"A NBA player that makes $12M, could cover the whole WNBA". But the NBA is already covering the whole WNBA for all its life, the last 26 years and counting.
@@jackbombay1423 but yeah totally agree, and these WNBA players aren't dumb they know their league loses money every year and they only exist because the NBA is paying for everything, so the entitlement they feel is crazy.
@@countfloydschillerhorrorth2090 That was the stupidest comment I’ve ever seen and read in RU-vid history. He is a terrible person outside the court and already has allegations for hitting women. Much less on the court.
WNBA plays 36 games. NBA: 82. The WNBA loses 10-12 million a year. Only four teams are financially solvent. They don't sell tickets. They don't sell merch. They don't sell themselves.
@@APMesina08 Yeah, 42 bajillion NBA players doing ads over 20 years for the WNBA hasn't worked, but that's your answer. How about... and I'm just spit balling here... make the league less about black female divas, girl power, and general wokeness. And while you're at it - just like golf, volleyball, etc. - move the rims down to 9 feet so they look at least somewhat coordinated. Otherwise, this game is just painful to observe. To be clear, the Top 50 Boys HS teams in the country would DOMINATE the WNBA. Truth hurts.
there is none you cannot improve it as women age they get worse imagine being slower than a 15 year old boy and getting worse as you get to 30 while men get better lol
@@KrolKazliterally has been my argument every time this topic comes up. Speed up the game, wnba player move like turtles across the full size court. Lowering the hoop would improve their abysmal fg% from getting rim stuffed and gives the average wnba player to dunk which yes would definitely bring excitement to the game. If 13 yr olds in middle school can dunk I wanna see professionals dunk
When draymond began speaking in that tone, she became really quiet. I never lol'd so hard in life.. I knew instantly draymond was gonna go off. Huge respect to draymond for saying what every other man in that room was thinking.
People would not show up until the NBA game starts. It's like a Fight Card. Depending on who else is fighting, most people start to show up when the Main Event is about to start or Co Main Event. No body wants to see the WNBA bro. It's weak. Women don't even want to watch it
It’s socialism lol. You take money from people who generate revenue (NBA), and you redistribute it to those who don’t generate revenue and in this case those who are actually losing money (wnba). It never works. It has not been working for the past 26 years but by all means, continue doing it lol. IT WILL NEVER WORK.
Lol LeBron saying "Yep, Yep" but if the guy asked him "What part of the game did you notice?" LeBron's answer would be something like "Uhh, man I don't know there was so many great moments from that game"
@@princemarth150 how will funneling them even more money each year help address the actually problem with the wnba? Which is revenue and sales, people don’t watch because it’s not an exiting brand of basketball how is giving them more money going to help that?
@@princemarth150the issue is believing you deserve more when you’re already not doing good at your job. It’d be the equivalent of being a chef, no1 liking your food; and proceeding to ask your boss for a raise…. Draymond said the same stupid shit about fixing the all Star game. As if paying them more money is going to make them play defense in an all star game 😂😂
@@princemarth150 how does more money improve women's basketball? If I didn't improve myself or my skills and asked my boss for more money I'd be fired
@@danielcarlson8137 paying players more doesn't immediately make them better at the game. What it DOES do is create an incentive for more young women to focus on honing their basketball skills. If more young women want to train to become basketball players, then the game will become more competitive at every level. If we pay players more now, we will see more and better talent develop over time. Who wants to commit their life to getting good at a game where they might be able to make 50k for 10 years before they're out of a job?
The average WNBA salary for the 2023 season is about $147,000. They just moved the schedule length from 36 games to 40 games. That’s still over $3,600 per game. Many people don’t make that in a month. They play games every 2-4 days. The MINIMUM salary is around $75k, not $50k. They’re complaining about being overpaid if you look at the fact that the league wouldn’t survive without the NBA’s funding.
I just want to point out that playing the actual games is probably less than 10% of a professional athlete's job. They don't just "play games every 2-4 days."
@@cryptaku3404 for that, you’re 100% correct. Would you agree, though, that they are being compensated more for their play on the court than anything else? Checks from these contracts in both leagues are calculated on a game-by-game basis. They aren’t calculating how many press appearances you make, how many times you do community work. How could you even negotiate the value of that? If the conversation is pay, then it’s limited to what they’re paid for.
@@cryptaku3404 No, sorry, the professional athletes of the WNBA do not do all that other shit that normally gets people paid more. Playing the games is more than half of their job. They don't go on promotional tours, talk to media, do this and that. They train and they play and that's why no one hears about them and they don't get paid.
