Wow! That was seriously high energy. Japanese bands seem to be able to assimilate pop culture from around the world and mix it all together and make it their own. It gave me vibes here and there of a late 80's early 90's band just long enough to notice before it got all chunkified and thrashy. Pretty cool, and the drumming was on point.

There's tape kicking around out there of Yoyoka and Tamu doing a promotional performance/ drum clinic for some electronic drum kit. I am old but I'm pretty sure Yoyoka performed with Nemophila at the all female festival mentioned here in the comments. They played a severely truncated Moby Dick. She is a magnificent drummer. Nemophila is a supergroup-talent for miles!

Nice reaction, thank you! Tamu is an _amazing_ lady. My personal favourite drummers: Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Daniel Löble (Helloween), Haruna (Lovebites) and Tamu. All of them amazingly skilled, versatile in terms of genres, therefore top class.

As well as a superb drummer, Tamu has a smile that lights up adjacent suburbs! I'm gonna throw this in - now you're hearing Tamu, several voices have already recommended Haruna of Lovebites, so - Akane Hirose of Band-Maid. They have quite a variety of music and she does all of it justice. Initially I think you need to hear "Freedom" live performance at Shibuya on February 14, 2020 that includes a rare drum solo in the middle with a magnificent following transition. Akane (ah-KAH-neh) always shines, but that one is special.

