Imagine stepping up the line down 2 with advancing to the championship on your shoulders alone. And you splash all 3 to win the game. Unimaginable clutchness. That guy is a professional
Had it been called all game I have no problem with that call. However, the refs let everything like that go all game. To have a game end on a call like that is ridiculous.
I win every arguement Do not challenge Grow up. Refs aren't perfect. But this was not controversial-- it was as clear a foul as you will ever see, should you open your eyes.
What I like about Guy is he was mad he didn't make it, regardless of the bump. Every shooter knows, that little bump is gonna impact the shot, no doubt. That's a foul.
As has UVA, but with the sting of last year's anomaly in the first round digging at their hearts all year long. Someone has to lose every game, and as a UVA fan, I was swallowing that bitter pill when it looked like we were going down. Guy's three to pull it closer was a small ray of hope, as was the one he missed when he got "bodied" on his release. Tough loss for either team who'd come out with the L in this one.
I know what "choking" is like. It's happened to me in baseball and shooting pool more times than I like to remember. ...This guy - Kyle Guy - under wicked heavy pressure is so cool, calm and collected doesn't repeatedly bounce and nervously fool around with the ball before shooting like many do at the free throw line; almost nonchalantly he drops one...then two, tying the game, then three and it's over. …Just like it’s another day at the office ;-) …Well done, Mr. Indiana BB!
@@lobster6238 That's easy to think of when you're not in the moment. These guys play college ball I mean in the heat of then moment any one of them could mess up.
There's nothing controversial about this part of the game. It was clearly a foul, you have to let the shooter land plus he hit him midair. Show the missed double dribble for the real controversial ending Edit: Lmao they changed the title from Controversial to Dramatic
Exactly, Michael Li....Guy (the shooter) went straight up and was bumped mid air. He didn't "lean into" the defender, no matter what some idiot commentator/in-game network official says....the numerous replays and angles prove this. If anything, the Auburn defender is a dumbass for crowding him and sliding into him and getting so close that he put himself into a position to draw the foul and have the call made against him.
teja2900 As far as I know, the ball doesn’t have to be released for it to be a shooting foul as long as the player is confirmed to be in the act of shooting the ball. Guy clearly was going for a shot and not a pass. It’s like those swing arm fouls in the NBA where players go to the line by initiating contact with defenders who are too close. They go to the line almost every time.
4 years later, Guy burying all three of those free throws is still one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in a college game. I think you can count on two hands the number of NBA players who would have gone 3/3 in that spot.
I'm definitely not a fan of either school but I guess the only thing I'm left wondering is, where's the controversy? In NCAA basketball you can't touch an airborne shooter.. Period. The big story should be how the kid was able to knock down 3 free throws in a row considering how big those free throws were..
@6ROVE 5IDE and?? Well yeah I only watched the video. And I commented on several media outlets saying THAT call was the controversial one. So what's your point?
man u are so stupid the point so an idiot like you can understand if the double dribble was called which was so damn clear stevie wonder saw it then the rest would have never happened because auburn would have the ball with 3 or 4 seconds at half court with 2 point lead game over stupid so listen what the man said duh
So heartbreaking for Auburn after dominating most of this game. Congrats to Virginia on the win. Congrats to Auburn on a spectacular season, reaching the final four.
This Virginia team was so clutch!! Down in the last few seconds against Purdue, Auburn, and Texas Tech, but found a way to win all those games on clutch shooting. That on top of all the adversity they overcame from losing to a 16 seed the year before made this one of the most memorable championship runs I've ever seen in college basketball
Definitely the right call but I think people that question it need to know that even if he didn't bump him (which by itself was a foul) if the guy is in your landing space, which the Auburn guy was, that alone is a foul. It was almost like two fouls in one so to say there was no foul is not knowing basketball. It wasn't even close. What's ironic is he may have made it without a bump. just had that feeling cause when you get bumped you normally shoot short and he was about 4" too short.
@unityprepify Ty Jerome was fouled right before he double-dribbled and the leg kick by Kyle Guy was with the left leg but the Auburn player ran into Guy's right leg.
Screw the whole "its where he landed" bs D guy made serious lower body contact while ball was still in hand/act of shooting. That throws off every shot
Poor ending all around (unless you're a VA fan). Auburn was stupid to allow a 3 point attempt while leading 61-57. Refs missed a double dribble with 3 seconds left. Auburn gave up another 3-point attempt and then fouled the shooter. But props to Guy for hitting all three FTs.
