We purchased our 2001 Lincoln Continental and wasn't aware it too had transmission issue. But we only paid 2800.00 for it too. After figuring out the transmission needed work, we took it to a very reputable transmission repair/rebuild shop to work on it (it's where all the local mechanics send their customers and anyone who races for competition takes their vehicles too for transmission work). We were told it was probably just a module that needed replaced. But we were told by the transmission repair shop that they needed to do more work than just the module. They completely rebuilt the transmission, top bottom / front to back. So we basically have a new transmission. We could not be happier with this car now. Our car is basically identical to yours except we have the steering wheel mounted shift lever and the two separate armrests in the seat center. Ours also has the Alpine sound system with the six CD disc changer, AM FM stereo with cassette. We only use the CD and radio. Ours also has the power sunroof in it. I'm pretty sure it has all the options you could get for that car in 2001.
Yeah, I remember as a kid an older friend had one of these. The engine was solid & extremely responsive. But the transmission in these things are… well the less I say the better.
