Dreams (PS4) is the long awaited creation engine from Media Molecule, the folks behind Little Big Planet. How does this work? Is it good? Let's talk. Subscribe for more: / gameranxtv
Dreams is one of the easily accessible tool for potential content creators who were either shy to make something or were not provided with proper tools... I m really looking forward to see what giant this game can become...
I just started playing it last night and I love it. I've played all three LittleBigPlanets and to me this is the logical end point of the original mantra of Play, Create, Share that LBP first pioneered. I've enjoyed my time with the game so far and am looking forward to more. I always loved the community in LBP and the amazing things they could make and with Dreams it's so endless that I think we'll see a lot of people get into game design because they're given the tools to do so.
Jason dp Yes and no. If someone decides to create a level like in Mario Maker, then yes. But it‘s up to the players to create the functions and designs to make stuff like that. It‘s not directly there, but people can make it, if they really want to. That‘s the thing, everything‘s possible when people make it.
*Do you want to buy games like cyberpunk, watch dogs, doom eternal and several other future releases, but can't afford them. Just buy dreams and make them in Dreams* 😂😅
I think you mean creators are in for it once betheseda realizes people are copying their creations. Theres already an option to report for copyright in dreams.
This game looks so refreshing. I realized my library from this generation consists of mostly AAA fps games that are draining, toxic and overdone by this point. I don't have a PS4 but I wish I did now
Dreams is brilliant indeed, but man, the fact your library is about AAA FPS is entirely on you. There are hundreds of amazing indie games on PS4. Ask my library :)
There's a guy that is making a Avatar: the last airbender game in dream, and it looks super cool (search for making my own avatar game or something like that, i forgot his yt channel name), that shows the potencial of this game and all the things creative people can make
playing dreams is like going down the rabbit hole into wonderland, you never know what you're gonna get. people make some absolutely bonkers levels and there is just soo much variety it's insane.
I love dreams. It’s the best outlet ever. When I was young I was always doodling anything in my mind. I never thought I would eventually have a tool as expressive as this. It’s amazing. I met the best people through dreams too. Get it everyone
I am absolutely amazed and intrigued by Dreams (I haven’t played it yet unfortunately) as I was with Little Big Planet on the PS3. Definitely on my must buy list.
Like their other game, Little big planet, they made the entire story of little big planet with the tools they give you to create your own levels which Is something I love about Media Molecule
The story mode of this game is one of the most mature, emotional and inspiring pieces of entertainment ever. It's so good in writing and overall spectacle about our insecurities.
Like he mentioned it takes time to make a game. That’s why I decided that characters are my thingy ! It’s just fun to remix already made characters or make a character from scratch and turn it into something solid.
If you're new to dreams try not to get overwhelmed, remember you don't have to make a "game" Dreams hardly even suggests you should make a game. The way I see it there are two reasonable approaches: 1. You can start small, a pebble a plant, a little melody, a random shape and color that comes to mind. Then throw it into the dreamiverse and watch it get added to something and snowball into something beautiful. Or 2: you could start combining the things in the dreamiverse into beautiful galleries or a completely new synthesis of sights sounds and feelings. As you grow more comfortable with the tools more and more will become possible, I really hope more people notice this game, it's amazing.
For anyone who still doesn't know what Dreams is.. it's basicially an engine in which you can create anything you can possibly imagine with very small limitation.. most of the time it's your own imagniation. So you can create your own games, films, art, music & anything in between and beyond or you can play the stuff that others made and there are some indie worthy titles already after 1 year.. a few people aim for making triple A games! Not a single one should miss out on this masterpiece, especially when you are creative =) I do make videos about Dreams if you would like to learn more about it!
Nice vid. I appreciate you accepting the learning curve rather than trashing it. (You know, sometimes these vids can get pretty opinionated.) This game seems like a really open ended tool unlike a lot of others. I'm just guessing but I bet the learning curve is similar to that of 3D modeling/rendering software.
Considering what you can do with stuff like fortnite creative and minecraft command blocks, dreams is basically limitless. I just really hope it gets a large following, cause a "game" like this is nothing without creative people pouring their heart and soul into a project.