When people complain about a double dribble call that they didn't see in real time but don't acknowledge a team scored 6 points in the final 8 seconds to win a game....
Go to FULL Game HD with 3 seconds..The Auburn player actually grabs him before he picks the ball back up to dribble again..It's not just me that saw this, someone else did too.Auburn was trying to foul to slow down penetration to the other side...And it was a clear grab too, nothing to gripe about and Auburn was trying to foul....When you see it its way before he dribbles again after he picks the ball up..In fact, most aren't even acknowledging it as controversial any more..It's clear as day..
@@travisdonaldstanley6420 Hell, they had no pressure in this game anyway. Only reason they made it past Purdue was a wild tip on the last rebound in regulation.
Objective Viewer "To my mind, the double dribble no-call is a perfect example of the "no harm, no foul" principle. If you watch the play, it's clear that Jerome used both hands to corral the ball after he bobbled it off his ankle. Technically a double dribble. But if you watch the WHOLE play, you'll see 2 fouls by the Auburn player that were also no calls. And this is where the "no harm, no foul" principle comes in. The first was a trivial touch foul that contributed to Jerome bobbling the ball. Absolutely correct to let them play on - as long as there is no harm. And it didn't look like there was any harm because Jerome turned to reestablish his dribble. But then the 2nd foul was committed. Not a touch foul, and not trivial. The Auburn guy grabbed Jerome's hand, preventing Jerome from reestablishing his dribble with 1 hand. IF you call the double dribble after not calling the hand grab, you have violated the "no harm, no foul" principle because the hand grab caused harm. So the only correct call on the double dribble was also a no call - otherwise you have rewarded harm by the Auburn player. As it turns out, Auburn might have been better off if the hand grab had been called a foul. But who knows?"
Auburn has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of! They took my Cats out, but I was pulling for them as the representative for the SEC. You guys had an outstanding season and a fantastic tournament run! Hold your heads high!
BecauseICan This stupid fucking loyalty to the SEC still exists? Can you name any other sport where morons walk around saying I’m rooting for the Baltimore Orioles because they’re in the same division as my Yankees… I’m rooting for the Washington Redskins because they’re in the same division as the Cowboys… Seriously what the fuck? Those people in your same division and conference are supposed to be your fucking rivals not people you cheer for because they’re in the same group.
Watch Auburn’s first round game. They were also up by 2 in the final seconds against NMS. They also fouled a 3 attempt. Except NM missed 2 of 3 FTs for the loss. Virginia didn’t let that luck happen again
I feel so bad for Auburn when the refs missed the double dribble caued by the Auburn defender intentionally fouling and grabbing Jerome's jersey causing him to dribble off his foot
@@wickedbabayaga it's so strange everyone only wants to talk about the double dribble and not mention the fact he was intentionally fouled right before that
At first, I thought Auburn had been screwed. But yeah, Virginia won this championship fair and square. Congratulations to the Cavaliers Good luck to Auburn down the road. Hope y’all get one someday.
I heard this game while driving through all places Auburn and Montgomery AL. I was all Auburn tigers at the time. But now that I see the actual video.... it was a legitimate call. It was a foul. And it affected the shot. Without that contact he stood a very good chance of squaring up and making it. Virginia deserves to be in the finals.
And that is why they always say-never....... Ever foul a 3 point shooter and that too in a crunch situation like this. And props to the guy who knocked all of em down... Thats some pressure to absorb👍
I’m not an Auburn but I wanted them to win it. I don’t know why but i was hoping for a Cinderella. Anyway congrats on you final four Auburn, that was awesome ❤️
I’m not even an auburn fan but my heart broke that day till this day I still wished auburn went through. After my team lost I was cheering on auburn the whole tournament cause they were the “underdogs” but they certainly didn’t look like underdogs this tournament they played crazy up until this point
Are we just going to ignore that “guy” hits all those three free throws DAMN ..I bet LEBRON will miss 1 free throw for sure if he’s in that situation..
