As we tried to work our way through the ridiculous, contrived and in many cases contradictory events of Episode 6, we came to one inescapable conclusion - nothing in this show makes a lick of sense.
Well the most common rookie mistake in writing is self-insertion. And in this case, we have rookie writers that are tedious, unlikeable narcissists... and they self-inserted themselves as the lead characters. So the result is predictable. VERY few people really like these characters, so most of us are not really invested in the overall plot or character arcs. The audience is just sort of dragged along for the ride in a plot line full of holes. It's funny when you see people that do actually like these characters. Just by their profile pics, you can immediately see why. They see their own extreme toxicity portrayed as virtue, and thus identify with them.
It boggles the mind. The Woke writers couldn't zoom out and say... "Wait, if we have a 50 year old guy weirdly obsessed with an underage girl, forces her to cut off contact with everyone she knows and accept whatever he says... will people call that grooming?"
Funny, I watched the first episode and that is exactly how I felt from the opening words on the screen. They didn't even do a crawl, just some poorly written sentences on the screen that look thrown together at the last minute. Gave me the vibe that someone thought, this is a Star Wars thing right? I also tried to read a high republic book. After one chapter I gave up and wondered if it was written for preschoolers. The writing was on that level. Disney Star Wars, barring a very few exceptions, is on that level. But made by adults who put in there weird fetishes. Makes it all a bit creepy.
@@mikeexits High Republic is all post Disney and I don't remember the book name, just that it was bad. I liked a good bit of the EU before disney. It seems there isn't a piece of Star Wars they haven't messed up. But to be fair all of Sci Fi publishing got a little weird.

Lee Jung-Jae, who plays Sol, is an absolute star of Korean movies and dramas and has been a dependable leading man for decades. If you haven't any experience with Korean drama, watching a half-dozen shows and films with Lee Jung-Jae is a great introduction to it. He is a class act and a solid professional.

It's honestly mindblowing how they failed to show Jedis as bad people. Like, they could have done anything to show them as evil and yet they failed to do so. The one who killed all the witches was Mae and it wasn't because she was mindtricked, she wanted to kill her sister only because Osha WANTED to follow the Jedis
Amandla Stenberg sucks at acting as Mae and Osha and she can't make a real distinction between twin girls despite they had lived separately after drifting apart for years.

The time inconsistencies remind me of season 8 of game of thrones. People just teleporting all over the place because they need to be somewhere. It seems to be a common phenomenon when terrible writers are involved in screenplays
@@bruhdon4748 They (possibly) know what they want to happen, but they just don't have the world building, character development or even just general writing skills to know how to get the story there. That's not even touching on the why. Why does this happen. Why does this action/event lead to this outcome/reaction? Because it does and because it needs to. If this story didn't have an established and loved (though recently heavily battered) IP like Star Wards attached to it there is no way anyone would look at the screenplay and think it was worth making. These writers are creative parasites, leeching of others because they cannot create anything of worth themselves.
EU/Legends wasn't perfect (let's be real there were some awful stories) but at the very least even the bad writers were passionate about Star Wars. The writers at Disney seem to hate Star Wars and are actively trying to turn it into something else.

Tbh, I lost like 90% interest in Star Wars when Disney bragged about axing all the EU canon. I was a big kotor guy, read a few of the books, thought there was some good potential there and then they... didn't even plan out the sequel trilogy? They really thought they could do so much better when they didn't have ANY ideas beyond "next movie, subvert expectations, rey good"? The EU is the REAL canon. Disney didn't even try.

@nikolaimyhre1187 one of them was Sol's apprentice, the other wasn't he should be able to feel that in the Force. He knew his apprentice very well. Jedi could tell clones about through the Force. Vader barely knew Leia. If Leia had a twin sister he'd be able to tell them apart from each other through the Force. Knowing Leia is hid daughter is different from a Jedi master not being able to tell his old apprentice apart from a stranger.

Vader wasn't aware of Leia's existence and therefore wasn't putting the feelers out for her. Sol was very aware of an identical twin and should've felt the difference in the Force between the two, even if Mae was using Sith powers to "hide" herself, the lack of Osha's Force essence should've been a red flag.

