@@believeinmatter So clearly you didn't watch the interview. There was no flow. This was --almost-- the worst combination of guests at a round table At several points including the very beginning there was just several seconds of silence. She had to actually make them speak. Left to their own devices Billy Porter would have talked the whole time and everyone else's would have nodded and pretended to laugh.

@craigjones21
@craigjones21 5 лет назад
Yes I think he carries a lot of shame because of the incident but the real shame is that western culture can be so puritanical and judgemental about sexual gratification. If it's between two consenting adults, whether or not funds are exchanged, there should be zero shame in it.

@craigjones21
@craigjones21 5 лет назад
@@mwahhha226 Ok fair enough, that is shameful. But if we refused to enjoy the art of artists and performers who made shameful mistakes on principle I think that would wipe out a ton of great books, movies and art. Of course it's legitimate to feel upset about what he did and refuse to watch his performances on that basis but personally I don't judge people that way because who knows what they were going through. Imagine being a high profile actor with no anonymity to speak of, your private life on showcase 24/7, in a relationship in which you don't feel sexually fulfilled, and your life feels boring and bland. You're desperately trying to maintain appearances of perfect relationship/perfect life for the public meanwhile you're deeply dissatisfied with your life and looking for passionate, skilled sexual intimacy but can't have it at home. Can you tell I can relate to this? I personally wouldn't visit a prostitute due to risk of STDs but I am capable of great passion and sexual skill, but it goes unfulfilled because my wife is not that good in bed. Sucks.

i'm still pissed Richard madden didn't get the nomination for Bodyguard. He portrayed the anxiety, paranoia and hostility of a PTSD sufferer while also being a stoic bodyguard and it was enthralling to watch. I think he was extremely passionate about getting his points across and was one of the few people on the table that really had something to say ya know. When they're all talking about being Romeo, Billy Porter never really says much because he knows the difficulty in getting these leading parts as a gay black man in Hollywood. What they so casually ignore is that while they can land those parts so easily he would have to work 10x as hard to prove that he is worthy of it as much as they are. Which isnt really their fault more on the fault of Hollywood executives

@@brendantaylor3570 Well it doesn't help that Porter goes on about straight people playing gay roles and Grant has played two very definitive gay roles. Firstly, in the Merchant-Ivory movie Maurice (an adaptation of EM Forster's novel) which he was brilliant in and won the Venice Film Festival Best Actor that he shared with James Wilby (seriously, I recommend watching it because not only is it very ahead of its time both movie and the novel it was based on but brilliantly acted by Grant and Wilby) and Jeremy Thorpe who was a politician who put out a hit on his ex-gay lover (also brilliant in that).

damo agun it is brave simply due to how brave the community of lgtbq+ they are representing and for taking the risk of facing backlash due to their heterosexuality.Don’t get me wrong I do think more lgtbq+ actors should be cast however the comment by Billy was not necessary and could be interpreted as somewhat degrading.Some of the actors playing gay roles may also not be straight themselves yet may not be open about their sexuality which is also a factor that should be considered.

Emmys have a rule where if the sixth and seventh placed nominees are within a negligible percentage of each other to basically be the same, then they both get nominations. If Richard was 7th place, for example, the gap between whoever scored 6th (let's be real, it was probably Kit or Milo) and him was distant enough to not warrant a seventh nominee. Emmy rules are weird that way.

This year's Emmy's had a lot of undeserving Game of Thrones nominations .. Apparently repeating the phrases 'You're muh queen' and 'I don't want it' is more deserving of a nomination than playing the incredibly complex David Budd

Why does Hugh Grant not have a talk show? He has a commanding personality with a dry, clever, humorous wit. He has an appeal that draws the public toward him and makes them pause and listen to what he has to say. His looks and his blue eyes also help the man out!
@rumblefish9
@rumblefish9 3 года назад
He may play the bumbling Englishman character well but in real life, Hugh is eloquent and incredibly intelligent (was a scholar at Oxford and graduated with honors). A hero in real life too as he was one of the people who exposed the extent of the UK phone-hacking scandal. Grant wired himself and recorded a former journalist who admitted that "editors had ordered journalists to engage in illegal phone tapping and had done so with the full knowledge of senior British politicians."

