I feel like Ducker’s not that smart… seeing as later on he convinced the others to help him light his head on fire so that he could be “supreme flame-head wizard.”

I might be reading way too much into it but I feel like it's a commentary on religious leaders manipulating people for their own gain

I always thought it was all of it. He’s not very intelligent, he wants that dry spot, he wants power/privilege, he believes they need some sort of God (his reaction to Chorn at the end) and guidance, he manipulated the others and maybe even himself into thinking the worshipped thing/animal speaks. I don’t think he believes that he understands the duck. But he’s so cute doing it. Love him. I understand cults now 🤣