@@cryptaku3404 they’re still getting paid to do what they love. It beats working in a factory slowly killing ur body away. They act like being a professional athlete is so hard but working other jobs can be more stressful on the body.
"Maybe one night y'all don't go to the casino" ....the nerve of people these days and even worse most of the dudes weren't even gonna say anything...Glad Draymond had some balls, even if the rest didn't.
This was lowkey a reach. Draymond was clearing the air from his perspective, but Lisa is a well known legend that has nothing but respect towards the NBA…she made a joke about the situation regarding the NBA…and Draymond was subtly saying that there are more people that need to support the WNBA aside from just the NBA.
Draymond is a dawg. Period. People hate him because he keeps it real. Even when the league disagrees because of the underline model minority situation - but really - they make millions playing a game and they have to mind their words every time. If these guys could speak their minds more often, the true fan would like it better. The fake fan will find it annoying and "woke".
These days most people hate people who are real and have a voice of their OWN. It’s sad honestly. We need to make that the norm. People just need to stop being afraid of what others think.
what could help the WNBA in my opinion... is LOWER the GODDAMN RIM from 10 feet to ~9 Feet.... if it's good enough to make the ball size smaller by a half inch for the WNBA, then it's good enough to shorten the rim just a touch to make it easier for the average female player to dunk.
She was asked what could be done to improve the women's game. Her immediate answer was for players to get paid more. She wanted to say that. Her answer could have been anything else yet she chose "pay us more" as her answer. She knows exactly what side she's on. She isn't being forced to ssy anything.
"Take a donation around the NBA" What she means is she wants a portion of the men's salary to go to the WNBA players. Which is ludicrous. Although the WNBA is partially owned by the NBA and subsidizes it each year, they are still 2 different organizations. It's like Yahoo employees asking Google employees to give up part of their salary. Why does she feel entitled to their salary?
@@mrp2301 i think she knows that's answer is ridiculous. I think she knows that more there's no way she can just ask for more money. But, if she said something more realistic and said that the number they get now is more than they deserve, she'll gonna lose her job. That's why i said se say what she has to say.
The promotion part of the conversation is what always gets me. One of the biggest complaints from WNBA players is that the NBA doesn't promote them like they should, therefore they CAN'T turn a profit...But the WNBA draft was 11 days ago and you go to all of the WNBA players social media and very few of them even bother to mention it.
Comparing salaries between two completely different businesses, one with multi billion dollar revenue and one with multi million dollar losses, and calling that a pay gap is crazy 😂 That's like me working as a cashier at Target and saying there's a pay gap between me and Google engineers
Those LSU girls just said in a interview that they are happy in college and are in no rush to get to the league…you can’t name a male college hooper that actually wants to stay in college that doesn’t have too
@@Jearbearjenkins it aint about the fans moron. Rivalries are made from the teams battling. History you right tho. WNBA doesnt even have much history to be fair. I used to be a huge hater of the wnba but now I see some women now that are actually amazing to watch. I think in 15 years or so there will be a league full of talent and THEN people will watch.
Lol even if it was the only game of the day people would still not watch it. The main issues are being avoided, because hard realities would destroy Lisa
It sucks because basketball is such a size and explosion based sport. Without dunking it's much harder to sell. Female athletes like FloJo, Marion Jones, Simone Biles, Serena Williams etc can make a ton of money, but just not in basketball. But the WNBA continues to be propped up like a zombie by the NBA, making it look like female athletes in general aren't worth watching, which is a bad impression to give to everyone.
I’m not even gonna lie. I’m genuine surprised WNBA games aren’t free on TV like the other regular channels. Ik damn well I’m not buying a cable plan or a league pass to watch them.
@@EGarrett01 I don’t like the dunking excuse. There’s players in the nba right now who don’t even dunk and are still hella entertaining to watch. Whether it comes to dunking, Shooting, passing, handling the ball, etc it’s just better in the NBA😂
@@MannyParadisee Yes the players are faster in general, but female athletes have proven to be very marketable in a lot of other sports where they compete relative to each other without having a rim they can't reach. Like track & field, tennis, gymnastics etc.
@@carloszugzwang6267nah I could see that being true with Jordan the whole “republicans buy shoes too.” Lebron just tweets whatever is on his mind at any given moment with a bunch of emojis like a 12 y/o girl. He is not smart and it shows.
Professional athletes make the money they do because of the revenue they generate. That is why WNBA players bitching about money don’t make sense as the league is propped up by the NBA and doesn’t make any money. As far as public servants making more money that may be true but if your talking millions the moneys not there for that unless you trying to pay a 90% tax rate or something.
