I was wondering when you two would get together, glad to see. It's insane to me how people will let a so called doctor butcher their bodies. About ten years ago I went to the emergency room because I had a racing heart rate. I was admitted ASAP and the doctor came in and told me the left ventricle on my heart wasn't pumping blood and I needed emergency surgery. When I asked why and what would cause that he told me he didn't know. He left and another doctor came in and tried to sell me a bunch of medical BS and I told him you're NOT cutting on me. A few minutes later a nurse came in and started telling me about her heart attack surgery and how well her surgery went and how I had nothing to be afraid of. She was doing a bunch of things in my room that I don't remember now. When I asked her what she was doing she told me she was preparing me for surgery. My jaw dropped. I told her I NEVER consented to surgery. She looked shocked and went and got another doctor. He told me my heart was fine. When I asked why did the other two doctors tell me I needed "emergency heart surgery" he told me no one told me that. When I insisted they did he had the nerve to ask me if I was ever treated for mental illness. Then he insisted it would be a good idea if I stayed overnight for observation just to be safe, after telling me nothing was wrong and maybe I was crazy. Because I had minor kids at the time I stayed overnight against my better judgement. Turns out my insurance pays 100% for any surgery or hospital stay. To this day I know their motivation was money. I know if I hadn't been fully insured they wouldn't have insisted I stay overnight to the tune of over $10,000 for less than a 24 hour stay. Btw I had ZERO symptoms of a heart attack except age which was 51 at the time. Two years ago just before covid I joined a high impact Zumba call filled with 20 and 30 something year old ladies who couldn't keep up with me. After class the instructor thanked me for joining the class and bringing such high energy to her dragging class. Because I've always been fit, never over weight I smelled a rat. I'm not saying I couldn't have had a heart attack but it was going to take a LOT more proof than their words. Turns out I was having a reaction from too much thyroid medication. Now when a doctor tell me something I take it with 20 buckets of salt and research the heck out of it before I consider their recommendation.🤔
Oh my for the sweet Love of God thank you for your story this is why I keep saying to myself it’s better not to have great insurance to your name because it seems to me that every time you have great insurance and you go to the doctor they want to do all kinds of tests they want to do all kinds of surgeries A similar thing happened to me they kept me overnight and by the time I got out of there it was over $10,000 shame on them there was nothing wrong with me except I was having a reaction because I had a thyroid problem that was never detected before by my regular doctor some of those doctors are so ignorant they don’t do nothing for you except to charge the insurance if you have a good insurance if you don’t they just don’t care wow the insurance companies need to be more strict with these doctors.
Holy f*** thanks for sharing your very scary story, you must be in the US I'm thinking.....$10,000 for an overnight stay! That is absolutely insane. I have just had a self-funded Inguinal hernia operation here in Australia. I don't have private insurance because the government run Medicare here always seemed to work OK (even though it is definitely underfunded) but I would have to have waited longer and needed to go overseas so I bit the bullet and paid for it myself. Total cost was around AUD7000 and that included an overnight stay in the hospital just to be sure (I could have survived without it) and the cost of that overnight in the hospital included in the $7000 was $1300
frightening. thank you for helping others thru your experience! my son’s back surgery was pushed .. similar circumstances.. so far no surgery consent.. drs and hospitals earn $ regardless of patient results
I started keto a yr and a half ago and have lost 40 lb. I’m a 68 yr old female. Without meaning to, while watching this video it occurred to me, I slowly transitioned into more carnivore. My taste and desire for veg and fruit is almost non existent. I find I eat more meat, fish, than anything without even realizing it until some one asked me what I eat in a day as they wanted to know how I lost the weight! I do still eat Swiss cheese as it’s a favorite of mine. Triglycerides dropped almost 200 pts to 76, A1C perfect, HDL 59, LDL 180 or so. Thanks for all you share.