There is actually a video of Murata Tamu doing a drum-off with Senri--you will love that. Some background on the band: Nemophil-a (NOT “Nemophil-i-a) are one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and blew up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” They are a supergroup composed of: ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu (founded the band) ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu (she is also in high demand for session work) Until April 2024, they were a 5-piece band. The fifth member, and actually the band-leader until she left, was ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki, arguably one of the top metal guitarists in the world. It remains to be seen as of this writing what directions the band and Saki, respectively, will take. Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Its been a while someone specifically ask for Tamu's information and I haven't post about any of NEMOPHILA's individual member details for quite a long time to avoid information overload 😅. However, since you asked with great interest and curiosity, here goes... Known as the smiling drums goddess, Ai Murata (stage name: Murata Tamu, or Tamu for short) is a powerful and established professional solo drummer. She started as jazz drummer in 2007 at the early age of 15 and received guidance from a very well established session drummer, Masahiko Noguchi at Saila Drum School, Yokohama, Japan. Now she is also a lecturer/instructor at Saila. She is on top of her game as a support drummer and one of the most sought-after drummers for fill-in role in Japan for many years. Tamu continue her drumming activities after graduated from high school and in 2013 she launched her own RU-vid channel Murata Tamu (by June 2022 it gained close to 65 millions views). That same year, she joined all girls rock band SORAMIMI. She graduate from university in 2015, the same year she was awarded as the best female drummer in the voting project My Goddess 2015 (and did it again in 2017) by BEEAST - Living with Rock, Lifestyle Support Magazine. She signed her first endorsement contract with TAMA Drums in 2016. SORAMIMI suspended in 2017 and from then on, her professional carrier in solo drumming started to picked-up drastically. In January 2017, she released a self-produced DVD 'Murata Tamu's Hyper Drum Training and later made her debut in solo live performance in February at TSUTAYA O-Crest live music venue (it was a sold-out venue.) In April 2017, she joined a project led by Takeshi Kuramochi and Daisuke Kurosawa for INSPION Inc., a corporate sound production company providing music for games and TV programs. She is one of the prominent support drummer in Guitar Girls Collection project co-organized by SAKI of Mary's Blood (NEMOPHILA guitarist, who just left the band few weeks ago). She is also the drummer support for idol group The World Standard (WASUTA), Nanase Aikawa, Rie a.k.a Suzaku and many other successful artists. Tamu was very active with drums seminars (organized by TAMA Japan) at vocational schools and musical instrument stores; and Drum Clinic Tour in China. In August 2017, she launched a RU-vid channel Tamu Zukan where she invite, learn and explore other drummers' skill set as well as various musical instruments. In January 2018, Tama Drumsticks H-TMTM, Murata Tamu signature model hits the market. In March, she appeared in Naka-Kon 2018 (Kansas City, USA) - an annual convention celebrating anime, manga, cosplay, music, fashion and gaming. Tamu was invited as a guest drummer and performed at the event, a gesture of recognition and appreciation for her contribution to the industries under the INSPION banner. She held another live concert at TSUTAYA O-West in May 2018 to commemorate the release of her double-sided A-side single "Super D & D-Completely Lead I'm Me / D Absolutely! SAMURAI in the Rain" featuring Ladybeard - former vocalist of Deadlift Lolita and Ladybaby, now a lead vocalist of BABYBEARD. In mid 2018, she held her 5th installment of her solo live concerts at two venues, OSAKA MUSE and Shibuya WWW-X celebrating her entering into 10 years of professional drumming. By 2019, she already had 6 live solo concerts under her belt with the latest one was held in January at TSUTAYA O-West. In August 2019, she was invited to perform in Mayu Session band by vocalist, mayu. Mayu contacted her long time friend, a locally well-known live show support bassist Haraguchi-san (who is prominent in 5-strings bass) to join them and later recruited SAKI (MARY'S BLOOD guitarist that time, ex-Destrose, 7-strings guitarist, KILLER Guitars endorser) through mutual friend to play guitar. SAKI then introduced Hazuki (DISQUALIA guitarist, Ibanez endorser) to the rest of the band since Disqualia activities was put on hold and Hazuki that time was a support guitarist for RAMI and Li-sa-X. Hazuki is now also a permanent member of a band KOIAI alongside Li-sa-X. Hazuki started picking up on 7-strings during this period and shortly after felt that she didn't have enough strings taking on her 6-strings guitar! Mayu Session band performed at live venue and they hits off immediately eventhough its the first time they played together on stage and some members didn't know each other before. They had lots of fun together and thought this is what they are looking for individually - technical superiority asides, a tight band and fun friends. After that one session ended they decided to stay together and make their quintet permanent, which is now known as NEMOPHILA. In September 2019, she announced in her social media "I became a drummer of NEMOPHILA. Thanking you in advance. I'm glad I met some nice friends and I'll hit them with my soul." ...and she did hit them hard as the band grew tighter every day, in line with the growth of their local and international fan base. In October 2019, Tamu signed another endorsement contract with MEINL cymbals. SAKI, the composer for Mary's Blood said that she and the composer team write songs for NEMOPHILA and pass the midi to other members for input but Tamu, being the most experienced member of the band write the drums notations by herself. Entering 2020, NEMOPHILA announced Japan tour schedule for that year but eventually cancelled due to the pandemic. They managed to perform one show in February 2020 at Shibuya REX not featuring all band members because Tamu was on maternity leave. Tamu had always been called up to fill in for drummers' absence but in her absence, NEMOPHILA called-in the legendary drummer Miki 'mittan' Tsunoda of SHOW-YA (one of the best-selling Japanese metal bands in history) who was more than happy to make an appearance that day covering for Tamu. While in lockdown, mittan also seen paying respect to Tamu during her time-off giving birth. Mittan appeared in NEMOPHILA line ups again supporting them covering two SHOW-YA songs, taking the drummer's place while honouring Tamu by wearing the frog t-shirt which is Tamu's trademark shirt. Another legendary drummer did the same was Kyoko Tomita of Princess Princess (all-female rock band, known for their 7th single 'Diamonds' - first ever single in Japan that hits over millions sales) while NEMOPHILA did their cover song. A respect from legendary Japanese drummers really shows how massive Tamu's reputation is in drummers community. She played in Roland/BOSS Players Summit 2020 to wrap up Roland's Junior Drums Competition in which she was one of the judges that time. In 2021, she took part in NAONのYAON as NEMOPHILA drummer. Gacharic Spin also took part in that event but their drummer Yuri was on maternity leave. Levin, the drummer of La'cryma Christi was covering Yuri's place that time but since NAONのYAON is dedicated to only female artists, Levin was not permitted to play. Therefore, Tamu filled in for Yuri and was seen reading the music sheets for the entire performance. That was not the first time Tamu supporting Gacharic Spin. Back in 2018 during Gacharic Spin tour, Tomo-zo (guitar) was hospitalized due to an accident so Hana (drums & vocal that time, now Hana is guitar & vocal) took over Tomo-zo's role and Tamu was called in to cover for Hana's seat. Gacharic Spin could pick any session guitarist to cover for Tomo-zo but it seemed they prefer Tamu to stepped in for Hana who was covering for Tomo-zo. That again shows how reliable Tamu's drumming skills is and how thoughtful she is for answering emergency request in such short notice. She is a humble and lovely person who always look after the band members as her own little sisters especially her rhythmic partner Haraguchi-san. During an interview after the January 2022 show, Haraguchi-san said she looked up to Tamu as a mother figure, and Tamu amusingly accepted her role being a mother of NEMOPHILA. She is a mother of two daughters and the band members always looking up to her as their senior. Mayu during the announcement of her marriage in live streaming addressed Tamu as Mama Senpai. As stated, Tamu Murata was one of the most sought out session drummers in Tokyo even before joining Nemophila. She has worked on projects that range from pop, jazz, prog and punk. Tamu has also been a drum instructor, toured Asia performing clinics for her sponsor Tama, and hosted a drumming based program where in one of the episode she has a "drum off" with Senri Kawaguchi, learning Senri's track "Real Life". Tamu also plays classical piano, bass, guitar and sax and she cites Dave Lombardo, Mike Portnoy, Charlie Benante and Nao Kawakita of Maximum The Hormone as metal drummers she admires. Tamu Murata is wonderful talent with a beautiful spirit.

