We went on a short overloading adventure in the Jeep Gladiator to find a few lost and forgotten places to treasure hunt! We found an awesome structure but it was across the river! What was it? I dunno, but we used the drone to get there and it was awesome!

Ya'll be careful in that jungle! I was metal detecting up here in MT in the NF and got bit by a tick a couple weeks ago. Next thing I knew I had a 102 fever and probably Rock Mtn Spotted Fever, according to the Dr. Just finished the treatment...not fun!

Guessing by the fire brick, and the trees butchered, I would say a charcoal kiln

Fantastic that you let Abel explore as much as you do. Children need to learn how to evaluate risks. If they're smothered in cotton wool they'll never get the opportunity. Curious as to what put the deer carcass in the tree. Mountain lion? Here in the UK we only have the occasional aggressive squirrel to deal with! Cheers from Hampshire and looking forward to new adventures.

Thanks so much for your response! YES!!! Kids need to experience risk AND mitigate situations! Obviously we should intervene if necessary BUT I personally think we (parents) underestimate their tenacity! We have TONS to learn from them! Thanks again!

I personally think it might have been wolves. We have a pretty substantial amount up here

Totally agree. Watch out for those wolves! I really enjoy watching you explore these deserted homesteads and old west ghost towns.

Very cool, thanks for posting it and for the risky drone work 😁. Now get back over there with a 6" coil. I would try along the bank of that creek on the mill side. I bet workers sat there for years fishing for dinner. Might find some pocket spills.

Had to be a mill of some kind. Now comes the fun part, research time. I almost enjoy researching more than I do metal detecting lol.

With the proximity to the river I would have to agree.

I don't know the area, but could that structure have been a lime kiln? If limestone is in the area, likely it was. Definitely not a coal coking kiln. Also the possibility that it was used to mount a steam donkey winch for logging. That would be pretty easy to find out from historical records for that area. In my area, where they had a logging camp there is still the remains of a concrete bank vault- out in the middle of what is now a swamp.

would think you would find burnt brick if it was some sort of oven or smelter. i see wagons or small trucks backed into the bays with some processed material dumped in from above. On another note, why so many dead trees?

Gotta love drones. If it was an old mill site they may have been timber drying kilns. Cheers, Ken B.

Awesome video!! Quite the structure. Originally I thought it might have been an early 1900’s saloon or hotel. Can’t wait for some new silver finds!

If you were smart you'd have crossed straddling the log like your kid did. If you slipped and fell, hit your head etc., how's he going to help you? BTW, that was a millipede not a centipede.

Most likely a gun store on one side and a dispensary on the other side. Or it could of just been a 7 eleven.