@@groovy-momma418 It's not your fault!!. we've been programmed to believe certain foods are "bad" and others will "cure you". That we need to be thin to be healthy. That we need to never eat sugar (aka carbs) because we are addicts, ,that we need to fast, and on, and on... Think of food as a way to nourish your body. Try a more balanced approach. You may be surprised how well you feel.

Love both of your content. I Think Dr Cywes answered my question of why I am gaining weight 2 months into carnivore. I was 7 months of Keto IF and some prolonged fasting just b4 that. I'm eating over 3 pounds of steak daily for the last 2 months. You can get too much of a good thing. If I eat til I'm stuffed I will over eat every time. I think my full signals are broken after decades of carb abuse and insulin resistance. I'm going to cut my portions down and add fasting back into the mix. I'm 50 hours into a fast right now
Thanks guys for being so honest about possible shortcomings in long term LCHF diets and suggesting it’s not wise to put the Pancreas out of service to the extent of no longer processing sugar. Guess this makes sense when you have to understand the Pancreas is there for a reason. The more you know about something, the less you realize you know about it.
Following the proper human diet for a while and feeling so good. I think Carbohydrates and sugar are substrates for cancer cells formation. No more for me . I also agree that for long term nutrition . No need to exaggerate on fattening the food portions. Just stay away from sugar and carbs. My own life experience .

I had a fabulous Dr in Fl and she had me get blood work and it turned out to be39 vials! All she said was “go on gluten free”… your bloodwork is fine! I was 79 then and 82 now. Still no meds! I’m truly blessed! 🙏

Great video !!!! I’m a or was 100% a ketovore. I was eating only fatty meat. For 2 years. I felt great! However, I noticed my Hba1c creeping up. Also, my fasting blood sugars. From around 80 to 100 in the morning… I added blue, black , rass, and strawberries to my diet for dinner. It’s made a huge difference. In fast for 16 hours. For lunch I eat a pure fatty carnivore meal for lunch. Go to the gym with a ketone level at around 1.0-1.5. That’s when I’m at my best for a workout. For dinner I’ve been eating leaner meat plus the addition of Low glycemic index fruits. That has been the ticket for me!!!! Fasting blood sugars trending down. My last hemoglobin A-1 C was 4.9. The thing Is right around lunch I’m back in ketosis. knock myself out before bedtime with the fruit. But it’s so easy to get back into ketosis for me. Metabolic flexibility is the key. The natural carbs helps me sleep as well. I believe you were discussing this guy‘s blood sugar the first patient. that’s also physiologic insulin resistance. I don’t know if that’s bad or not. I don’t think we know that yet. However, being metabolically flexible just makes more sense.

Firstly, I'm enjoying these collaboration videos between you two. Now, I wonder how much pressure the first Dr you spoke about is under to cover his @ss for legal reasons? I started keto in September of 2020 and went mostly carnivore around the beginning of 2021. Some time later I added intermittent fasting, but my energy level was so high that I wound up breaking a couple ribs while pressure washing the metal roof on my house. While at my Dr's clinin(kaiser) I mentioned I was doing keto and was concerned about cholesterol. His first response was, no problem, we'll check your numbers. His second response was " carbs are terrible " and then when I told him about the fasting, I couldn't shut him up! It was like I had a whole new relationship with my Dr. This year I'm cutting out cheese and no longer adding fat to my food. I'll still fry eggs in butter, but for the most part I'm just eating the meat and eggs and fish.

