This video provides a summary and explanation of the dry/dropper rig often used in fly fishing. We focus more on how to rig and fish a dry/dropper in our Virginia small streams. Detailed is the our most common method of creating a dry/dropper rig, most common tippet sizes, leader length, advantages and disadvantages.
In the video we are using a sz. 10 Parachute Adams and a sz. 12 Pumpkin Prince Nymph. We most frequently use a 4x leader with the tippet piece between being 5x. The total leader length including the dropper is best around 7.5 - 8 foot on our small streams. The smaller the stream the smaller the leader.
If you have any questions leave them in the comments!

*I bought these and used them at the river where I get snags often they have done a **enjoyable.fishing** recommend great job of not breaking along with some strong line I purchased as well. They are super durable and easy to use.*

can you add tippet to the leader before your dry? would hate to cut off tip of leader, but wondering if you cant say use 5x to dry then 5x to dropper because of cast energy transfer. Thanks

Yes, but saying that. The more tippet= harder to cast

I missed a 20+ brown today on a green weenie my cousin made with a loop tail. I had no chance of landing it. I'm new and have no idea I'm doing wrong. If I was using my spinning reel, I would have no problems. I have a 9 foot 5 weight with 4x leader. It's such a huge learning curve and often get frustrated.

I have a question can I use this technique all year round or only certain time of the year?
@andrewkent6283
@andrewkent6283 Год назад
You definitely can use it year around, but it is most commonly used in mountain streams in the fall/spring. If you use it in winter, treat the dry fly mainly as an indicator. However, there are occasions (warm sunny days) where trout will still go for the dry, so it is nice to have an "indicator" with a hook in it. Cheers!

In case you've got a Barbless hook on your dry fly... Will you not lose your dropper? Or what to do for avoid losing it??? Thanks in advance

Tie the dropper through the eye of the dry fly. That’s what I do. Sometimes it’s hard to get two lines through the dry eye but it’s a good insurance policy

@@michaelbacile8439 I second this. Especially without barbs.
