Baard's just got this natural sense of creativity to how he plays. This song is just a tiny glimpse into his bag of tricks. He goes even wilder on many, many other Leprous tracks. One of the most seemingly effortlessly enjoyable drummers I know.
For sure, I think that's one of the things I'll always be envious of drummers like him, is that they can play amazingly well composed and technical music but make it look effortless!
Great video! I was lucky enough to get a drum lesson off him and he showed me some of the stuff in this song. You should check out the playthrough of “the sky is red”, it’s an amazing song and the drumming is absurdly good.
Also a guitar player here that recognize the importance of a good drummer, and once you've had the chance to play period of time with one magic things can happen. :D To me the difference between a good drummer and a great one, is that a good (or at least decent) one will help the band stay on track and keep the backbone of the track, but a great one adds to the track by treating his drums as an instrument rather than a very expensive and convoluted metronome. Drummers like Baard adds so much character to the track.
Everybody showcasing and reacting to Baard' talent deserves a praise. Here it is! It was a nice reaction with some insightful analysis at the end! You can definitely come back to Baard Kolstad at some point on your channel all his playthroughs are different, yet all mindblowing. I post here also a recommendation for your channel: Florent Marcadet - Treasure This Pain. Criminally underrated drummer from the criminally underrated band Hacride. Would be really interesting to see a reaction to it. :)
Oh hell yeah you need to follow Leprous if you're a drummer. Baard is one of a kind. He's incredibly technically sound, but he knows how to play to a song, and how to play drums to carry a song to a higher level. I deeply envy how effortless he makes it look, but he also always looks like he's so in to it. I've never seen a drummer have as much fun as he does. Check out his "Rewind" playthrough. Love your reaction style and I like that you're not super in to the technical side. I'm a casual drummer who only plays for fun every now and then, so this definitely appeals a bit more to my level.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you dig the video :) For sure, he's an amazing drummer and I'll definitely be reacting to more Baard/Leprous songs in the future!
I get frustrated when people keep pausing the videos, unless there's something important they need to say. Better to do the deeper analysis afterwards, otherwise you get drawn out of the songs experience and lose the emotion!
@@OwenAlec Awesome man, keep doing what you're doing. Your channel will grow a lot pretty soon when the algorithm gets on board, you've already got the production quality and have good content. Definitely take a look at The Sky is Red next as someone else suggested!
You have to do a Gavin Harrison reaction, he is just so tasty. Edit: unless you are doing newer/lesser well known prog drummers, then maybe you should look at Jay Postones from tesseract.