Long story short. 46y/o F, peri menopausal, DX gestational dm 10 years ago, type 2, thereafter despite BMI being in normal range all my life. 5 years since start of keto. Healed type 2 within months! Developed iron deficiency replaced low carb veg with red meat (90% carnivore), healed both type 2 and iorn deficiency, regulated abnormal bleeding with diet. However, it has been 13 months (since carnivore) and now my blood work is looking just like Dr. C said! Thanks for giving a good explaination! No one else has even dared give a hypothesis! Maybe I've healed enough it's time for PSMF and small amounts of cyclic whole food carbs! Yeah! Another N=1experiment to try.
Processed and packaged “keto foods. Followed by too much fat are the most common problem I have seen in the keto & carnivore community over the past 9 years of doing it. Started off that way myself. I am glad you are starting to question the high fat therapeutic ketogenic diet because that’s exactly the issue that i see. It’s an amazing place to start to break addiction but then stops giving us much benefit quickly after that. Scaling back on fat we eat to take off excess bodyfat both adipose and fat in our organs. Have helped quite a few people reverse t2d this way.

Dr.s what a great video! I have said this to the women I serve that "keto is a therapy". Keto is a therapy that I educate and support pregnant women through even postpartum. Some women can handle the whole food approach and still be lower carb without any issues. Some people can handle a ketogenic lifestyle too. It's fascinating what differences there are and trying to discover that one key difference or multiple key difference is interesting to say the least. All in all the problem isn't going to be in will 1 cup of blueberries everyday be detrimental to my health but going in and out of a keto cycle a few times a year to clean for microphage. If you are obese getting on keto for a food addiction therapy is necessary and effective. Atkins knew it. Thanks for the great content been watching for years.

I feel it comes at the right time for me because i've been carnivore for a year now, and i've been thinking of adding a few low carb veg/fruit back into my way of eating - if only every so often (as in 1x a day or every other day) I like Carnivore very very much. My T2 Diabetes is gone, high blood pressure gone and the list goes on of all of the maladies that are now gone. However, I am not close minded and enjoy learning about ways to keep tweaking things for my way of eating. Thank you both so very much for this information.

This is an excellent discussion on why Proper Human Diet is the correct term. Metabolic health at the individual level should be determined through curiosity rather than dogma. The elimination process is so important to discover your metabolic “sweet point” (pun intended) for the individual. We see the spectrum publicly with Lion diet (M.P. And her autoimmune symptoms) and ketogenic/ketovore (N.B.) as a young mother. As a retired physician, I really appreciate this debate. Day 54 on keto and day 40 on Carnivore for me. Still a lot to learn on my personal journey. I really appreciate the years of experience available through these veterans.
The high A1C keto patient is like me. Bet he has a lot of morning gluconeogenesis. Dr Ali (my doc) is thinking an insulin resistant person can have trouble with too much dietary fat. It winds up in the liver because chylomicrons dont empty. He has a great video on this. Sounds like Dr C and Dr B are thinking the same thing. They should all get together. I tried reducing fat with PSMF with great results.
This video is incredibly interesting. In the wild, Caucasian hunter gatherers in the northern hemisphere would have likely eaten wild berries in the fall and used insulin to fatten up for winter. Perhaps this seasonal insulin response is healthier.
I’ve cut back on fat. As a friend told me years ago, “if you’re overweight, you should be burning body fat.” I’m still overweight. I don’t always eat all the fat on my fatty beef, I no longer put cream in my coffee or butter on my steak, and I now rarely drink hot chocolate the way I used to, which meant an ounce of bitter chocolate and some heavy cream and sucralose… I’m glad that this is back up. Originally it was part of a much longer conversation that’s been removed but has now been reposted in chunks.
You two are great! I am so tired of doctors with closed minds in looking at bloodwork. Interesting that maybe start with high fat, moderate protein, low carb, but maybe later on needing to lower fat somewhat.

33 weeks into my new lifestyle, and I am now at 12% body fat. To finish off the last 2 and get to 10% body fat, I am now increasing protein while reducing fat, which not only helps to mobilize that 2% body fat, but also delivers the results from my workouts, 99% of which are weight lifting. I initially began it as PSMF, but have now settled more on ketovore, where the carnivore side is slowly becoming more dominant. Great discussion, with the world's best two, as always!
I am so glad you addressed this issue. I am insulin resistant and have followed a low carb, keto diet off on one for some time. A year ago, I stuck to Keto 100% and fixes my metabolic rate. I then went to carnivore and a nutritionist suggested I add fat to everything to lower protein. My health went backward Weight gain, Cholesterol up Fatty Liver, and high cortisol levels. I have lowered my fat intake, added some veg to diet, fast in the morning, walk and BINGO WEIGHT is down.