I can't cope with Qimir being mightier than a dozen Jedi and he's in his twenties. Count Dooku had power and gravitas as a master of the force because was experienced, trained, and has spent YEARS mastering the force. Qi Gon also. This guy (apparently from being stupidly over-powered) is just way too young and was never established as a 'master' or big bad. I think in the writer's mind he is just so strong because he can 'let loose' with his powers because he's unleashed or some trite bullshit.
You see... Smilo Ren was so powerful and so wise that he influenced the midiclorians to alter the passage of time for the whole planet....he had such a knowledge of the Force..he could even teach/corrupt the ones he thirsted for like Osha from making any kind of reasonable decisions, like running away from the serial killer who murdered a score of her friends the previous day. Not-Sith side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be illogical...

No kid would want to buy a toy of that thing. Who are they kidding? As a kid back in the day, I cared about the cool characters and the ships. The only toys they will sell from this, if at all, is a Qimir in his Sith costume duel wielding figure, and maybe his lightsaber, and only if it can disconnect like the show. There isn't even a single cool droid in this show.
The time it takes to travel anywhere in Star Wars has been wonky since the Sequel Trilogy. They made the galaxy feel really small. The Original Trilogy had moments where they're sitting around bonding while travelling, Luke training, Chewie and R2 playing Dejarik (space-Chess). There's even a measurable wait for the Death Star to manoeuvre around Yavin so it has line-of-sight! Space felt big! There's none of that in TFA, TLJ, or RoS. They planet hop with no downtime, and people arrive in the nick of time all the time! I don't know which sequel film was worst for this. TFA had its BS hyperspace laser which could be seen throughout the galaxy and New Republic which consisted of 4 planets in the same system. TLJ had that inane side quest to the casino planet, getting there and back before the fleet ran out of fuel. I'm fuzziest on RoS since it was all flash no substance, but that ending where everyone and their brother turns up for the final space battle still ticks me off; grand spectacle, sure, but damn convenient they all made it through that super narrow dangerous space corridor then regrouped into that mess of a cloud before making their appearance. Coming from an EU Legends fan I remember they always made a point of how Luke and the Jedi would have to enter meditation/hibernation when travelling long distances in their X-Wings because it would take days to go from place to place. The Falcon has cabins because it takes so long. This maintained a sense of scale and grandeur. The galaxy was big, and the republic/empire spanned a vast number of worlds. You couldn't hop around, travel took time and planning which made it that much more meaningful. If I recall correctly, the only time this breaks down or gets a little fuzzy is in ESB where the falcon's hyperdrive is borked. I think it's implied they travel to Cloud City via sublight, therefore adding days or longer to their travel. But this works since it gives Luke time to find Yoda and train with him for a *non-trivial* amount of time (unlike some other protagonists).
You're absolutely right. Regarding the Hoth-Bespin trip, it's been a known plot hole for decades. It was patched/retconned a long time ago by giving the Falcon a very slow backup hyperdrive, that took several weeks to reach Bespin. For this to make sense, using the backup cannot be 'a flick of a switch', but must require labour of some kind, like physically uninstalling the old drive and installing the backup in its place, or 'socket'. This resolution not only resolves the 'shortness' of the trip, it helps makes space seem 'big', since ships would not bother carrying 'limp home' gear if they could simply flag down passing ships or call a tow truck. As you mentioned, this actually fits the plot pretty well, since the movie cuts to Luke training with Yoda. He looks a lot more athletic and there's no indication of how much time has passed. It's also clear that the Empire has been at Cloud City for some time before the Falcon arrives. The truth, of course, is that George Lucas didn't know how big space is.

