Drummer reacts to "For the Love of God" (Live) by Steve Vai

It sounds like Zappa because Steve wasnt just a fan of Zappa he was his a member of the band Early music career (1978-1986) Steve Vai (on guitar in between the drums and keyboard, to the right), Frank Zappa and band during a concert at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York (October 25, 1980) In 1978, Vai sent both a notated transcription of Frank Zappa's "The Black Page", and a recording of his college band, Morning Thunder, to Zappa.[23][24] Impressed by this, Zappa responded by putting Vai on salary to transcribe his work, which included pieces from the Joe's Garage and Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar albums.[25] After leaving Berklee College of Music and moving to California, Vai auditioned[26] for and became a full-time member of Zappa's band, going on his first tour with Zappa in late 1980.[23] Zappa often referred to Vai as his "little Italian virtuoso",[27] and Vai is frequently listed in the liner notes of Zappa's albums as having performed "stunt" or "impossible" guitar parts.[28] Vai was a featured artist on the 1993 release Zappa's Universe, and in 2006, Vai appeared as a special guest on Dweezil Zappa's Zappa Plays Zappa tour; both projects won Vai a Grammy Award.[29] Theres a video on you tube Stevies spanking where Steve and Frank go at it backed up by the incredible band, Its a must see. Hi. Great reaction. Steve Vai recognizes how defining the years playing with Zappa were for him. He is a virtuoso who favors emotion and a excellent composer. My recomendation is to watch the "Tender Surrender" video. Hug from Brazil.

My favorite guitar instrumental of all time, all bands. All versions are great ! I hope you love it. I was so lucky to see him play this live, a few meters from the scene. A great memory. Not only is he one of the best guitar player, but what a composer !

The man cut his teeth in Zappa’s band, so kudos to the hilt. Back in the day there were two of us here in Norfolk UK (hi, Ronnie) covering this and Satch Boogie in the days when flash was important. Gods, we had some duels. Oh, to be young again.

Steve Vai, "Bad Horsie" is a must watch video. It is as "BAD-ASS" of a tune as you can get...! Must listen for all the "Horse Nay" sounds from the guitar picking.... "Steve's Spanking" is also a great tune of a young (20Y.O.) Steve screaming Guitar duet with Zappa.

Like Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Alex Skolnick of Testament, Larry LaLonde of Primus, and many others, Vai got his start taking lessons from Joe Satriani. When he was 18, and going to Berkley College of Music, Vai formed a relationship with Frank Zappa by first sending him some transcriptions of some of Frank's solos. Frank was impressed, but told Vai he had to wait till he was 20 before joining the band. After he did, Frank would call Vai his little Italian Virtuoso on the album covers, and say he played the "impossible guitar parts". Then Vai started his solo career, along with short stints with Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake. This song was originally on his big breakthrough album in 1990, so he's been one of the best for quite a while.

My first exposure to Steve was on Yankee Rose by David Lee Roth. I was at a cottage on the beach in Connecticut where a friend's band was playing at a party for about 10 of our friends. Before the band started playing, they had the local rock radio station playing through the PA and the song came on. I remember saying, "Who the hell is playing the guitar?" The guitar player said, "That's Steve Vai. He played in Alcatrazz (replaced Yngwie Malmsteen) and also played with Frank Zappa when he was 20." Like it was no big deal. He is my favorite guitar player, and you can't go wrong reacting to anything he's played. Look for Tender Surrender.

One of my most treasured CDs is one by Steve Vai, the guy seems to defy physics sometimes.

Give a listen to Miguel Montaban( utube) he is a busker and has a band and tour's . His guitar performances are something else. Im not a paying member , so maybe in your off line time. He is worth it !

Everybody always raves about this one, but I`ve seen Steve do much better performances of this song especially without the bum notes he gets in that no-one seems to notice.
