Great video. I am 2 months away from construction of my sim. Now need to get those gym Matt’s. Keep up the awesome work. And thanks for the inspiration.
One of the most thorough build walkthrus I’ve come across - even stuff that really has nothing to do with the simulator - which is great. Thanks for this!!!
Thanks Brian, I appreciate the feedback. Just moved house, so a new build is coming in the future. Only thing stopping me is the usual time and money. Please subscribe and like the video.
I have watched countless Golf SIM videos and keep coming back to yours. Your detail and obvious knowledge on the subject has been most helpful for my DIY build. Mine will be slightly smaller at 12'x9' (4:3) but a little deeper at a 12' hitting point. Using the same screen and hitting mat (P2P) but going with a Uneekor QED to avoid the LH / RH changes. Thanks so much for your great videos! A friend from Ontario Canada
Thanks for the comment McNabb Crew! I'm glad the video is helping so many people. Good to hear from some home country folks, I too am from Canada but currently living in sunny QLD. Please like and subscribe. I've recently moved into a new home, so when time and money permits I'm going to start a whole new simulator build. Don't forget to watch PART 2 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-al4F0s7tWMA.html
@@sklebeck eh, fellow Canadian! Can't wait for your next SIM build. I've watched your videos many times. Waiting to hear back from P2P on my quote for the QED, Fiberbuilt hitting mat and SQ TO impact screen. Already have secured the uni strut to start my frame build. Now working on turf, projector, side curtains, etc. Any preference on E6 vs TGC?
Very impressing presentation!! Amazing professional way of description with lot of patience, went into minute details. I would definitely recommend my younger brother to watch this video and build one like this for his own skill development and to experience this kind of technology.
thanks for the comment Andrew. I have a new simulator build coming next year. It will be a multi part series from start to finish. New building and new setup.
Insane setup. Many good tips! I almost thought tou were joking when you showed your computer built for the purpose, than again later when you showed off your shaft machines. Thanks for the video, well done.
Thanks for sharing such a detailed 'how to'. All this info will come in very handy when I build my own next year, after we move to the Australian Sunshine State :)
@@sklebeck :) Thanks Shaun. I was kinda hoping you would respond when you saw the Sunshine Coast reference. Would really appreciate that. Oh, and subscribed already :)
@@rufussthoo4083 sound good, I'm just in the middle of packing my home up. Did a last minute house sale. Moving into my new house mid April, so it will be awhile before I rebuild the sim. I haven't been posting RU-vid videos lately due to the house sale and new purchase. Man its so sad tearing down the simulator bay, but all worth it in the end with a slight upgrade.
Thanks Tony, be sure to watch part 2. It’s a more in depth look at the frame. Call it a follow up to questions. Please subscribe if you haven’t already. I have new videos every week
Am in the UK and am planning my studio...your content is extremely helpful at all levels - tech, materials/‘manufacturers used and the practical side of construction...you give invaluable up from advice around details that most would never think of! No doubt I will be asking more questions when we get closer to starting...thank you and congrats!!
Great vid mate. I'm building a house at the moment and this will help me plan my bay. Mine will be able to be put away, so i can also do some carpentry, but there are plenty of great ideas here and lots of good information. Being from Oz, I'll certainly be purchasing the Aussie products you mentioned
This has got to be one of the best set ups I've seen. Doing my research now - and I'm still keen on finding a way to have the impact screen capable of being rolled up. But this set up is top notch no doubt. You seem like a very detailed guy!

@@sklebeck Thanks - I've actually contacted them about 30 mins ago - but their site already says there are way overbooked with orders (good for them). I was thinking of using the raw screen being offered by GungHo Golf. But the retractable Par2pro screen is definitely nice!
Nice setup! love it.................my favorite though........"the longevity AND how long it will last" LOL ... great setup tho. Hopefully have a setup like that soon.
Such a great video and full of super usefull details. I was not planning on building one yet, but I have a large attic that is waiting for a cool destination and it might just have found one :o). Thanks a lot!
Hi Nick, Just curious if you saw part 2 of this video series? If not I encourage you to watch part 2, as it provides more detail on the screen frame build. Thanks #sakicawaits, I have another detailed video coming soon on how to build the impact screen. I did touch on it here, but a few requests have been made on more detail around the frame build and design. Please subscribe
Very informative. Thank you!!! I've just stumbled upon your channel and this is the first video I've watched. I love your build. Far more hardware there than I'll ever be needing haha I'll be going for the same screen, putting/standing/hitting surfaces though... looks awesome. Moving home (finally) tomorrow and planning my build. Made a rookie mistake and already purchased a Flightscope X2 launch monitor... whilst it's an excellent piece of kit with all the club and ball data I want, I don't think I'm actually gonna have the space I need to use it as a Sim 🤦♂️ would love the Quad but not looking to spend that kind of money, so on the look out for a GC2 +HMT.
