The Dryad Killdeer Rock Climbing Harness. This video I go over the Dryad Killdeer Treestand Harness and show you what is included when you purchase the killdeer and what hunting out of a rock climbing harness looks like. I will also discuss the specification of the Dryad Killdeer, show you how I use this rock climbing harness when climbing up and down from the tree, and show you how I set it up when using my LWCG .5 Tree Stand to ensure that you are staying as safe as possible.
The Dryad Killdeer is the lightest treestand harness that I have ever used. Weighing in a 15oz, the Dryad Killdeer is a minimalistic tree stand harness and very simplistic. The design uses very few buckles, making it a very quiet treestand harness that is ideal for mobile hunting and those looking to sneak in close to deer bedding areas. You can also use this in conjunction with The Drey Saddle or Drey Hammock.
I ran the Dryad Killdeer as my main harness through the better part of the 2021 Michigan Deer Hunting Season, and this has since replaced my older Muddy Tree Stand Harness.

This is the first review of this system I’ve watched that really answered all of my questions about how it worked. Thank you

Lol thanks, man! Much appreciated. I just did a follow-up video on the killdeer a few weeks ago going over how I set it up for deer season this year.

Good review of the Dryad Killdeer. One thing for you to consider. Try putting your tether at head height, to the left side of the tree, and cinch it down. Now the weight of the rope will be pulling against itself keeping it in place. Then adjust the prusik so it is snug when sitting. That way the hunter can't fall below the seat. When the tether is at waist height, it tends to slide down easier as it did in the video and the hunter can fall further, which is going to be a little painful and may be harder to get back on the stand. Hope this helps. Hunt safe so you can hunt again.

Thank you for the positive feedback and the tip. I am going to try that and girth hitch the tether to the tree. That way I can change to the mini drey on the fly when I want to use the .5 as a saddle platform.

I know it’s been a while and you probably have your system down but I put my tether through the eye loop twice and synch it down. It keep the tether from falling but is lose enough for adjustment if you wanted to run your saddle. Just thought I’d throw that out. Great review I watched it probably 10 times before I purchased it. You should get commission! Haha. Be safe and good luck the rest of the year!

Wrap your tree tether around the tree twice, it will help hold it up and shorten it a litle bit.

Where the tag end of the rope sticks out of the rope that forms your loop on your tether tie a stopper knot just in case that figure knot that forms the loop slips

Thanks for the tip. I'll add that, but I'm constantly checking my ropes and knots before climbing.

Just got mine....wstch the slack you have behind you on tether less is best.
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors 2 года назад
I agree. I typically keep the opening on the side of the tree and that does a good job holding it tight to the tree. I was thinking of adding a another prusik knot to help out.

Is the sizing pretty spot on? For instance, I’m a 36 inch waist. Not sure if I should go medium or large.
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors

It's spot-on, but there is room for adjusting.

Can you just walk in with the harness and leg straps? Is it comfortable to walk in?
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors Год назад
I walk in with the harness on but not the leg straps. I just keep them in the little belt pouch and put them on before I climb up. The leg straps do hang down so I think it would be annoying but you could.

Is their any Molle straps built into the harness

@MichiganAmBushOutdoors Год назад
Yes. On the very top of the belt there is molle webbing.

How do you keep tension on your tree tether so it doesn't slide down?
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors
@MichiganAmBushOutdoors 2 года назад
Typically I position it on the side of the tree, which usually does the trick, but I might add another prusik knot to help.

I found an awesome way to keep your tether tight from a saddle RU-vid video. Before you run your tether around the tree you do this. Put your hand through the sewn eye and grab the rope and pull say six to eight inches through the eye and this will create a loop or eye. Now run your carabiner and prusik around the tree and put it through the new loop you made. This creates a girth hitch and your tether will not slide down the tree at all. It is amazing and once you try it you’ll be doing it that way forever guaranteed. Stay safe
