I have the SL5 as well and test rode the SLR 7 at the shop before they built mine. For a first time road bike, it was hard to justify the extra $5k! I might be having second thoughts! :)

Will definitely keep you in mind while I'm looking for a bike. Thinking of something with the 105 groupset, aluminum frame and carbon fork. If you guys have anything on clearance from 2018/19 new or slightly used for around 1k, please let me know :)

Creaky bottom brackets and squeaky brakes happen when you put some miles in on any bike. What is the maintenance history of your bike? Did you get it from us? If so, or if you are local we are happy to take a look at it to help remedy the creaks and squeaks.

Summit Bicycles Hi guys, I ordered as a Project One through my local dealer in Lomita, Ca. Brand new, out of the box, the bottom bracket squeaked. A chain off spin test gave a very poor result: wouldn't make one full rotation even if spun very hard. Frame bb shell clearly has some kind of misalignment and bearing to cup interference out of spec. I called Trek right away. They very much denied the problem. Took many calls to get them to agree to look at the bike. My problem is not with my local dealer. It is with Trek. If it weren't for liability law, I think Trek would not honor any warranty claim. As for Sram disc, they need attention every 3 or 4 months. It amounts to clean rebalance pistons, especially the rear brakes catch so much dirt. It is fair to call it a nuisance, not a problem per se. Thanks very much for your reply, Steve Flor

Is your local shop working with you to solve the issue? Has Trek agreed to do anything yet? Summit Bicycles Hi guys, After a drawn out back-and-forth, Trek DID agree to look at the bike (at Waterloo). They would NOT make a commitment to replace the frame. Only to repair - didn't explain how they would affect a repair. I was disgusted by their response. I never sent it back. Just kept riding.... creaks now all the time. I will buy a new carbon road bike. It will have theaded bottom bracket and rim brakes. Thanks again for your interest. Best regards, Steve

You are not alone! $10k bike and Trek wants to cut costs by not putting in a threaded bb. Nope, I’ll just stick to custom steel. Funny thing is that some of their cheaper (and slightly heavier) frames come with T47.

My wife rides an SL5 after sitting behind a computer all day long. Pull the trigger. You wont be sorry. The Domane is great for long rides, not too upright and not too bent, its just right.

Summit Bicycles that was an SL6 so not by any means the lightest, however despite the weight I have come to really like this bike, it’s all well and good smashing around the countryside on a 6 kilo Bianchi Specialissima but it’s nice to have the comfort from isospeed and wide tyres! I’m even tempted to buy an SLR7 for a general use summer bike, I’ve really come to like disc brakes too, even though I have always said they were a solution to a problem that didn’t exist, at 54 kilos I don’t have trouble getting Campagnolo rim brakes to stop me, but the silky smooth operation of disc brakes with better modulation and control is hard to ignore 👍

@@Bikes-guitars At 54kg most braking problems don't exist at all. I am 100kg so the braking issues that I, and other people in and around my weight class, experience are far different than yours. The SLR 7 is the one I ride and can't say enough good things about. I would echo your statement about the isospeed and wide tires. Glad to hear your enjoying your Domane!

Never I own both, a 2020 Domane SL7 eTap 12 sp and a 2014 Madone 4.7. The Domane is heavy as hell. My Madone is butter on the road and acceleration is great. The only upgtade in my Madone is a Bontrager RXL wheelset which is a stock Bontrager wheelset with DT Swiss internal hubs, carbon seat post, and nice saddle My Domane has all the whisles and bells and rides like a Cadillac but it weights like a Cadillac too. I'm planning to sell the Domane and getting a Madone SL6. I'll sacrify electronic shifting because eTap is just too new full of bugs, I'll keep Ultegra mech which s a gem that runs flawless and incredible serviceable

The 2021 Trek Domane SLR 6 is $6799. It comes with Bontrager carbon wheels and a complete Shimano Ultegra 8000 drivetrain & brakes. A stock Domane SLR frame set is $3299. A custom painted frame set starts off at $4299. Obviously if custom paint isn't valuable to you then don't spend the money. @@summitbicycles Sorry, I meant to say a SL 6 (not an SLR6) complete bike costs $3,800. While it's one step down in the frame, you get the whole dam bike. Whereas $4,200 for just a custom painted SLR frame. That's stupid.

Yes we completely agree the Domane SL6 is an amazing value for the money but like anything else in life there is usually something nicer for more money. The Toyota Camry is a fantastic car and the reality is most people don’t need more car than than for their use but it doesn’t stop Ferrari from making a car that offers more for a whole lot more money. Buy what fits your budget.

Hey Brian sorry you think we don't know how to put together a high end bike or that we didn't torque things down to spec. These videos should be taken into context. It is just us assembling a customers bikes for the visual entertainment for others. The fact that this video is just shy of 14 minutes long should infer that not all the steps were included in the clip.

He didn't demonstrate that here, and so we're left to believe that he tore it back down to assemble it for keeps at a later time? You've either violated my efficiency OCD, or my 'built to absolute perfection' OCD. Either way...you owe me a cup of coffee. Just the cheap kind. At the end of the day it simply doesn't matter as long as that customer was thrilled with his ride!!

It’s an endurance bike. They’re not meant to be light like The Emonda.

Sometimes a lighter frame is not necessarily a better choice for a bit heavier rider. You don't want too much side to side flex when you really crank it.