FINALLY. If Beale Street Could Talk was the most beautifully shot movie I've seen in a while, it was art. I looooove Pose. Sam didn't talk much...

Funny you say that. I was walking home from work today thinking about moonlight and how it was art of the highest quality. To me its the closest thing to an actual oil painting from a true master come to life. Clearly Barry Jenkins is a genius. Moonlight is the best movie I've seen in years. I haven't seen Beale street yet but it's high on my list of my must see.

@@elephantello1518 Yes moonlight was gorgeous. But the beginning of Beale Street really grabs your attention I almost cried for how gorgeous it was, it also helped that it was a love story. Like both stories are pretty rough but you get distracted by the color and how beautiful everything is. Definitely watch it.

I think Richard's portrayal of John Reid in Rocketman was excellent, and it's a hard character to play, he's almost universally despised (he abused Elton John, who is a very beloved figure). I'm not sure if he's straight or not, but I think he did a great job of playing up the villain part more than the gay part. Like, he played Reid as a man who happened to be gay, but who was first and foremost an absolute prick, which seemed very poignant.

Thank you so much for this excellent program. I am always weary and suspicious of interviews, and even if I find them entertaining, I do not expect too much of them, but this was an intelligent and informative round table conversation, and somehow I felt I actually got to know and unerstand these actors a little bit. They gave us some rare honest insights, I believe it was not acting but real, and it was not just trying to act the interviewee and get through another hated interview that you have to do for your job. I really enjoyed Lacey in the way she conducted this interview and talk, she always included everybody; nobody could feel excluded or left out, she kept asking interesting questions from them, and really listened, and thumbs up for the actors they all listened, and I really felt included in some sense. I felt a little bit as if I were there and part of, it quietly sitting and enjoying these people simply talk and express trheir ideas and their thoughts and feelings about things that really mattered to them. It was one of the best interviews I have ever heard I really enjoyed it, even though half of the actors, nay, more than half, I did not even know. I only knew Diego Luna and Hugh Grant the rest of them were simply strangers. I still was interested in all of them, and their style of addressing questions, and expressing their ideas, I was struck by Billy Porter's, he was so expressive, massive, in vocalising things, it was nearly like acting out what he was trying to put accross. It can be tiresome for listening to him for a long time, but it was excting for these shorter periods of times when he told us about deep things. I really appreciated all that they shared with us. And I think I kinda feel like B. Porter, in a way, because I was massively extrovert earlier in my life, and now I am more like him, situational extrovert, someone who is quite fine on her own and turning inside. I think it comes with age too. I wish the guys would read my thoughts here, it would be so nice to talk with them about this program, but I know it will not happen, actors do not read, nor presenters read, youtube comments, much less answer them. Just one more thought, I actually believe Hugh Grant I do believe he is a nasty piece of a man, but I mean no harm, no offense, I just think that it is only the films that make him this romantic guiless, shy and sweet and loveble guy, he is very different from that. I mean, he has some of these things in him, I would not be surprised if he were somewhat in line with some of those characteristics, but probably not all. I think he is just very English, and contrary to popular notions, English are, well, very well capable of being nasty and rude, I have lived there, trust me I know. They can be charming and lovely but also racists and prejudiced and hating 'the bloody foreigners', who kinda took over their country. Still, I love the Englsih sense of humour and I love their awkwardness and lots of bits about them. Thank you ever so much for uploading this video and I am looking out for more with intersting people. Plus, I am going to look up some of these people, nay, all of them, that I do not know; from R. Madden, to Sam Rockwell. Sorry, guys that I do not know you and I have never seen any films with you. I watch a lot of films and know at least thousand actros, but, well, not all. It would be impossible. Thanks again.
