Fine. As I said before, wait until all the landscaping is finished and construction hoardings are gone before completion. Of course in earlier stages, good idea to show these as steps during construction.

It's such a tragedy we don't even have 1 tram line left in Brisbane not what a waste

You can thank Clem Jones for that. It’s ironic that the only stretch of tram lines still in full view, into the terminus at Belmont, runs right past Jones’s former house. And a pity that so many plans to give the tram museum a decently long track to run their trams on have never come to anything.

i thoroughly enjoyed this. these are places i used to frequent. i just checked google on your assertion about needing to wait for the green light when doing a hook turn. you are correct, 100%. it is the law now. i'm sure the law used to say that you could complete the turn when safe to do so. that man might have got his licence back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, like me. i think he should have given more space to the motorcyclist turning left. talk about turning left, it used to be the law that left turning vehicles had to give way to right turning vehicles. that stupid law was reversed and made the same as other states in the late 70's. i had some near-incidents until everyone got up to speed with the change. the coppers should have sent out a pamphlet with licence renewals telling everyone that laws have changed. in fact they should be doing it now. and demanding that a reply form with a signature on it be required to complete a licence payment.

I’m not a Melburnian so don’t know earlier history of these turns but always thought you had to wait for the green in your new street. This would be to guard against people missing something coming in their new street which would be easy to do trying to look around corners etc. As for the right turn before left, that was to get right turning cars off the tramline sooner to assist the trams through. I think it was Kennett who changed that. That was when I was a tram driver there, early 90s I would say.

@@tressteleg1 , getting trams through intersections has never been a priority matter in melbourne as you well know. that might have been the initial reason for the law. i'd never considered that. i'm quite sure i know when the law about which turner has priority was changed because i had a near miss with an obviously sloshed pisshead who disputed my assertion. we both drove to the port melbourne police station to ask inside about who was right. then he pulled his head in as we were parked outside. i know which car i was driving. i got rid of it in 1980.

Well helping trams in a small way was that right before left in Victoria. I found this easily with a Google search. “This rule changed on Sunday, February 28, 1993. The Victorian road rules were changed for cars turning left at intersections to have the right of way before those making a right hand turn, bringing the Victorian road laws in line with other Australian states.” Giving trams priority at traffic lights would make a far greater difference as happens on most tramways in the world including Gold Coast, Sydney, and Canberra.

@@tressteleg1 , if you google "what is the oldest steam locomotive in western australia", it says "g111". wrong! g111 is about the tenth oldest in wa. i had seen the statement claiming that g111 was the oldest written somewhere. knowing that this was wrong, i asked google and got the same answer. google is probably where the wrong information came from. i saw the google statement claiming the law about turning was changed in 1993 like you mentioned, scrolled down and saw another entry quoting 1993. they are wrong. the law was changed long before i left melbourne in 1987. i need to see the actual law or the government gazette which will provide the date of implementation before i accept that i'm wrong. i'm sure google is wrong. again!

@@vsvnrg3263 Google is only as good as somebody who submits what they believe is correct. Sometimes my own videos prove Google wrong. One example is the date the last CPH rail motor ran in service in NSW. My video proves it was the same day rail electrification opened in Wollongong as we see the suitably decorated CPH making its last trip to Moss Vale but Google says no more than mid 1980s. I KNOW the right before left rule changed around the time stated as it was a big issue affecting all tram drivers and a talking point in the depot. We all expected longer delays from cars right turning on the tram lines, sometimes causing us to miss traffic lights by a few seconds which would not have happened under the old (abnormal for Australia) rule. Maybe the rule which changed in your time was something else.

I don’t think tracks and roundabouts mix in very well.. as I understand trams have full priority over cars even if the car is already in the roundabout. I wouldn’t be surprised if collisions happen at those places. I remember the Sandringham line trains passing a roundabout near brighton beach, but at least that gets a boom gate as a safety feature.

That’s right. Motorists aren’t thinking of trams going through the centre of a roundabout. I had a few minor bumps, but there is nothing you can do when a car enters a roundabouts after the tram, forgets about the tram, then bumps into the left side of the tram. The tram driver does not even know the car is there. Several roundabouts which were there in my time have been removed and replaced by lights on busier roads. Of course these delay the trams which roundabouts rarely did.