Personally. I’m Basically the same as you. I got dreams back in April and now the first time ever I made something. Just a sword though. Thankfully for these types of games like dreams and LBP, the creators want and need people to play their levels to feel like they were worth making. I couldn’t create a single thing for a year and yet I’ve been having a blast enjoying others creations.
Because this is a sponsored hype video? Someone only playing one day talking about long term views of the game and obviously overpraised the available minigames (play the temple jnr and the 3rd person DS like game and you will see that no sane person would like to have them full game lengths). Dreams is a great concept though but I doubt this will be huge at the end of the PS4 lifecycle but Dreams 2 on PS5 with much improved toolsets will probably be a legendary game creation machine
Right. Like as soon as he said he'd played it for only a day, i could tell it was going to be a dumb video, but I still waited to watch the whole thing before submitting this comment.
Game is only $40 too. Definitely worth the price. I have had so much fun just dream surfing and going into user created things with very little idea what I was getting into and being blown away.
I know we've all waited a long time for this game - but how neat is it that it released now that the PS5 is on it's way and the PS4 is slowly starting to come to an end? What I mean is, this is such a groundbreaking title and one that shows just what the PS4 is capable of, it's so fitting to have it release now
People need to see (or play) the single player campaing of this game (its called Art'sDream). Its entirely made with Dreams tools, and showcases what can be done. It makes you say "oh... so... I can make literally ANYTHING". Dreams is a surprisingly strong tool. Im thinking on designing my dream house, so I can navigate inside it, check how the sun gets inside and stuff.
I don't tend to get excited for games nowadays, but since knowing it released Ive been looking up videos of it in recent days. I'm very impressed, certain creative people will bring this very far
Let us hope that people will not stop bringing this further, that additional features and benefits come of it and that it'll be capable of ps5 backwards compatibility
If Sony want Dreams to become as huge as something like Minecraft, they're going to have to release it on more systems. Sony have been incredibly protective of their exclusives in the past, so I sadly don't think this game will ever come to other systems and will never get the immense recognition it deserves.
Give this a year and just see how amazing it will become. All the patches, updates, DLC added on and the 12 months of time for some super creative developers out there.. I can not wait! There will be games that fix existing games and movies, but my fingers are crossed for someone to do Game of Thrones S8 please haha.
(cries in Labo VR) Actually, this looks pretty good, and a lot better than the Labo VR Toybox. ...but like the other guy, this looks like one of the few examples of why a mouse, touchscreen, and/or keyboard could be more useful in this kind of situation.
its just as little big planet with better editor choices lbp at a point in time was way head of its time... this game is cool need more games like this game its still Cool
I absolutely LOVE this ... I haven't bought it yet but I will definitely... I see all the different videos which are made from all the absolutely amazing creations...it's literally unbelievable what all the people come up with ... Does anyone know if there are size limitations for maps or projects? I mean other than you r hard drive ? Like in far cry 5 editor or doom 4 snapmap where you only can build so much until a limit is reached ...
I played about 3 hours of tutorials and was like "just let me make my game!" I finally got to where I can start making it, got totally lost, back to tutorials for me, still I'm 90% sure I won't be able to make my game how I want.
Adan Rayner I felt like that too until I seen how in depth some people make their games, there’s not a lot that isn’t possible and being able to include any number of scenes (levels) in one dream makes it so that you could make like a RPG with with as much content as you want. The hardest part is figuring out how on earth you’re suppose to make these ideas come to life but there’s loads of tutorials on RU-vid for complicated designs
The move controllers are a fucking nightmare. anyone who's used a VR or has moved anything in reality will realize it's fucked. you tilt right, it tilts left, you tilt up it tilts down. I can't find anything in the options to remedy this shit and it really ruined any expectations I had for creating in this game
I'm currently developing an open world parkour game in dreams, I'm in love with being able to finnally make my idea that I've had for years withought needing to know code or have a degree
Thats as well what was holding me back for sooo long. I have a degree in engineering but know almost nothing about coding but the basics... i have followed some yt tutorials on Unity but i didn't come far enough to call my project a game
@@part9952 I work with unity and unreal and while I'm decent and prefer level design this engine really is perfect ever for people who aren't new dev stuff I just hope it gets way more popular
The potential this game has really showcased what Sony did well this generation, they allowed Dreams media Molecule 5 years and numerous iterations before this game was finally released. The marketing, however? Not so good
gamingconsolesguy I’m thinking if this is available to play on PS5, a console with higher specs more power, imagine the things people will be able to make. Imagine if they ported it to Xbox and PC, a accessible game making platform where anyone can create something regardless of hardware.