Wookieepedia doesn't mention it, but I found a blog post from someone who wrote some reference material, which in turn references the "Movie Trilogy Sourcebook" from 1993. Bless RPGs needing to answer every question. I'd need to watch ESB again (woe is me) to double check if they mention sublight at all (I thought they did). Supposedly they do mention sublight in the Radio Drama.
It's like they stole the A-Team storylines where B.A. wouldn't fly, so they'd find creative ways to incapacitate him and then fly to their destination.
The woke grift is about money, just not earning it. The activist employees get paid whether or not their propaganda sells which is why they always double down. Disney management allows this, but ultimately they need all their projects to be financially successful or the business can't continue. That's where stakeholders like Blackrock loan Disney buckets of other people's money trapping them in a debt spiral. A schizophrenic character who thinks she is 2 separate people because she cannot accept the reality that she alone killed her lesb witch mothers and their coven. At such a young age that trauma split her reprehensible personality in half, forming 2 separate poorly formed and dislikable personas. Now her life is an endless loop of going unconscious anytime that truth, or even a clue to it is about to be revealed.
The twin leads are played so robotically dully, that to have any interest in their stories and how they end is impossible. It would be like being passionately concerned about the ultimate fate of the cardboard tube from the middle of a toilet roll.
It would just be super nice if giant media companies would stop giving creative control and writing gigs to activists whose sole purpose is to air their manifesto.
One of the most egregious signs of bad writing is the constant feeling that things happen solely due to the fact that the writer wants them to happen, instead of due to any internal logic or proper setup and payoff. You can excuse maybe one or two coincidences in a film or a show, but when it becomes the default that characters act stupid or passive despite every reason not to, the material can't be salvaged by any acting performance or money poured on special effects.
Disney Star Wars does not consider time...Look at Mandalorian season 3. Mando gets captured after exploring for hours. He is going to be cooked by the weird droid. Baby yoda backtracks, gets to the ship, flies to another planet, gets Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, flies back to the planet, they have to hike for hours to get back to Mando and he's still fine.

12:30 - This instant travel is part of Disney Star Wars. Look at how fast the ships moved in The Last Jedi. But in A New Hope, the journey from Tatooine to Alderaan is so long Luke gets in a lightsaber training session.
Most of Luke's Jedi training was completed whilst the Millenium Falcon was travelling somewhere. His training with Kenobi on the way to Alderaan and then his training with Yoda whilst the Falcon was on its way to Cloud City. It's never that clear how long they were traveling to and fro or how long the period was between ESB and RotJ. It was assumed to be days or weeks to get to Aldaraan, afterall Tatooine was a backwater on the edge of the civilized galaxy.

I blame the showrunners and directors. It was the same issue with Rosario Dawson in Ahsoka. I know Rosario Dawson is a brilliant actress, yet in Ahsoka, she has all the personality and acting range of a piece of wet cardboard. This wooden acting in these series is no different from the asinine writing. These are deliberate choices coming straight from the top. And its name is Dave Feloni.