@@MannyManhattanMusic no it wasnt if the double dribble is called the last three point from corner would have never been attempted ref was right there and it was clearly a double dribble and would have ended the game auburn got cheated clearly and if anyone says it wasnt a double dribble is a dumbass
having to make a 3 pointer with 1 second left is one thing. there is movement, adrenaline. But to have all this time to trickle 3 points in one after another, deathly slow, zero adrenaline, zero momentum.....wow!!! awesome!!!!
This is one of the best finishes ever. So stop whining about the foul that was clearly a foul. As for the double-dribble, Ty Jerome was fouled before he double-dribbled and it wasn't called.
In the full broadcast of this game they interview Kyle Guy after and he says he blacked out during the free throws. You’d never be able to tell - what clutch shots!
agreed man wish wee could have pulled the dub but we had a great season and we did a bit of it without our best player hate to say we lost but as both of us stated we did every last bit for Okeke and hope he will be back and even better next year
the double dribble was caused from Jerome bouncing the ball of his heal and picking it up to dribble again Bryce Brown tried to draw a foul after that happened by pulling Jerome's jersey
Jones Ingram look again... he grabbed him as the ball came out.... it as a double dribble, but didn’t get called because a foul happened and they swallowed the whistle. Tough loss... but Auburn received huge calls when Uva was up 10.... Jerome called for a foul, got fouled it’s no call under the rim, then called for his 4th running back up the court. NCAA likes good games....Uva just made a few big plays.
Bugsthefarmer DripZZ I’m not an auburn fan, but I believed in them when they were ranked eighth in the country. When they started losing games and became unranked I still believed in them and always thought of them as the team that was ranked eighth. I was shocked when they were a 5 seed I thought they should of been a 3.
auburn lost on a fundamental mental mistake period. "don't foul the 3 point shooter in the final seconds." (don't get within 1 foot of opponents body how bout) at that point it was still theirs to win, they beat themselves.
@@lesjohnson8650 Double dribble is one of the easiest calls to make in basketball. Paying attention and having at least a few brain cells is all you need to see it.
@@carolinewall3678 well knothead no one is complaining about that the double dribble clear in front of the ref wasnt called thats the complaint simple as this auburn got cheated anyone that says it wasnt a double dribble is stupid
They don't want to hear that because they want to continue to mock UVA for that choke last year. The Cavs are a team of destiny and it's obvious now. UVA = The Last Laughers
Even the damn referee on the broadcast explained the jump from A to B, he didn't jump straight up, he jumped into Kyle Guy. It's a foul, no controversy. The other one where they thought there was a double dribble, the guy was fouling him before that so... bark all you want Virginia has clutched out another squeaker. No, they're not my team either.
So a player is allowed to hit other people's legs when they are shooting the ball? That's utter bs. I understand not taking a stupid foul but this foul has to be called. But hey I guess we cam decide any game on a penalty so the saints can't complain because you can't decide the game on a foul.
One thing not to overlook regardless of the events that got us there, I'm not sure in a pressure situation like that I've seen someone step up to the line and knock down 3 so calmly. That kid has stones.
I'm an Auburn fan through and through but I must say...THOSE WERE 3 CLUTCH FREE THROWS. Those were the only free throws he shot the entire game. Ice in his veins 🥶
ive watched all of auburns game during march madness. im pretty sure they won 1-2 of their games from free throw with the refs help. Go and check out their freethrows per games. they shoot twice as much as their opponents
Auburn fans you all are talking out of emotion and not the fact y’all simply blew it in the final seconds. Fact is ... UVA had its largest lead at 10 and y’all came back and led by 5 points 61-57 in the final seconds... fact is guy made a clutch three clean to put it to within 1 point 60-61... fact is before this “double dribble” auburn intentionally fouled guy who can pick up the ball to continue the possession when a defender intentionally gives contact.. that’s not a double dribble. Fact is despite this “missed call” y’all still had the lead and you fouled guy no question and he drilled three free throws. Much respect to auburn but this was y’alls game to lose, and you all blew it because of poor execution and experience. Pure and simple. What UVA did in 8 seconds is being overshadowed by emotional fans who don’t know the rules and don’t recognize their team still had the lead before the fouls in the final seconds.
David Johnson the argument is that if they had actually called the double dribble it would have been Auburn’s ball and Virginia would have had no attempt at a 3.
Jason Mires you still were up two and y’all missed a critical freethrow. Regardless , you all lost this game because one team kept playing and the other folded. Period.
