This week we completed the Power station framing and got our Victron 3000W - 400AH battery system dry fit into ROAMR. Although this project took us way too much time to complete it came out super clean with a absolutely perfect fit.. Super excited for the day we get to set up the real products and plug it all in!!
Hope you enjoyed the video, please COMMENT AND LIKE below, maybe even Hit that subscribe button to follow along as we convert this Mercedes Sprinter van that we call ROAMR into a 4X4 Four Season Van in which we plan to travel the continent with.. You will see all the ups and downs to a full build as I share mistakes, wins and everything in between.
Thank you for watching and we will see you on the next video.

Finally! 1st vid I've seen where someone used a washer/pen for scribing! Learned that trick back in the 80 watching This Old Home. ;)

Hey Chief, I just picked myself up the Victron 3000w inverter charger. There is no option for it to become a DC 2 DC charger. I picked up a 60a sterling B2B. If you need pics or instructions from mine LMK.

Just discovered quad aluminum extrusion and found you and your build. I can relate to the sit and stare method : with my project, that old wisdom has been modified :: "Think about it. Then think about it again. Measure twice. Think it through -- again. Cut once." Has saved me tons of money and heartache. Those who are complaining about your speed of build have never built a project FROM SCRATCH. I am doubly impressed with people like you, who spend the time to take the extra step to produce and share their video documentation. THANK YOU!!
@DaresDrives
@DaresDrives 3 года назад
Perfect!! Yes the struggle is real, and you struck a point I never brought up yet and you are 100%... Sitting, staring, planning and triple measuring cuts down on wasted material in a huge way and is a massive cost saver on the completed project.. Super happy you are enjoying, thank you for watching and commenting.

Thanks for posting a fun series to watch and you’re the only content creator I actively check in with to see if you have new episodes. ( I don’t trust the bell I guess lol) I also appreciate the episode numbers so I can keep track of the process and reading the other subs comments.

Before you cut plywood take a razor knife and go over your line cutting that first layer. If you don't want that tear out
@DaresDrives
@DaresDrives 3 года назад
Yes that idea is a new one to me and I will give it a try.. That one edge you are seeing with the tear out is the factory edge on the sheet of plywood and although I should have cleaned it for video it will be full covered once we complete the edging and wall boarding moving forward.. Thank you for the great comment and watching the video!

Why not 24V battery arrangement? My campervan will get one and then there's MultiPlus II available with less standby power consumption even for 3kW model. Thinner battery cables, cheaper MPPT and so on. I've added Victron DC-DC for alternator charging and one for few 12V devices. Everything else is 24V, hydronic diesel heater, its air coil, compressor fridge...

Maybe set up a partition with screens/vents there? And put another vertical rail in the center. I'm thinking in case of catastrophe, collision, and some of that equipment (esp that inv/chg) tearing free and whacking you in the back of the noggin :(

@@DaresDrives thanks for your kind reply. I compared the list appearing in your video and the one I got from my Victron dealer. It's almost the same except that my dealer recommended me the MultiPlus II, VE.Bus BMS300200000 + GX LTE 4G with Active GPS antenna for the GX components, instead of the MultiPlus I, VE Bus Smart Dongle + Smart BMS C12/100 you listed. Maybe you could double check with your dealer and check out the differences to decide which one suits you best 😉 This Victron GX system (Cerbo, MultiPlus II and BMV712) already communicates with the batteries and whole system so I guess better to have Wifi than Bluetooth access to monitoring? Please let me know your views.

I have spoken to them and they have the parts ready, but..... ROAMR can't move anywhere until the project is complete. So the repair work is documented and will be completed on warranty once the build is finished.. Looks like our first trip together is going to be a 3.5hr drive to a neighboring city for warranty and recall work!! Sounds like fun, right!?. I did not understand how you are going to do without a DC to DC charger. In Canada 🇨🇦 you will not have enough sun to keep you powered up through the winter. Did you mean you just don’t need to build a cardboard box?
@DaresDrives
@DaresDrives 3 года назад
One of the features of this set up is a smart BMS that makes it capable of managing the charge from the alternator without needing a separate DC/DC charger box.. I did show the list of parts in this video, if you pause it you will be able to read what it is. More detail to come in video form, hopefully soon. Thank you for tuning in and commenting.