Glad you like the video Yanis. Please have a look at the channel, there are quite a few videos that may interest you. Foresight Sports does sell pre-owned and certified GC2's on their website, so keep an eye open for that as they do sell quickly. The X2 is a good product, but in my opinion the wrong product for an indoor simulator, especially if the primary use for the launch monitor is indoor. Again thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for this great and the best video I have ever seen. I was actually searching for the shop I can buy these stuff in Canada because I live here in Calgary. I may ask you questions as I want install Golf simulation at my home. Thanks again
@Shahid Khan glad I could help. I have recently purchased a new home and look forward to sharing my new simulator build in the future. Only one problem slowing the project "time and money". Unfortunately all my simulator hardware is sitting in a box, waiting for the structure to be built. Good to hear from a local Calgary neighbour. I'm located in Australia, originally from Saskatchewan. Please like and subscribe and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Great video, and it's clear you've put incredible effort into planning your bay out and building it. Taking notes for my own bay, and figuring out how to build it out bit by bit. Also, great use of the Streamdeck - easy to configure macros on a keyboard, but then you have to remember which of the macro keys does what!
@@sklebeck out of interest, did you start with the GCQuad as your first launch monitor, or did you have another before that? Obviously the Quad (or any midrange and up launch monitor) is the major expense of any sim setup - for good reason, naturally.
@@BatcatCA fortunately I was able to test about 6 launch monitors prior to purchasing. I knew what LM I wanted, but I tested to figure out if there was a lower price point LM that would do the trick. I leased a TM4 for a short period of time. The first thing I bought was a Quad, long before I had a mat or a SIM bay. By starting with the launch monitor I was able to use it at the local driving ranges whenever I wanted. From there I built a building for my sim bay, then hit into a net from a cheap mat, I just kept upgrading over time. What I was looking for out of a launch monitor, was basically a coach in a box. I was purely looking for game improvement. I moved to Aus leaving all my hobbies behind and decided to take up golf for the first time only five years ago. My problem with hobbies, is I want to be fundamentally good instantly. I had so much to learn and so much ground to catch-up on.
@@sklebeck okay, this is solid reasoning I completely understand and agree with. I'll have to just suck it up and pay for the Quad then, and slowly build out the rest! I treat my hobbies exactly the same, and I'm not a fan of buying similar categories of product twice - buy once, cry once etc. When I move to Canada later this year, I'm also not going to have the freedom to practice outside for most of the year, so an LM/sim is a necessity.
The 36mm EVA floor tiles from PaoLeisure were quoted to me $65.50 + GST each (not $30). Are you sure the reference you gave is correct ? I ended up buying a similar product from a different seller, 40mm EVA interlocking mats for $36 per panel 1m x 1m Very nice setup by the way. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Cheers
What a fantastic job you did with your Golf Lab! Wow! Curious what is the dimensions of the putting surface, it looks like it's about 8' deep from screen to the Fiber built mat?? Also, would you mind sharing the sizing of your metal frame? I'd like to do something just like it ... just not as wide. Oh and very curious about the projector you chose (did you consider short throw?). For your high ceilings, Placement way back is better with a high ceiling like yours, but for ours at 8'8", to avoid shadows, think we need to be above the hitter or in front of the hitter. it's not easy finding a projector with an aspect of 1.6 ratio (1920 x 1200) and a "short throw" Thanksl Jon
Thanks for the comments Jon, the putting surface is 14' 9" wide and 8' 10" to the front of the Fiber Built mat. What a great set up! My company just bought out foresight golf and I can get a pretty good discount. I can't wait to get one! I just don't know if gchawk is just as good as the gcquad? I don't know the difference. Thanks for the video. It helps everyone who is considering on getting a sim!
The hawk won't give you all the club data that the quad delivers. Other than that big feature the hawk is great if you play a lot of sim golf with both left and right handed golfers since it mounts to the ceiling of the sim bay. There is plenty of good reading material on the FS website for more detail. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Thank you very much - a dream setup for sure 🙂 Impressive presentation and professional explanations with lot of interesting detail / links. I learned a lot here...My budget wouldn't allow for this (wifey 🙂), but halfways is a long way too... I was wondering how you incorporate putting into the sim - both room, data and software?
Amazing sim man…I’m in the process of installing a sim in my basement. I really like your frame for the screen…do you have blueprints for it? If not, could you do a video of the frame from up close to show other people how to build the same frame set up. Thanks and love the man cave!
