibility of getting to about 40 feet out with a Tenkara like rod.

Do you have a recommendation for an ultralight tube for storing rods while backpacking? I just got a Dragontail Kaida for my upcoming JMT thru, and the tube iit comes with is lovely but too heavy

Have you tried casting it with furled line? I’m looking for a new rod and don’t know if I should wait for this one or get the Ragnarok.

I have not used a furled line with the Icewing prototype. It is very soft and I would much prefer a light line with it. The ragnarok is a very different rod and would do better with a furled line.

@joey_w_b either one will do that. I would base your decision on the size of the fish you are targeting.