Patient One. Pleased to hear this commentary. Since finding out I was on the 1st rung of pre-diabetes I went from being careful with carbs to pretty much eliminating them, making occasional exceptions for blueberries and a bun on Saturdays at my mothers just to keep her quiet. In the 1st six months my A1C score climbed to the next level - disappointing & disempowering. I have practiced time restricted feeding for some years and other indications suggest that I am insulin sensitive. Unfortunately the UK public health system will not test insulin and I can't find a private practice to check this either, so stuffmbling in the dark

This is sooooo interesting ! I follow so long those beautiful enthusiastic doctors who look much much further than what they learnt in high school/Universaty. I am doing keto and fasting for a while, I am buying grassfed beef, taking Magnesium Citrate, K2 D3, Omega3. To make it as short as possible... my question : I went to my doctor for my bloodwork because I want to know if I am doing good and not waisting my time and life, and as dr. Cywes states, I believe she does not read it correctly and totally. She said : everything is good, no diabetes, no high sugar (my mother is diabetes), the good cholesterol (HDL ?) is good, I only have to keep an eye on my bad cholesterol which is a bit to high. I was so flabbergasted. Because I thought this was really bad. And she did not mention anything at all about insuline sensitive or resistance, minerals, vitamins, electrolites. I wanted a complete info, even when I asked especially for it, she does not provide, she even reacts strange about all my questions. I am very disappointed, in health care for sure. F.e. my mother keeps injecting insuline, it is only getting worse. But she does not want to hear about fasting or eating healthy etc... but that's another story. But to come back to me, now I learn from dr. Cywes that high LDL is a good/normal thing when you are insuline sensitive, which I "assume" I am. I which I knew a good honest doctor here in Belgium who takes care of the bloodwork seriously and completely...😢 Thank you all for your extremely good work and enthusiasm, it is so appreciated !!!
Yes, exactly!! There is a NEED for "some" carbs. Yes all things have limits. Been saying this for years. No one size fits all. Dr. Ted follows as do I many bodybuilders and athletes who eat carbs but are very healthy. Same with Dr. Saladino. Same with Dr. Robert Lustig.... Many many of us mix in some whole food carbs with many patients. The key, repeat the KEY is periodization of eating and the matching of the eating phases to the patients present health status / phases and activity levels, sleep, stress, age, race,... I have performed a lot of studies on prisoners held in third world countries, meaning there was not cheating, perfect controlled test, locked in a cell. One example, We know if the person is prediabetic (not type 1 of course) and obese at 30+ % body fat a cupcake diet will improve their health markers but as soon as the person hits about 18% body fat or less and low to no activity, the cupcake diet will destroy health. Same holds true as there are math model and examples for when carnivore, keto, vegan, vegetarian, balance.. can have deleterious effects to health...diet has to be matched to the person and matched to health status, activity levels....and lastly we have to treat the person. We all have those patients who refuse to eat meat / eggs.... Awesome conversation!!! Best conversation on opening up the parameters and taking in the human condition.
I like Dr Westmans approach; 20 or less carbs a day, eat meat/protein (that includes whatever fat comes with it) until full and add no more than 6 tablespoons of oil/fat per day. He says this will work for everyone. I wonder where this fits into high/low fat category? I know this is less fat than I was eating on my past standard American diet!