it's a dip you're toes, hand hold beginner asset building tool isn't up to par with a legit engine to it's a game to make things for others to play it's a mini maker or fiddler's playground to make a thing for others to play within you're thing or recreate a thing reminiscent of something you're only limited to is our imagination & how far you can go until you stop
@@mr.unfunny9368 Roblox is good, they just choose to only promote and push games that will be able to generate money for Roblox. There are some true gems out there that simply never get exposure because it doesn't benefit Roblox directly. Also they completely got rid of the in-depth search function which allowed people to find games that they want to play, further powering Roblox into promoting what they want you to play.
One of the single most important/significant pieces of software ever created. Generations of new developers will get their starts here. It is the greatest weapon in Sony's arsenal.
It would be cool if people could make a Kickstarter for the creators inside of the dream game to make the ideal game that we the players want, like mods. (for example, a Batman style Mario kart) Or if somehow the creatives can get some money for their creativity or something, so new game developer hopefuls make can make a living like through youtube for example. Don't get me wrong, Free is awesome, but I would never put in hours and hours of perfecting my level or game if I need to still work my 9-5.
@@ngadhon6328 - I guarantee you that this stuff will be happening before long, if it hasn't already. This is the gateway for a plethora of new people to be able to create and develop games in the easiest and most accessible platform ever created.
@@StevenJenkinsIV lol just came to mind when I saw the bat mobile. It could be like different cars with characters each having their own unique abilities. Similar to that sonic game I guess. Bat mobile. Bat bike. Joker clown car. Harley sexy convertible. Future batman tesla
Omg this “game” has changed my life. I’ve always wanted to create my own video games since I was a little kid and Dreams has open the door for people like me. Thank you MM.
Male Ivy what I’m confused about is why he would say that, like no shit you have to learn and study. “Gotta study how to make games before just trying them out” no not at all, you try it out and see if the software makes sense to you. Just like with anything. The Dreams engine has made way more sense than Unreal.
Dreams should be bundled with the PS5 as the official "developer tools for consumers" It would be a great way to give consumers more of a sense of control over their hardware purchase, while also keeping things walled off enough to protect Sony's proprietary tech secrets. Perhaps some day Sony could even let consumers export a dream into a standalone executable that could be sold on the Playstation Store (probably with some kind of "app review and approval" process) (although I'm of the personal opinion that every piece of hardware should be open to personal development off-the-shelf; i.e. every PS4/5 should have a developer kit mode by default)
That has been talked about with the possibility of creative licensing so creators own their own stuff as long as it isn't breaching copyright and another IP, with the ability to 3D print and own and use your own designs, also their could be a possibility of putting your games onto PlayStation Network/Store or Mobile or PC in the future at some point
@@fryncyaryorvjink2140 Computers used to be that way; they booted directly into BASIC, basically saying, "Come on, let's make something." The original Mac came with Hypercard, upon which the classic game Myst was built. Now we look at something like an iPhone (as an obvious example) which cannot be developed for without also buying a laptop and also doing a lot of research into the tools necessary.
