Ooh Wee! That belt was about to let somebody down on the side of the road! I'm about to change out mine right now that was put on 5 years ago. No problems with it so far. But I'll feel more comfortable with a new on there. I keep a new belt with the tools to change it out in my trunk always. Just like the old air-cooled Beetles! Keep a belt and the tools with you at all times. Going to be 55 and sunny today. A nice day to to the job. This is Feb 19th, 2024. If you don't hear back from me, we did alright. Thanks for the video. I was afraid I was going to have to remove that top engine mount, which I did not want to do!

Thanks so much for this clear straightforward video.I appreciate the vocal instructions as well! Other how to videos give good pictures but it is sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying ! Much appreciated !

Thank you for your instruction video and additional final tip on installing the belt on the alternator first to get a better fit... that would've driven me absolutely crazy trying to figure that out...

Thank you for this instruction video. I think many of us are driven by unscrupulous auto repair shops to make these repairs ourselves. We just don't want to get ripped off anymore. A shop changed out the battery for a new one. A few months later, the serpentine belt obliterated. We have our suspicions, which is why we are very hesitant to go back to this shop to install a new serpentine belt. It certainly appears as if your OEM belt was spiked: it's too neat a hole. One thing I learned: when the shop calls you to come pick up your car, ask right away how much it costs. For fixing my flat, I was told $15. When I went to pick it up, the fellow told me $20. How come? I was told $15. Oh, let me check. After a surreptitious check, yes, $15. Guess where the extra $5 would have gone? So I will not visit this garage again. This is how bad hires kill the business of otherwise honest shop owners.

Daryl Locklear I agree with you. I got my oil changed at Walmart (I don't have jack stand or ramps to feel comfortable doing it myself) and later that day I ran out of antifreeze. I filled it up this morning and I'm empty again. What are the chances of that

awesome, thanks! was hoping to jus tension the old belt a bit before i went to the shop to get a new one (205,000km). I double checked sizes but managed to round over the bolt (1st one you released). So much for a quick fix. Came back here to double check what you did and confirm everything. I did everything right, but the nut just rounded. probably hasn't been touched in 205,000 km i guess.

recommendation. when working under the hood please remove all rings and jewelry from yourself. don't want them shorting out and burning you. when routing the belt, remember that if the pulley has grooves it gets the grooved side of the belt. if pulley is smooth, it gets the back of the belt. good video. thanks for sharing.

Great video. You will need something to leverage the alternator away from the engine in order to re-tension the new belt (like a crowbar)

Good video, but you did not show how you tensioned the belt (presumably with a crow/pry bar or a very large screwdriver). And the engine bay needs a wash.:)

Zero deflection on belt same deal is automatic tensioner or it will slip and sqeal

Great video, we are in the process of replacing one on ours, however not sure if we have a dodgy belt; the new one just won’t fit over the smooth pulley. Any tips? No idea how you fit a screw driver anywhere near it either.

Which HID headlights did you install and have you had any problems with them? Thanks for the video, I was about to replace my belt without checking youtube for instructions but then I thought to myself that someone probably has a good tip to make the task easier than winging it.

I would think the hole was caused by a stone getting caught up in the belt, the belts are low lying so can get flung up onto the belt.

I had the same belt and did this on an 08 yaris with no ac. Thing kept coming loose so often, and the manual tensioner didnt make it easier. I tried many times fixing it, and still same problem. I ended up ordering an bando off amazon which is the same as OEM. Havent tried it, gonna take forever to ship.
@jabbajawz
@jabbajawz 9 лет назад
I am pretty sure you need a shorter belt for the one with no ac. At least when I went to buy mine there were two belt sizes. The regular size belt would always be loose if you do have an AC compressor to hook it up to.
@AwesomenessIskey

Jermaine Beckford It ended up being a problem with the belt, I had the right size, but when I put the bando, it went away