I tried higher fat and did gain but did not lose, now i have added small amount of carb pulling away from carnivore, and now i actually dropped a 1 lb after 12 mos of trying 😊 Dr. Berry I'm ketovore now eggs salsa cheese--breakfast, yogurt (sugar free greek0 and fish, meat or chicken all before 6pm
Usually 4-6 months of keto the microbiome has changed. I think its fair to say that about 4 months it's good to cycle back to a bit of carb (whole food) then cycle back to ketosis so that element of going insulin resistant from low carb doesn't happen. 4 months back on and 4 months off. With my pregnant women I suggest they have at least a couple weeks off (not full blown eat junk) That's a timing hypothesis like Dr. Cywes was suggesting.
I appreciate you both truly following the science and not trying to gloss over things to make the data always point in your favor...there definitely are still mysteries to figure out and I've never seen anything in life where every piece fits neatly into all one box. We just bought a portion of a whole 100% grass fed cow. It is quite lean. We are eating other meats that are more fatty, but it will be interesting to see if the decrease in over all fat helps with our weight loss and improvement in A1c. I’m also going to try not putting butter in my coffee, and adding other fats. As a former scientist, I’m into experimentation . Love you guys!
I would be inclined to guess that after our body regulates from eating keto or carnivore and we learn to better obey the things our body tells us that we should eat what we think we need. Our ancestors did not have access to all these tests and yet they knew how to eat. I am doubtful I can ever have a carb again without going off into addiction, but I'm glad for you people who may be able at some point to add some carbs back into your life. Interesting discussion. Wow, this is interesting. I've had full success in reversing metabolic syndrome with a Low Carb High Fat lifestyle with intermittent fasting. I'm near carnivore but when I eat out at my local Turkish restaurant I "treat" myself to Olives and order a selection of meat dishes from the starter menu which come with a salad garnish. However I have two weaknesses. Being a gregarious Brit I'm found in the pub at weekends drinking beer by the pint. This leads on to my second weakness - Crisps (potato chips). I wonder if these two perceived "weaknesses" are in fact an accidental "strength". A pint of the British lager Carling contains 8g of carbs per pint. A 25g packet of Crisps contains about 13g of carbs. So I might consume an unnecessary 150g of carbs over the course of a weekend. This obviously causes an insulin spike and keeps the pancreas awake. I then do a 36 hour fast between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning. Seems to work for me as I've lost 25% of my body weight, wiped out my triglycerides and reversed type 2 diabetes. I really enjoy when practitioners like you 2 get together to further understanding and making new discoveries. My take on this is that Normally in mid latitudes High carb foods are locally available late summer to early winter. (approx 4 months) & low carbs availability for around 8 months. Those High carbs makes us put on fat just before winter sets in and gives us a warm blanket and a clean and efficient burning fuel to get us through winter and "clean out the kitchen". So following a cyclic pattern of 2:1 low carb:High carb will allow us to be flexible to switch between Fat Burning and carb burning without the body loosing touch with either metabolic state. This for me will keep our fat burning metabolism and our carb burning metabolism active and healthy as long as we only eat REAL FOOD.
2 years on keto. 65 pounds lost. I'd like to lose another 15. Went to OMAD. So many of us are dealing with doctors who want to put us on intravenous statins and low fat diets. I used to not be able to twist off a cap from a water bottle, or climb stairs. I'm off of ALL MY MEDS AND FEEL GREAT. The only thing I'm not off of is eylea shots for macular degeneration although my sight is better. My eye doc says it's because of the shots. I'm not sure. I wish you would find an eye doctor to talk to about keto.