The WNBA started off wrong. They started the league in NBA cities and a lot of those initial cities didn't have a history of supporting womens college basketball. Now, they've lost teams and only have 12. There are a lot of extremely talented players that are getting cut even after being drafted high. They should take the next few years and look at areas around the country where they can expand to. They should get the total number of teams to 20 then adjust the revenue percentage that the players receive. Areas that could be ripe for expansion are Va. Beach, Greensboro NC, the Knoxville Tn. area, The Bay area of Cali, Orlando, Richmond Va., and Houston.
The NBA donates about $83,000 of each players income, there isn't much of a percentage that they can adjust. They are way over paid based on the income they generate.
I retired from the Railroad. In my 20's I worked on the tracks laying steel. It was work, a lot of hard work. So, according to this woman, I should have been paid more than a million dollars a year.
Reminds me of my shitty co workers. They said they weren’t aboutta work hard cause they weren’t getting paid enough. I said, yknow, boss man would pay you more if you worked harder, making the company more money then saying “boss I’ve done good. Pay me more or I’ll go get paid more somewhere else.”
I actual agree with her on the point that the women's game is evolving. The reason it has been such low quality for so long is because the pool of women actually pursuing a career in basketball has been so minuscule for so long. I think that is changing significantly in recent years, and we're starting to see a lot more really good talents emerging. I doubt the WNBA will ever be near the level of the NBA, but it wouldnt surprise me to see it grow in popularity pretty significantly over the next 5-10 years
You are right that more talent is emerging and that the league ight grow....but you're vastly overestimating how much. The league doesn't even turn a profit......it will never be a 4th as popular as the NBA
It has improved but it is still third rate in comparison, they have had 26 years to grow in popularity, why should the NBA continue to give to this charity? We know damn well that if the WNBA, in a fantasy world, generated more money than the NBA they would not give one cent to them, their attitude would be, "you must earn it on your own."
For those comments saying that women should watch thw WNBA, I am a woman who does and its actually really hard to get access to it. The only games that are shown on TV are the Sunday afternoon games on ABC and occasionally NBA tv games, otherwise you have to have premium fir CBS sports network or Amazon prime. It's all messed up. Plus their marketing is terrible. You won't know when the all-star is until days before compared to months before for the NBA.
This is going to sound anti-basketball but i think if the wnba was played on a half court with one basket it would be soo much more competitive. Forget lowering the rim, change the shot clock and let some action develop for once. I think it would genuinely push the game into new territory, and provide a big enough change from nba so that it doesn’t feel like your watching a straight up inferior product. Arena football and xfl understand this, you cant simply offer the same product people are accustomed to getting at a lower level, you have to stand out.
Honestly i like that idea with a 9.5 rim. 4 on 4 wnba id actually tune in. At least watch a game or two to find out if i dont like it. Too bad they would rather go broke pridefully than be humble and make money
I honestly believe Gianna Bryant would’ve saved the WNBA. R.I.P …. Who wouldn’t watch a wnba game featuring Kobe Bryant’s daughter. She was on pace to be a great player
She was 13. A lot can happen in 8 or 9 years as far as how much you develop. It's far from a guarantee that she becomes a top college player, much less a star in the WNBA who "saves the league." Even if everything works out and she does become a star, is she going to make people want to watch WNBA games she's not playing in?
I’m glad he spoke up because as an organization, they are extremely ungrateful. They can’t even afford to stand on their own 2 feet yet all they do is criticize the group of people that are helping them. Let’s be real if they really wanted equality, that entire league would not exist.
Funny how the free market doesn't apply when it comes to women. Remember any high school boys state championship basketball team would mop the floor with these ladies.
Dude asked "what can WNBA do better" she said wnba is perfect and flipped the question to "what could WNBA have more". As long as people just hear what they wanna hear, no point in having a discussion
The ncaa tournament this year proved what people have been saying all along, when the games are entertaining, people will watch, and more money will follow. I enjoyed watching the ladies play this year, if the game continues to get more enjoyable it will get bigger.. no donations needed
Draymond spoke the truth about the WNBA.. if the revenue isn’t there with viewers and sponsors then the salaries wouldn’t be there either .. if not for the NBA then the women’s league would’ve been cancelled years ago .
They were mad at Luka because he congratulated arike o. for winning rookie of the year, but she didn't win. It was Napheesa Collier. I don't blame Luka though. Somebody gave him her jersey to take a picture and posted it without getting his or her facts straight.
