This video was exactly what I needed to finish setting up my first GPS module on my rig! Thanks so much for such a detailed video, you really explained everything someone needs to achieve this install. Being new to this I tried and ended up soldering the tx to tx on the board and rx to rx on the board, noob mistake of course but I am new to all this and still learning the ropes so thanks again.

Thanks Tim :) I think these gps modules were available for some time now but I just got to learning about them as well. I don't think it was a popular device since racer / freestyle quads really didn't need a gps unit but with long distance racers becoming popular now a days, it is something to think about :) Just to see how fast the thing goes it is fun to have :) 🍺🍺😀

on my gps betaflight i cant seem t get the mode light to light up when i hit the switch every other light works but that one i do have the icon gps working and everything set up right but when i flip it to on nothing no light

Why always set fly mode to stab everytime you test Rescue mode? Activating Rescue mode (by switch) will automatically set fly mode to stab rite ? I wanna be able to arming & fly without having to wait the min. sats fulfilled, so I set gps_rescue_min_sats = 0. are there any bad things will happening during flight? (of course I won't be able to use rescue mode)

I got a huge delay/lag/latency of about 5-7 seconds before the gps-data is updated on the OSD. Any ideas?

Question! Wondering if let's say you crash, then turtle mode to an upright position, arm the quad, then flip the GPS on, will it take off, rise, then RTH? Or does it have to be airborne? Thanks for showing us this, have NEVER seen a review of a GPS module!

Can you set 'rescue' to return when the battery reach a specific depleted level? Secondly, can you record in you goggles the GPS data or later review?

You can record GPS and OSD data if your groundstation or fpv googles has a DVR. What you see is what you get which let's you see the last transmitted lat and lon recorded by the DVR to start searching for a downed drone.

For the price its worth having one on every quad you own! Could the altitude shown be your height above sea level rather than height above your current terrain?

Yes it is. Once in a great while, you do loose video flying about and a flick of a switch will save you. I don't think it is sea level since the first run was a correct value.

Scooter Pie Not after I’ve upgraded betaflight to 3.5.1,,,,,I wanted GPS rescue but I had 3.3.1 I believe when I first installed the GPS module and that version of betaflight had GPS hold.

Your G730L 'deserves' one for sure LOL! I added one to mine, but when I flicked the switch, the quad fell out the sky. Do I need to set the failsafe to something different on the TX Pete? Or is there something else I've forgot to do. All set up, enough SATs found, Long, Lat etc all in goggles.... Cheers

Yes, I'll definitely put one on the G730L :) The only thing is the XM+ has way more distance than the temeletry receivers so that's a bummer! Fell out the sky? ??! Don't know the answer to that one...I do have my tx failsafe not set and I do have failsafe throttle on hold in betaflight also. I don't know if that has anything to do with the gps module but worth a try?

With other Drones, for example, Phantom 3, before I take off I need to do compass calibration for home point set (home lock). In this video did you take off without doing compass calibration so does it automatically do home point set?

hover mean GPS Altitude Hold, till now is not available in Betaflight, but yes in INAV

FYI, Your MAX ALTITUDE on flight stats was when you were doing rolls and flips, the GPS bounced signal off of cloud in the sky!!! If you had compass also, it wouldn't do that.

8:48 gps rescue descent dist = 200. just confused here, so does it mean it will descend at 200 metres or after 200 metres doesn't the Gps do a cover rescue.

It is capable but betaflight does not have those functions added in. However, someone just alerted me to setting up failsafe in the cli :)

I cant use this without using my receiver? All I need this for is Airspeed for my Avios 1450mm Spitfire. My set up is to power my Betaflight F4 from the balance lead of my 6s , also using my 6s 22.2v to power my VTX and 5v pin on the FC to power my Runcam Mini Split 2 and I have the BN-220 wired in how it should be, I cant get any UARTS to work?? I've tried all three of the UARTS I can use but when i reboot it doesn't save, I've tried different versions of BF but you say I need receiver signal to make this work? How can I wire into my receiver to work? Is there a way to get it to work? Can I splice off one of my signal wires from my receiver?? I do have a telemetry on my receiver.. Or do I need to use the Matek ASPD-7002 & Matek FC F722wing to make this work the way I want it to. I really would like to stay away from modifying my wing to make the pitot tube work

You need a telemetry receiver like the xsr or rxsr. F4 boards do not have inverted signal on any uarts so you need to soft serial one of the tx uart. Type in resources in the cli prompt and change the tx uart to soft serial. tx11 = soft serial 1

Do you know the GPS (BN-220)? I just can't find satellites. On the laptop in Betaflight 2-3 satellites and at the same time it shows 0 satellites in the OSD. I was outside in the garden .. Half an hour but no satellite ... nothing. The GPS has a clear view upwards: /

i hook everything up like the videos and i have no indicator light or icon light reading the gps signal but i allowed me to set the uarts also it wont arm with 8 sat on and when it does arm i take it up and hit the RTH it shut down everything and falls out the sky.. can you help

When you hit the return to home switch, you must be more than the distance you have set for the return to home. If it is set to 200 meters, you need to go farther than 200 meters and switch on the rth for it to work.

i saw saw this but i forgot to say i have more then i fix the part where i rewired it and got the icon light on but have not tried the 200 meters away yet due to fear of it falling out the sky but now i got everything working but switch mode one one of my drones it works and the other one it dont however i due have gps icon light on letting me know its working got it set to gps rescue but no yellow in modes hmmmmmany ideas

LONG and LAT might come in handy if you lose it and have DVR so you can just put it in your phone and go find within 2 metres

yes it will rth while you are flying in acro but it returns in angle mode. So, when you switch back, you will resume in acro.

I got one of these a while ago. Worked for one battery. Ever after that, lights flash blue on the GPS, Betaflight thinks it has a GPS unit, the little yellow GPS icon is lit up, but it always gives me zero sats. I thought it was a fault with the GPS unit, so I got another one. Exactly the same. Works for one battery. Then nothing. Has anyone any idea of how to troubleshoot this? My theory is, if it was my wiring, it would not have passed info to the flight controller the first time. I am stumped

If a uart is 'missing', it usually means it is dedicated to a particular function and will not have solder pads for you to use. In other words it's not 'broken out' on the FC.

As far as I know to be true, it will drop out of the sky right above the take off spot.

It will not land or hover by itself. You can set a fail safe in cli.

@@Derederi rx and tx are backwards when mine did that . Amazon shiwed the pins are left to right. From the top brown side are 5v. Rx tx.gnd. And rx goes to Tx and the rx wire goes to tx

You need to use a real FrSky receiver, like an XM Plus....good for 6 kms when airbourne.....200 metres is nothing in terms of distance. Not sure why you would use that Hobbymate rubbish..?

The frsky xm plus does not have telemetry and will not work with the set up. The hobbymate receiver has telemetry.