Fascinating discussion between two of my favorite low carb docs. I suspect this topic is becoming the forefront of where the low carb community will be evolving as more information and data become available.
I have a suggestion. Chris Masterjohn says that fatty liver is actually a choline deficiency, and that the more fat you eat the more choline you need. Choline is plentiful in egg yolks and liver. Could the guy with the good bloodwork be eating more liver & egg yolk?
That was such a great discussion and insight into the outcome of a Ketovore diet being measured over a good solid period of time (10 years) using the lab tests for reporting. So for me it just reinforces the pros for LCHF/ PHD which basically rectifies obesity and diabetes and the cons are that without adjusting the macros when these conditions have been rectified may/will not trigger an insulin spike when required. 👍

Loved this. This is the third time I’m transitioning to ketovore/carnivore for a few reasons. First is for health and weight management. In the past I’ve lost about 7 lbs and then stalled. I have about 10 pounds additional to lose so I’m not terribly overweight. I’m wondering if I’m eating to much fat. How long is the “therapeutic” phase & should I concentrate on more lean days? I’m 60, on synthroid and relatively active. I regularly do moderate exercise.
I eat low carb and fast 18 hours most days. But I don't chase ketones or obsess about getting some carbohydrates occasionally. The proper human diet stuff sounds very interesting. But I would definitely think carefully about distinct dietary adaptations in different human populations, inuits, maasai and (pick a historically agrarian grain based culture) have very distinct genetic adaptations..
I appreciate getting real life examples, so this is a good video. But doctor Cywes really needs to get some kind of chart or comparison table to present all the test results, because rattling off so many numbers verbally is impossible for me to follow the thread. I am just learning. Is it possible to maybe use the same interview but cut in some tables or charts while Dr Cywes is talking? It would make this video hugely more understandable.
You are both super good people... But one of you needs to learn to listen more often and let the other finish talking completely... Then it would be much nicer to listen to the conversations... Thank you for addressing this Issue, I am a LMHR . I just had blood work done and my doctor wants to put me on a low dose statin, which I refused. I plan on experimenting and adding whole food carbs back into my diet starting approximately eight to ten weeks before my next blood work.
I'm a bit late to this party, it's been well over a year. This was a fascinating conversation which follows up my viewing of Dr. Cwyes' video on too much protein done about the same time as this one. Anyway, I hear some gears turning in this video but it's interesting to me that I haven't seen much movement from either from then to now. What's new on this front, doctors?
Yes, I’d love to hear more about this too! I think this discussion describes my current situation. While my recent blood work markers are still in the optimal range, fasting blood glucose & A1C are starting to inch upwards towards the line to pre-diabetic. This video explains what’s going on is my pancreas is likely going on hiatus. I’ll start including some of the carbs he mentions into my ultra-low carb diet. Hopefully, I can find more info from them somewhere else on this subject.
@@tarantulady8565 Keep those carbs below 35, which should give your Pancreas something to work on, and maintain an 18 to 23+ hour fasting window. Don't worry about those labs, they'll vary...look for a trend and your doctor's frown. I don't think you're going to have a problem. Search RU-vid for 'carnivore diet insulin resistance' videos.

I’m glad you brought up the issue with your two patients and the long term effects of fat adaptation. It’s different for everyone I’m sure and especially if you’re of an advanced age. I don’t concentrate on anything except I just eat meat. Only time I use a little butter or something is when I’m eating something that needs it for taste and to keep from being dry although I mostly like a fair amount of fatty meat anyway…
Just thinking this through a bit and tending to pick up the points I think. One of the issues of the post 50’s diet is that we do this almost autumnal diet every day. This of course is bad news for all the obvious carb related reasons, but has an advantage to ‘fatten up’ pre winter traditionally pre agricultural times. Then we try a unnaturally supplemented high fat diet, and as we do, get carried away! . Maybe not enough time yet to see the bad effects but probably will be long term but good to wean off the carb based diet. If we just eat the meat as it comes, so in Autumn animals will be fatter, in other times leaner, then eating carnivore as it comes with its seasonal variation is i guess how we are designed to eat I guess good quality head to toe seasonal animal nutrition with a smattering of accompanying natural tasty leaves, nuts and maybe some roots are the way forward for our nutrition. Thanks and this is what I am picking up here from the excellant discussion. I love the PHDiet. Have noticed too many gin and tonics drive up the trigs so i am on resolving that little personal issue now!!!