What a great looking set! I have a 7x4 Fiberbuilt mat that I would like to incorporate gym mat with putting turf like yours. How easy or difficult was it to cut the gym mat and turf to fit the Fiberbuilt mat?
so simple to cut out the gym mats. Each mat took about two full minutes to cut with a sharp box cutter blade extended all the way out. A few swipes were required because of the thickness of the mat. I did use a straight edge to follow until the first pass was started. Very simple task that anyone can do. Please subscribe and like the video.
Excellent video. I am in the process of setting up my Quad simulator. Yours are a warm light. What wattage are the lights you are using for the spotlights? Any US GYM mats you would suggest that are the same as your tee box?
Great set up and thanks for all the valuable information. My only critique is that you should change the title of your video. I don't think your set up falls under what most people would consider to be 'affordable'.
Fantastic video. Really appreciate all your thorough explanations. How do you find the transition between the Fiberbuilt mat and the artificial turf when putting? Is there much of a bump when the ball goes over the edge of the rubber base?
Hey Justin, you'll notice on my game play videos the putts roll very smooth without issue. If there was any concern with the putting roll I definitely would have fixed the problem. Key is to have the turf tucked up level and close the the fiber built mat.
I've scrolled through and not read every single comment, but have you answered how much this entire setup runs? I just checked on just the GCQuad and it's $11,000 so I'm guessing I need at least a $15-20k budget minimum to get a sim at this level? Great video, thanks.
I did list all the prices for the products in the video description. The items I listed are pieces I believe people would be interested in. As far as my setup, its a bit extreme and completely not necessary so its hard to put a price on what I wanted vs what I needed. If you have a room or a building already, you should aim for $8500 without the launch monitor. Of course you can do things cheaper in different areas, but that's what I would budget for. If I added everything I did to my SIM the price is three times higher then the budget you suggested.
This is the perfect video that I needed. I have been doing a bunch of research on different premade sims from carl's golf, Rain or shine etc and I find your setup to be ideal. I had the hardest time trying to figure out the mat, but even more so how to make the turf around the hitting mat be flush. When it comes to details, I am extremely detailed. I am currently having a 12 x 16 shed built for this exact reason. Can you tell me the size of your shed that was built? I like the amount of room that you have behind the bay. I was also told that it was important to have the hitting area at least 14 feet away from the screen but you mention you really only need 10 feet from the hitting area to the screen which makes me even more excited! Lastly, would you mind me asking if you know where I could get a used GC Quad or Trackman? I have also had my eye on Uneekor's new Eye XO system which looks really nice! Thank you so much for making this video! INCREDIBLE!!
Thanks for watching Ferdinand. My shed is a 19.8' x 19.8' x 9.11' (6mx6mx3m). The 3 meters of height is to the eves and the centre pitch of the shed is 3.5m in height. Basically I bought a shed kit similar to the link below. I added insulation and air conditioning, all electrical was added based on my needs. Shed Kit: www.bestsheds.com.au/garage/double-garages/ As far as the launch monitor Foresight Sports usually has certified pre-owed GCQuads for sale on their website in the launch monitor section. Since the pandemic they might not be that easy to come by due to the back log of orders, but keep checking or call my contact Aaron he may have a pre-owed unit for you. Tell him Shaun Klebeck referred you. Aaron Hardy (ahardy@foresightsports.ca) My opinion on the Trackman suggestion would be to purchase the Quad or Uneekor's Eye XO if you plan on using the system in the SIM bay as its primary use. Trackman is a great option if you plan to use it primarily outdoors. I'm not a fan of radar launch monitor's indoors, it kind of defeats the purpose. Radar tracking for 10 feet (enough said hey?) Also 10 feet is plenty from the ball position to screen, I would not suggest less then that, but 10' is lots. More is better for a radar system such as trackman. Personally even if I could have more distance from ball to screen I wouldn't use it in my scenario, I would rather have a big couch behind the golfer. Hope this helps
@@sklebeck Thanks so much Shaun. I'll check it out. I agree and am looking forward to my build. Still working on a few permits which allow me to get the shed build, which should be approved by end of Feb. I'll keep you posted!

Hello. I am sorry that I did not see this video a long time ago. You did an excellent job with the simulator build and the video. We are about to build a simulator in our basement. I have one question. On the overhang with the acoustic panels, did you just use adhesive to stick them up there? What is behind the panels that aloud you to do that? Thanks so much!
