Don't be too hard on the VW guy - I assume most of the involved people were at the launch event at that time, so they probably picked someone "from the side". VW could easily have said: "No, we have no one available, Bjørn will need to wait" - and then he would have been behind everyone else. So kudos to VW for making it possible! 👍

What's cool about this car is that it's a hatchback / fastback. So the trunk should be very practical and big. Looking forward to the proper sleeping test under the stars. Also, very curious whether there is a noticeable difference in efficiency of the new motor. Apart from the obvious glitches in the software here, it looks much snappier and more user-friendly with all the shorcuts. Hopefully VW will get Bjorn at the launch event as well and give him one for a week to have at it 😊👍

Seems like a more aerodynamic ID.4/5. Naturally, it will be quieter and be more efficient on the motorway. I like the new 15 inch infotainment screen, maybe that's coming to the refreshes of ID.4/5. Makes sense because the ID.3 update received the same display as ID.4/5. It's a good car that will be better for long trips. ID.7 should be Tesla fast for the 1000km challenge, given the improved aerodynamics.

Great review! Would be interesting to see how Android Auto / CarPlay looks like on the 15inch screen. VW did a really poor job adding it to the VW Touareg which also has a 15inch screen. So hopefully they did a much better job with the new ID7

Do you have a credible source which supports this claim? I have a very limited experience with head-up displays in cars. I have only used it once and I have indeed found it obtrusive and distracting. Mostly due to the need to change eye focus when looking at it. But it might be possible to get used to it and drive safely with it. It might even be possible that, when used properly and when the driver is used to it, it enhances safety. I do not know. It seems though that many people like it. In addition, head up displays are being used extensively by airplane pilots. So, I assume that there must be some genuine benefit they bring.

@Bjorn, not sure why "one pedal driving" with strong regen is so important? I feel it is a gimmick. When breaking with the break pedal, regen is also used. What is important is how much power can be used for regen, the more the better. However, snappy acceleration and break neck regen cause a lot of losses to heat. The most economical is to sail. And that is easier with gentle regen. I almost never use the higher regen setting on the e-208, default is perfect with some mild regen and if you need more you can hit the break pedal. Up to max regen power, then the waster-calipers close.
@PhilippeDHooghe
@PhilippeDHooghe Год назад
@@jooptablet1727 yes I have. I tried it when I had my e-208 in the beginning. That is why I do not see the point. It is a total scam that using one pedal driving saves energy and therefore an EV should always have one pedal driving capable to come to a full stop. It is much better to anticipate, maximize sailing, avoid slowing down with regen and if you have to slow down, slightly touch the break pedal to use regen at the lowest possible power level. And certainly avoid going over the max regen power. I do agree that for those who do not understand how the tech works, one pedal driving can guide them to feel how much regen capability there is and in so doing help them anticipate better to stay within the constraints of the inverter. Too much emphasis is put on how fast an EV can accelerate and use one pedal driving. This is bonkers. It is using up tires. Be gentle. Avoid harsh accelerations, go gently. Sail. Don't break. That is economical, that helps the planet a lot more than this one pedal thing that encourages people to turn their battery energy primarily into heat and fine dust particles from the tires.
@PhilippeDHooghe
@PhilippeDHooghe Год назад
@@jooptablet1727 Interesting viewpoint... how is one pedal driving safer? I never thought of a safety aspect of one pedal driving... could you enlighten me? I like safety! Yes indeed, I was sailing using one pedal driving too. The dosing of pressure on the pedal starts hurting my legs after a while :-). But that is just me, I've become very lazy since all these assistance things came on the market. I drove cars where everything had to be done by yourself except pushing the car forward for about 20 years. Than I had my first automatic (because Audi A8 did not come with a manual gearbox :-)) and ever since I had to do less and less, even not having to steer (almost). I welcome all this evolution, I find driving a waste of time... I look forward to the day the computer takes care of transport and I can do something meaningful instead :-). Like sharing experiences with you :-).

Disagree. One Pedal can be confusing, especially if you have not enough regen power available. I switch between D and B mode depending on the situation. One pedal is only important in cheap cars that don't have blake blending. On a car with good brake blending, the foot brake doesn't reduce efficiency because it will always do regen first, friction brake second.
@PhilippeDHooghe
@PhilippeDHooghe 5 месяцев назад
@@kain0m Precisely my point. One thing I have not really considered yet is how much power the regen can be. I believe that is key. If your car runs out at 11 kW regen power, than ypu'll use more friction braking than if you have 100 kW. And that key spec is nowhere to be found in EV specs. If cars that do true one pedal driving have higher regen capacity, than the statement that these are more economical is true.

I'll never understand why Bjørn wants to fiddle with regen settings. This car has brake blending, why not just tap the brake pedal and recuperate regardless, and sail when you don't need to brake? 😐

It took a while for me to get used to it, but one pedal driving is actually quite convenient and allows for very good speed control and smooth braking. That's why many people use high regen settings

I have been driving with regen for 1.5 years now. A while ago I had a VW Passat loaner as someone hit my Tesla and they had to fix my bumper. The Passat was horrible in many ways, but the most annoying one was having to press and hold the brakes all the time. I almost ran through a red light because I forgot to hold the brake pedal 😂

@@nielsvandenkieboom5034 what age was your Passat? Because every current one has "Auto Hold", so you don't have to hold the brake. And didn't your car have ACC + sign recognition either? 🤷‍♂️ I'm especially asking since Bjørn often wants to use it during trips, in which sailing would simply make more sense. But well, each to their own I guess 🫤

@@BVZTIII I think on the license plate it may have been a 2018 version. I honestly didn’t want to drive it so I just took it home, parked it and only used it after I got the call that my car was fixed. Driving it for 25 km in two days was plenty for me 😂 I just use Tesla’s autopilot on the highway so there’s no need for me to coast on longer distance. When I drive on the German autobahn I also prefer one pedal because it makes me brake fast without losing energy to the friction brakes. But it’s all personal preferance, I also have a colleague with the same Tesla and he dislikes one pedal driving because he is so used to automatic cars while I used to drive manual only before this car.
@BVZTIII
@BVZTIII Год назад
@@nielsvandenkieboom5034 both understandable. However, brake blending doesn't use the brake unless the regen max power is reached. So if one uses the brake pedal doesn't matter there most of the time. What bothers me personally with Tesla is that they don't have brake blending 🫤
