I'm a bit blown away on the 80% versus 90% throttle cap that really the only added speed was coming out of hairpins on that track - and one where I think a tiny bit less weight could have produced a very similar effect, so we (you at least) really are on a knife edge of wringing out performance where a slightly lighter motor with a bit less KV could achieve that same exact result at matching throttle caps... but I'd argue the 2100KV MCK's give you even more flexibility to fine tune that in, and be so incredibly comfortable that once you were really on it, stuff like the corks and second dive are taken at nearly full throttle.

when i started racing i use to watch all your videos to keep me motivated and your throttle limit video helped me so much on my lines and how i manage my throttle. we need more racing videos!!

thanks dude, I'm glad I could help, and your comments really help. I was feeling kind of down a bit about some things, and it was harder to spend the time making videos. I had a few people reach out saying they really missed them and it helped me to get back out there. I do enjoy them, and honestly it helps when I hear that others appreciate it too. Happy racing man!

Glad to see a new video Jay! Thanks for sharing your process, and findings, for improving via DVR review. Do you ever compare your DVR to other pilots? If so, do you use the same process for analyzing it?
@JohnEFly
@JohnEFly 2 года назад
no, I don't typically compare my DVR to other pilots. It would definitely be a good thing to do though. I'm just usually not recording other pilots DVR. Someone else suggested it, and I do think I should try it moving forward from time to time though!

Loved seeing a new video. The way I would interpret your findings is that the exit from complex obstacles is super important. The smoothness and how quickly and efficiently you get on the throttle when exiting. In motor sports racing, it’s common that the exit of a tough corner, especially when it’s followed by a fast section, is one of the most important parts of a track.

You know, I think you are right. It's 100% super important. I think the key for me was I didn't realize just how much of an impact the dive gate had, especially that first one on the course. I think a lot of it is that the main line through the dive is going down, yet it's about how you wind up going forward. I think the fact that I was flying this with a right 360 turn also slowed the forward momentum to a stop making it that much more important to focus on the exit speed forward. Thanks for the analysis Jim

Great video! DVR review and putting your own flying under the microscope is something I think a ton of people would benefit from. I know I try to do it as often as I can! An area that I have noticed as a recurring issue for me, is trying to ensure I keep my speed up (or increase it) during "transition zones" of the track. Getting through technical bits is obviously important, but all of the simple go-between type sections can really add up if you are just giving away speed. A tiny bit different from the side by side DVR review, I just time stamp various parts of the track to try and hone where my trouble areas are. So Start to first feature, first feature to next feature, etc. Partition out the track into 6-10 sections. I might do the same thing with snapping some footage of a faster pilot than me and see where they land in my table. Then I can see if they are just taking features cleaner, maybe holding speed in between faster, etc. "Oh I made it through the feature faster than they did, but they got to the next one sooner?? Did I put too much focus on the feature and blow out the exit a little bit? Have to make corrections on the exit?" Etc.

love it dude, that's awesome. Here I found it interesting that I always review my DVR and analyze what I think I'm doing well and what I need to improve. But I don't usually do side by side DVR reviews. The side by side really showed something different than I identified just by watching a single run by myself. It was surprising to me. I need to take more DVR of other pilots (aka JakeHammer) and compare side by side :)
