Strycova has a legitimate gripe with Venus. It's not about rather the calls were right or wrong. It's the time Venus is taking before she challenges. She sees her ball is going out, and then decides to challenge. A challenge has to be immediate, which is what umpires tell players before every match. Eva Asderaki, the umpire, should know this, and I've seen her numerous times tell players they've waited too long to challenge and the call stands.
you know what would really be uplifting?! if the opponent spoke up & said yes, it was an incorrect call. that would be inspiring & good sportsmanship. i saw that once at a professional soccer game.
You're absolutely right -- and yet, that's what I find appealing about sports. Human umpires/referees make mistakes. But they're usually damn good. And the sport kind of lives off of that.
GuessMyName u dont have any idea about instrumentation electronics. If a sensor is needed to be done in that way, it is way more complicated than you can even imagine. Afterall a sensor is a sensor, it dont have brain. You cant just simply tell the sensor or type in the algorithms to identify how different a ball impact the ground than that of foot steps and a lot more. Even this hawkeye is not absolutely right all the time. Sometimes hawkeye can have a huge deflated values as well
With how bad those calls were I doubt Cornet wasted her challenges. This challenges seemed necessary for every samn point. Those calls were horribly bad.
If a linesman calls a very close ball in when it's just out, that's not a bad call. If he calls it out when it's just barely in, that IS a bad call, because you are suppose to give the benefit of the doubt to the player who hit the ball. So all of these calls were bad calls, since each was an IN ball called OUT. Remember, there were no electronic calls until 2005, so bad calls happened all the time, and intimidating linesmen was part of the game.
Strycova is right twice there, in the two last situations Venus challenged too late, she already hit the ball, saw it went out and then challenged, that is not allowed. A challenge that shouldn't have been allowed isn't justified when the challenger is on the right end because that is what you are suggesting. When you want to challenge you have to do it instantly.
YOU LOVE THE WRONG THING THEN. THE BEST UMPIRES CAN VERBALIZE AND WIN WITH THAT. A BLANK LOOK IS EASY AND DUMB. ANYONE CAN DO THAT. AND IT RARELY LEADS TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
Yeah, it gets worse when you hear her attacking Sharapova. It's like come on, when you are one of the greatest competitors the sport has ever seen, have millions of fans around the world, and have won the Career Grand Slam and an Olympic Medal, then come talk to me about your complaints about other players.
@私の名前は。 Actually, she isn't. Assuming you are talking about her looks, she is OK, but super plain and boring. So many other girls on the tour are way hotter.
Well I agree unlimited challenges could be annoying as shown some times the line judges miss calls so much that there should be unlimited I rather see the right calls the someone lose because the calls are wrong.
at 1:54 Venus should have been denied the challenge. The umpire fucked up and Strycova got screwed. Even at 2:43 it was a late challenge from Venus. Bad umpiring.
+Leo Light But she was correct every time, so you think Venus should've wrongfully lost those points because she took 2 extra seconds to say "challenge"?
The rule stipulates that players are supposed to challenge immediately. But most of them don't. It's an old story. Umpires should be way stricter on enforcing the hawk-eye rule.
on the first one, venus hits the ball looks down at the mark then challlenges! its not late and these things sometimes take more than 1 second!!! get over it. Sometimes one can clearly see it out but one is concentrating on hitting the ball cleanly. just fuck off! i'm not a williams fan either but i hate stupidity!
she challenged after she missed her ball after playing it, rules state if you play an out ball then its in play... if u really think its out DON'T play it
About Barbora-Venus incident, despite the text commentary written against Barbora, it must be said that she is in the right. The ultimate truth of whether the ball is in or out is irrelevant - because if you don't challenge it you will never know. The timing of the challenge is important. Venus in the 2nd challenge did it after she hit the ball and was called out. So the ball continued to be in play. She should stop the point right there if she has a dispute and ask for a challenge. So if the ball is out, she will get the point, if it is in, the point will be replayed or whatever will be the umpire's. So Barbora has every right to be upset at the series of late challenges by Williams and actually the umpire should reject those challenges. Not sure why they were accepted.
+Srinivas duvvuri Yeah, but the point is that the line calls were so horrendous that Venus shouldn't have had to challenge anyway. Those calls should never have been made. Frankly, the line judges and umpire in that match should all have had to go through further training after that match.