Nemophila and Band Maid I feel are the best two current rock bands on the planet. Two different styles but the musicianship for both bands is off the chart !!!! And world class drumming

NEMOPHILA are one of the best Metal bands I’ve ever heard, and certainly among the best Metal bands from Japan. I was at that show in LA, their first, but not only, visit to the U.S.! (If you are not familiar with the storied Whisky A-Go-Go, hit up Wikipedia) MURATA TAMU is a fantastic, powerful Metal drummer, veteran musician, mother of two and still has a baby face. Tamu is one of the best drummers out of Japan PERIOD! Nemophila as a band is one of the best out of japan. Great drummer great band. You want to hear more of this great band with her great drumming try Adabana, Oiran Live and Hypnosis. Many more amazing songs they have also have done some amazing covers. I see you have a Iron Maiden shirt on. Nemophila has done covers of The Trooper and Aces High. Damn good covers too. Some years ago I was looking at Tamu's RU-vid videos. She was young then. Had a fantastic smile. And had a great feet work. Of course, also good hand work. But feet is her super power. Eventually I started to look at Babymetal and other (more or less) female Japanese bands. Also other female Japanese drummers, such as Senri and Yoyoka and Kanade and Junna. Then I found out about Nemophila ... that had Tamu as a drummer. It was early, and they had almost only Dissention and Revive as original songs. But, they had a load of covers. And I listened to them all. The covers they had made for fun. And, for some reason, they made good videos of them. Nemophila has never been a cover band on stage. Anyhow, as Tamu is a professional session drummer she do never exaggerate her drumming in Nemophila. She plays what the song needs. So, if you want to see crazy stuff, you have to look at Tamu's own videos. And she do have crazy stuff. She is originally a progressive jazz drummer. Of course, Raitei has heavy drums, and then she plays heavy drums. She also tends to play more heavy live. Or maybe it is only the mix?

It was through Tamu that I fell in love with Nemophila. I still remember how surprised I was when I saw her behind the drums in the music video for REVIVE. I had listened to her before but never thought about the drummer. Another thing is that even though I liked Tamu as a drummer for a long time, I didn't know she was in a band... 😁

Tamu is awesome, been following her for several years, from prior to Nemophila forming. She's also a super-mom with two kids. Please do more NEMOPHILA. One of the guitarists (Saki) has unfortunately just left the band we don't know if she will be replaced or if the rest of the band will continue as a 4 piece. Try their song AMA-TE-RAS. Zen is their heaviest song and Tamu is basically just smashing the drums you might not like it. Rise is another song that you might like. Tamu has 2 young children and Mayu (the singer) has one small child..doesn't slow them down at all.