Hi -Thank you for all the rich information, very clear and very well explained. I was wondering could you tell me why you went with the Quad launch monitor. And secondly do you use the s/w that comes with the Quad, or do you use a different software. And can you tell me why you chose the Quad? Thank you in advance
Hi John, I use all the software that Foresight Sports has available for the GCQuad, including the 3rd party software as well. The FSS software is primarily used for golf improvement, and the 3rd party SW is typically used for online play. I chose the GCQuad because it is literally the best indoor launch monitor available on the market, in terms of accuracy, teachings options, and software.
Awesome video. Wife gave me permission to turn our 25x25 detached garage into a man cave 🎉 I really want a 16x9 but it seems excessive. 14ft is my realistic size but I want to keep 16:9 as we are going to use it as a movie room too. Thoughts? Thank you 👍
my advice is to setup your projector and pick the size of screen that suits the projector throw. Quality picture is key. The bigger the screen the more cost of the impact screen. Its a shame when you have to garbage a large screen in perfect condition on the edges, but the centre is worn out.
Thanks for such a great breakdown of your simulator set up. On your putting green, it looks like you just folded that down to close off the putting mat, did you adhere the putting green to the gym mat in any fashion or is it just laid on there?
Loved watching the video - loved the listing of equipment in the notes. Could you help me understand the connections between the monitors and screens? You have three screens, how are all those connected ? Are they going through an AV receiver? Are they going to the PC? Any adapters? Thanks!
the three monitors are connected directly to the PC video card using a HDMI to Display port adapter. I have three adapters for three hdmi cables. The Windows PC setting are setup the same as a multi monitor setup in the office.
awesome video. I had the exact same idea about the mma mats to match up with the fiberbuilt which i also have. Glad you brought it to life before i tried it!! Anyway i didnt hear anything about speakers for when watching movies. Any chance you can mention what you have? Thanks.
@@heathpeters9554 thanks for the comment, the soundbar is located on the top of the overhang of my screen. The area covered in foam I hit flop shots into. Out of site of of mind. Please subscribe and like the video
Love the setup but 1 huge question. Why do you get new clubs every year??? Literally no need what so ever to even get new irons every 5-10 years. Once you find a shaft and head you don't need anything else unless your swing changes drastically. If pros never hd sponsors they would be using same setup for years cause they know what the club does.
Thanks for the video! Love your setup! Question: Do you feel like your spotlights over the hitting area cause the projector lighting to wash out at all? It looks like your projector has to shine through your spots. I am setting up my simulator and this is a quandary for me..
Hey mate I’m a bit late to the party from when you made the vid but just wondering did you just weld the 50sq tubing or did you buy fittings to join it up? Cheers
Love the video! Thanks for the in depth descriptions. Do you think the premium impact screen you have is comparable or better than the screens that other vendors like Carl's Place uses? Curious on how many different premium screens there really are available and where they are manufactured?
great video. what other hitting mats did you try, but not like? I was looking at the "holy grail hitting strip", then adding regular turf around it which I would use as my standing spot and putting area. My thought is that the HG strip is a lot less $$ and can be easily replaced as wear and tear adds up. Any thoughts on this? Any mats you tried but would stay away from now?
thanks for the comment Brendan. I have tried many different hitting mats. I explain the pros and cons to a number of mats I've used in the comments below. The important part on mat selection is of course the quality but also how it ties into your arena.
WOW. Great video. How is putting when playing courses? I checked the 4 x 9 hitting mat from Fiberbuiltgolf and it looks like there would be a 1" gap from hitting mat to artificial turf. Yours looks tight.
please watch some of the course play videos on my channel to see how the putting works. in my opinion its perfect with no issues. the turf is tight up against the Fiber Built mat and there is a small gap transitioning from the FB to the turf. It does not effect the ball roll.
Great set up. I’m starting my simulator build and will copy what you’re done. How/where did you purchase the gym mats. I don’t see a way to order through the link you provided. I messaged the company, but haven’t received a response yet. Thanks
your best bet is to look in the comments of this video. I've provide multiple providers/suppliers of the gym mats for people all over the world. In most cases the price was better as well. Please subscribe and like the video and thanks for the comment
Hard to say what everything together cost. Most of the item in my sim aren't required for the average person, so I can't compare it to a sim in a box. However if I guessed, I would say the price is very similar between the two setups if we just compared the individual components. There would also be a massive difference in quality, meaning the sim in a box is designed and mass produced to keep the costs low. Mine will last a life time

Great set up and informative video. I am building a golf room and this video has provided some inspiration. I also use a GCquad and noticed you have your club data on a second monitor at the same time the course/range is displayed on your impact screen. My club data will display for 3 seconds after the shot and then reverts back to the range/course. How did you get the club data displayed on the second monitor while the range/course is on the impact screen? I am also curious about your camera set up for swing analysis. What are you using for cameras? Also how far is your projector mounted from the screen? Thanks for the great content!