For a show that's supposed to be all about female empowerment, the main female protagonist and antagonist sure don't have much agency in this show, and they sure seem to be getting knocked out, kidnapped, and restrained a lot. Osha has been rescued or protected how many times? Usually we call major female characters in such situations damsels in distress, kind of the very opposite of a strong female character. What has she done through this entire show that has actually made a difference to the story, especially in a positive way. Yes, you don't want your characters to be Mary Sues, but the main character's decisions and actions should be driving the plot, if they aren't then they shouldn't be the main character.
Especially Osha is effectively a spectator in her own story. It's like some bad YA novel where the female protagonist spents most of the story being a miserable doormat until she _finally_ powers up to a girlboss to take her just revenge or something.
Disney writers heard the term character arc and drew a semi circle. Characters legit do not grow in these shows, they don't go through anything. Look at Frodo from Fellowship to King. That guy goes through it and was scarred by his journey. Hell even a side character like Théoden goes from a puppet, to being freed only to find his country in ruins and despairs to becoming a legit king of kings when riding to the aid of a country that did nothing to help him only to fall and die in battle. NOW THAT IS AN ARC!
There is definitely the skeleton of an interesting premise in this show, that is, the differences in philosophies between the Jedi and the Sith. One of the hoary maxims about writing villans is that they themselves shouldn't think they are villans, because everyone believes themselves to be the heroes of their own stories. If Vader and Palpatine have a weakness as characters it's that they seem a little too aware that they're the bad guys, which was never a really a problem given that Star Wars unabashedly embraces archetypes, and certainly Palpatine and Vader can and do logically enumerate their philosophies and justifications at various points throughout the two trilogies. But Count Dooku, for example, is different in that he's much more of an idealist who does what he does less from a desire for personal gain than from a genuine belief that he's on the right side of history (and also some personal gain, he's a Sith, after all). In any case, a Star Wars story with a more Dooku-like villan could absolutely work, but I think the narrative perspective would always have to remain true to the Star Wars ethic of "good vs evil," i.e., as much as the audience is allowed to understand the motivations of the villan, and as much as the villan is permitted to think of himself as the hero, the objective view of the story would always need to be presented as that villan being wrong, and the corresponding "good guys" being right. Because that's Star Wars. It's also a lot tougher to write a sympathetic or at least logical villan who is completely convinced of his own righteousness but who has flaws that he himself doesn't see, and which undermine his position so that the audience won't fully accept his reasons for acting. Much easier to just have your villan character be polite, have some scars on his back that indicate someone was mean to him, and make your "heroes" shady as hell. Then everything is nicely ambiguous, the writer doesn't have to take a moral position, and the show runner can prattle on with terms like "I wanted to *explore*..." and "we really *dug in to* the motivations..."
So this show has now dropped out of the streaming top 10 completely for week 6. Into no-mans land where numbers are not even worth releasing. Yeh, they wrote this thing with season 2 in mind, realised they couldn't stretch it out to a measly four hours and brought stuff in that was planned for season 2. They STILL don't have enough material for season 1, that's why so much of the episodes are dead air and info repeats. There won't be a season 2. This thing is dead in the water.
Other than letting us know what happened on Brandock, (personally I don’t care) this show has no story. We have two episodes left, which is about 50 minutes in total, to wrap this up, but what is there to wrap up? The witches were killed. So what. It has no bearing on the main story. Neither Mae or Osha has mentioned or hinted that they need to know what happened. Whatever happened is not motivating Mae, as she just wants to become an Acolyte, and killing those Jedi was her task. Other than the incident with Master Torbin, I haven’t seen any motivation on Mae’s part that has anything to do with revenge, she was just doing what she was told to do. The only character that has any agency is Qimir, but we don’t know much about him, and he’s literally only really showed up in episode five. I still don’t understand how this got greenlit. Where’s the quality control?
I really appreciate that none of these guys are resorting to dumb homophobia or woke jokes and just criticizing the writing and acting for what it is. Garbage. I love the scene in episode 6 when Osha and Mae finally meet and midway through the shot of them approaching each other there's suddenly an aerial horizon shot. Like, WTF just happened. On top of everything else, it's edited like crap. So effing amateur.
I find it hilarious that everything under the sun gets explained in monologues... While something like the tracker talking to sol or sol finally feeling the force again, happens to be the biggest mystery of the show
That "interuption" thing you guys are talking about is an old TV writing trope. It happens in most series actually. Someone about to say important info then the doorbell rings or the phone rings. And then they never get back to that train of thought. It's a "soapy" cop-out for writers because they FEAR ending or concluding plot lines (if one can call plot what Acolyte is doing).
Does anyone else find it terribly appropriate that not only does Leslye Headland announce that it's all going exactly the way she thought it would, but that - it's "just like the stories she wrote in high school?" I weep for future feature film and on-demand content.

It is such a cheap trick in writing. It implies a level of complexity that simply doesn't exist and allows the viewer to project whatever they want onto it to feel connected and satisfied. It is smoke and mirrors for writers.
I would love to be a Senior Disney Executive because nothing would give me more satisfaction that recruiting the 5 of you along with a few others Nerdrotic, Disparu and Snarky etc , a few decent writers and Star Wars nerds in order to develop a totally original series without “the message” limitations because personally I think that it would be the start of a new era .
Just because they recognise the problems with Disney in general and Star Wars in particular doesn’t mean that they could actually write decent material.

Seoul, Smilo, and X23 must be great actors, because they took shitty roles and actually did something with them. They got bad writing and bad direction and are kind of fun to watch compared to the rest. I feel like i've watched his show, just from watching MauLer, Disparu, Az, the drinker, platoon, and gary going through each episode.