@@ChristopherDrum the closest I ever had to such a thing was a ti-83+ calculator, it was fun but I couldn't do anything graphically, though I think I made a line move across the screen once. I got a windows 8 laptop a few years ago and damn, you can't do anything with it, won't even play old games. I've downloaded blender and coding programs but I could never learn them and they took forever to open
Was playing a horror game last night (voice acting was a bit iffy) but the atmosphere was amazing, then I played a platformer about a puppy then a cat girl with air blast gloves, ending the night with playing a wipeout inspired racing game... just imagine how far this game will go in a year, once people know how to optimize and have more experience. Credits: Alright cat girl one is “Anastasia and the Note Takers” The horror game is “Beyond the Nightmare” The dog one “Dog’s run” Finally the racing one is “SlidEout 3019”
waffuru once I get home ill check my recently liked dreams and edit my main comment. Alright cat girl one is “Anastasia and the Note Takers” The horror game is “Beyond the Nightmare” The dog one “Dog’s run” Finally the racing one is “SlidEout 3019”
You should try “Just another natural disaster “ not joking around the best godzilla-ish game going about, it’s cartoony but the atomic breath is the best atomic breath you’ll ever see on a kaiju game
@@stay_coolXD don't worry the list includes most fps multiplayer where you waste your time repeating the same ting in every round. overwatch is included tho it has good gameplay mechanics
@@twistedtick well off not all fps are bad, doom and rainbow6 are good because they are unique, but most of the other fps games are just copy-paste games and they have toxic community .
This game was completely SOLD OUT in my area (Washington d.c. metropolitan area). I finally found ONE copy at a random Gamestop....holy crap...I can't believe some of this things you can create and play and experience in this game. Cant imagine what people (myself included) will create in the next year and beyond. My God Media Molecule...my God....
I've spent hundreds of hours in the early access, and believe me, pretty much everyone starts out crap. The learning curve is steep, absolutely, but once the creative ball gets rolling, the game gets really, really addicting! I started specializing in FPS games a while back, and I'm now pretty confident it's possible to push mechanics into and maybe even beyond classic Halo territory! It's of course also nice that everything can be shared. I have used tons of assets made by the community, but in return have made and published templates so players can make their own first person shooters with different enemy types. Everyone can play to their strengths and lean on the community for their weaknesses in Dreams, which is just fantastic, and will increase the longevity of this game for sure.
Lol, you think someone will make a game as memorable as Halo with this? Maybe its better to see this as a tool for an amazing diverse mini game collection. But maybe I am wrong, what would you recommend as the best game yet?
Vinnisl a dude... just buy it and play around in the dreamverse. There are literally thousands of playable games and some, believe it or not, are damn near indistinguishable from professionally made games. Asking to point one out is like saying “what’s the best video on RU-vid?” It all depends on taste and interest which there is definitely something for everyone. And it just came out! Plus it’s 40 freaking dollars brand new. Super worth a try.
"To cover all of this game would take about a week" yeah... i've just spent 4 hours making attack animations lol a week is being generous, especially for people who didn't play the beta, not to mention all the games on dream surfing.
I bought the game 4 or 5 months ago on ps4 and i can tell you its fun. BUT rn the games made by others are more like tech demos. Im checking it out from time to time to see how far the games have come. Buy it
@@TheRealUnkn0wn_289 Missing constellations was really dope, survive was a cool concept, cant wait to see it finished 🔥, also have you already played through arts dream?
@@Rad_11B I have and I managed to get all the prize bubbles though I haven't recorded it but that ending song and visuals was amazing, the whole thing was just as amazing, but the ending really hit me, I wonder how thye did the effects with everything all white and black could've been through colour shaders in grade and effects but I don't know, I especially loved their cover at the end
@@TheRealUnkn0wn_289 I completely agree, it was such an amazing story and yeah the ending was just amazing lol, i rewatched it a good 20times, i haven't managed to get all of the prize bubbles yet tho, I'm aiming to get all achievements and then get that last for the platinum trophy
I’m not really interested in the creation aspect, as I do not have time; however, going through other people’s creations seems like the most enjoyable.
This is actually smart for sony in their part. Their building a game creator simulator for the PS platform. When you buy the new PS5 there almost no PS5 games so why not head to dreams.
It’s basically the successor to the LittleBigPlanet creator. Remember when Microsoft tried to do the same thing with Project Spark? Yeah, that worked....
Chris Luna autocorrect exists. Also how much of a virgin can you be? Correcting English on the internet. It’s a RU-vid video not an English exam kiddo.
Chris Luna obviously English isn’t your first language, let me correct that for you. English should start with a uppercase E. “isn’t” should have an apostrophe. “Lol” should have a comma after it. Know your shit before trying to act smart.
@@TheRealUnkn0wn_289 they side Major updates, such as online multiplayer and PSVR support, are set to be released for the game post-launch. so I'm guessing the month