The first challenge, Venus got the attention of the umpire. She was in conversation with the umpire. She's within her right to challenge there. Players have been doing that since the system was introduced. The second point, the point is stopped because Venus hit the ball out. So she could challenge there, because the point has been stopped. No other shot was played. Had Barbora hit another shot and Venus hit that one back, she would not be able to challenge. On the third one, Venus was looking at the mark once she returned the ball and, again, the point was dead. No other shot was played. She's allowed to challenge. People look at the marks on the court before challenging all the time. AND Venus interrupted the score being called, meaning that Asderaki wasn't paying attention either and Venus had to get her to look in her direction. Why should she be denied a challenge if the umpire was looking the other way?
Honestly Venus was challenging way too late. Djokovic once got a ball back looked at it and wanted to challenge but the referee said it is too late even though he took 3 seconds after hitting the ball back and Venus took like 5 and the referee even started to say the score.
What do you mean poor Barbora? The only reason she was in the position to complain about those challenges was because there were several wrong calls that benefited her. I always do think it's comical when players complain about a "late" challenge (especially one that comes after a shot that kills the point) because to them they'd rather win the match by having a bad call go their way then to have the true result revealed.
This umpire has a history of bad calls and bad judgment. In the Williams / Strycova match, whether the calls were right or wrong, she should never allowed a LATE challenge. One of them was so late, and Venua was still thinking about it, then asked the umpire if she could challenge, and she was allowed!!!
I will risk asking a stupid question. I'm not that knowledgeable about Tennis so here goes. If they can tell electronically where a ball lands after a challenge, Why do we need umpires at all? If we can inseminate human error by just doing it electronically? Sorry for my ignorance ahead of time.
If umpire's eye balling is correct, it takes quicker than having to wait for the digital replay. And umpire has other tasks besides observing. It's what I know from cricket.
Okay those balls were clearly out though. Venus sees that the ball was clearly out and is confused as to why no lines person called the ball out. At the end of the day the ball is STILL out.
this is amazing. if you argue with an ump in baseball for more than 15sec ur tossed out of the game. in tennis, you can argue til the cows come home. :P
Wow very interesting I didn’t realize that there is psychological warfare involved. It can some times be used to gain the upper hand on your opponent. Very interesting very interesting. Wow
The editor of this video failed sooooo hard at staying neutral. To be honest, the suggestive comments during the video totally ruined it to me. "bitches", "princess", "what if Serena said that?".... As someone that makes compilation videos, it's your moral obligation to stay neutral. At least, that's my opinion. Other than that, some poor judgements and calls were made in the video.
I love to watch a women losing her freaking mind in anger and despair... And just for the record that is an actual quote that i learned from my sisters and my mother too, i realized what it meant after my childhood.
Those very much were way too late challenges by Venus. It doesn't matter whether or not the call was right. That isn't the issue. A player can't wait that long and then decide to challenge.
Can someone please explain what this challenge is? I don’t get it? Is the empire supposed to say out before the ball hits the ground or what exactly are the players getting mad?
You have to challenge a dubious call immediately - you don't have the luxury of, "oh, let me think about this one for a minute." But it is the call of the umpire if he/she will allow a player to challenge after waiting for some time.
Serena has a long history and is justifiably criticised. I've heard her scream "what the f--k" without getting penalised, not to mention all her other behaviour issues.
Exactly. Because she can never dare get upset before people talk about behavior issues and the like. If you are being cheated, I do not blame you for challenging a call or asking for clarification. Serena does have a history of enduring bad calls and lousy officiating!
OMG there are other female tennis players who are drama queens, I thought Serena Williams was the only one by the way people made a big deal out of it.
An outright example of emotional displays NOT done by Serena Williams. The media would, along with non-Williams' fans have you believe she is the only one... SMH!
@@katskat5743 yes great but to masculine looking lol. 😐 I can't even be jealous I'm sorry lol. But if she catches the attention of people of course she will get the most heat. Use common sense. Besidds that. No doubt in my mind she takes some form of enhancement drugs. Based on her history. I wouldnt be surprised. So great? Not so much. The cost of being a winner at her level is not worth it 😂
The moral should be, you don't have to decide to use challenge or not...someone out from the match use the technology when it is required to allow the best possible competition
Question is: why are they getting the calls wrong? Not to mention consistently. Do they do anything towards the empires or linesmen as in liability statistics or less jobs due to lack of credibility?
