the laptop was used only as a recording device. audio is straight from the mixer's stereo outs. no computer modification except for a bit of compression.
Thank god i was on ebay between 1999-2005. Best time ever. Cheap as shit all those analog equipment, everyone wanted to get rid of it. Now when I sell it I can buy the State of Hawaii with it. Book m Danno
would've killed to be around in those days. 18 so the analog revival train swept up the market long before me. happily, most high-consumer 80s and 90s digital gear is dirt cheap right now. thats where I think I'm going to be for the next few years :)
it's hard for me to describe why i find this so much more interesting and valuable than other ambient videos on youtube, but all i can say is that you should keep doing what you're doing, i don't care if it's exactly like this or nothing like this, you have a strong creative and intuitive mind (i mean hell, you have to if you're going to make something like this). i love this, i hope you do too, don't let anyone tell you it isn't special
yo I'm seeing people that are saying "just learn a real instrument" bla bla bla but dude you're making real music here. Them's just close minded haters who are unaware that you can literally make music out of anything. Stomp percussion for example. Idk I'm ranting at this point but I'm an instrumentalist as well as someone who sees how sick ambient music is. Keep rockin (at a moderate volume)
I personally love it. Just wish the kid didn't look like such beta male. Im sick of how the culture teaches young people that creative types have to be domesticated effeminate types. Not every creative person has to be a little wimpy teen man-boy.
I know, right?? Every male human should be a testosterone-besotted knuckle-dragger, with a chin like the prow of the Titanic and a forehead like two bears sleeping at the foot of the Berlin Wall, and grabbing pussies left and right!! *chestbump* @@YTTraveler777
I forgot about this video and then I got recommended it again.. We just finished a concept album recorded on the Tascam 488 Portastudio, it took about 2 years or so to complete. I remember at one point during the process, I was watching this video on repeat because it gave me lots of inspiration to keep working on our music. So thanks for that!! The album's alt-folk style music with some experimental sounds like tape loops, musical saw, synths, field recordings, etc. It's uploaded on our channel if anyone wants to check it out!
Loving the album so far. Really enjoying the fluid journey through textural tracks into pockets of song and acoustic instruments. The voice and lyrics add a lot; her vibrato patterns are so yarney and warm. I am overjoyed that fellow artists enjoy what I have made! To be an inspiration is beyond my usual perception of self, so thank you for your kind comment. Keep making art!!!
I just learned the A minor expended pattern, and the guy that taught it to me said to go find a minor drones on RU-vid and I just found you, and totally just soloed with a bunch of delay over this and it was awesome! Wish I wound have recorded it so I could send it to you! Really love this!!!
I would have never expected someone to play along with my videos. So cool how improvisation can spread. It would make me really happy to hear so feel free to record over my stuff!
That was really cool - love how you've just taken this rag-tag collection of instruments, effects and other sound-making devices and made something really beautiful out of it! This is creativity!
four track drone is easy to find (on the internet at least haha), but this is extremely well executed. enough going on to keep me interested, and i don't often listen to ambient music. very nice!
That was really mesmerizing, good stuff! Looks like a really fun setup too -- I have the same model of Portastudio and it's a blast. I always love seeing the creative ways that people find to play them as instruments
God knows how I've only just come across this. A wonderful soundscape you've created there! Sounds so atmospheric. Why on earth have so many people down voted this? It winds me up immensely that people don't realise the talent and vision that goes into creating something like this.
Thank you for your kind comment! Glad you enjoyed this. Sum Jelly Rolls; I think their mommas didn't teach them how to ask their friends to share their toys lmao
So amazing. I'm interested in creating music is a similar way, just picked up a 414 and loving it so far. Your video has inspired me to incorporate more analog equipment.
i would like to say, this is beautiful. and these sounds are ethereal. to be present in such practice is a performance in itself and this is depicted in such a delicate approach, thank you.
Sublime ...you’re way ahead of your years, which is ironic as you’ve mastered something way behind your years. I’ve been writing a Max patch to simulate the analogue world of Tape lag accumulation, but you can’t beat real analogue.
Reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind( hope I got that right.. I'm not checking to see), or at least there was some lo fi drones in that movie. My guess is that you might already be on to that, collaboration with film enthusiasts, etc. blah bla Anyway, I liked your stuff, it's cool. I read the comments, you seem like a nice person who is humble. That's a good quality these days. Good luck with your interests. Cheers.
Who are the mean people that give this video thumps down, the ones they compose with the latest plugins and they crank the volume at -5 RMS good job old gear not mean it’s absolute
I used this as my Jacobs School of Music Audio Engineering portfolio and the professors loved it. Skilled engineers dig balanced mixes even if they're low fidelity!!!!
Glad you find it funny, got off the Mastering service sold everything and got into the eurorack world, now I enjoy music back again, like used to 45 years ago, music is in our veins, much happier keep playing cool videos, good luck 👍
Good to see an sp out there. I just started working with tape loops and only have a 1 track, so I'm sampling on my sp to actually build tracks. It's been fun, tho using all of it's fx.
