Back at the beginning of this year, I started a series of videos taking a comprehensive, chronological look at all the DVD releases that I currently own of television shows produced by Disney, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Disney Channel. Well, I haven’t made a new entry in that series since July, despite being so close to reaching the endgame, and I figured that after a 4-month break, it’s finally time to begin finishing what I started before 2023 comes to a close.
I’ve gotten three additional DVD releases of Disney Television Animation shows during the stretch of time when this series of videos was on hiatus, so I’ve decided to cover one of them each after tackling one of the only three DVDs that I currently own of live-action Disney Channel fare. We begin with perhaps the most exciting Disney title I was able to get on physical media in a very long while: the long overdue fourth and final volume set of the original DuckTales! Finally, I can complete my rundown of the entire line of DuckTales DVDs!
DuckTales: Volume 4 was released on DVD on September 11, 2018, nearly 11 years after the previous volume set of the series, and contains the final 25 episodes, making classic DuckTales one of the very few Disney television shows to have had its entire run made available on physical media. This release has only ever been made available to purchase brand new through the Disney Movie Club, which I refuse to join because I don’t think the deals it offers are worth the expense of staying a member, but I was able to get a copy secondhand through a third-party seller on Amazon for $25 (which is a bit on the pricey side, but consider it normally costs twice as much on the site) back in May, two months after I made videos covering the show’s other DVD releases. Since nobody else has bothered doing so yet, I figured that now is the perfect time to showcase the opening to/menus for this set.
Being a title originating from the Disney Movie Club, the fourth and final volume of the original DuckTales is quite barren, even moreso than the show’s prior DVD releases. There are no Sneak Peeks at the beginning of any of the three discs, and there isn’t even a Set Up menu despite the discs having English subtitles; you have to turn the subtitles on using the appropriate button on your player’s remote control if you need them. At least the paltry amount of menu screens we DID get here do a good job matching the aesthetic of the menus for the original three volume sets from oh so very long ago, which is a whole lot more than what I can say about Warner Bros’ modern physical media titles that aim to complete shows THEY started putting out on DVD during the format’s prime, but never got around to finishing the disc releases of back then. Plus, the show itself is finally complete on disc, even if it's almost certainly because of the reboot that premiered on Disney XD a year prior to this set's release.
Speaking of which, DuckTales 2017 should be completed on DVD (or maybe even Blu-ray) soon now that the 80s series is finally finished on disc; it's a damn good reimagining.
Here is a rundown of everything you will find in the openings to each of the three discs included in the DuckTales: Volume 4 DVD set…
1.) Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo (2007-13) (not only a weird inclusion, given how this set came out five years after this logo was replaced with the 2013-present variant on new Disney DVDs, but also oddly encoded in non-anamorphic widescreen; perhaps it’s because the rest of the content on all three discs are in 4x3, but it’s still so strange to see that happen on a trio of DVDs from this late in the format’s life)
2.) FBI Warnings and Bonus Features Disclaimer (the latter being unneeded, since just like Volumes 1-3 of classic DuckTales, there are no extras on this DVD set)
3.) DVD menu walkthrough
4.) Disney DVD logo (2007-14) (again, a really bizarre logo sight on a set that came out a good while after Disney retired it on their wide retail DVDs, with Disney not even bothering to have ANY kind of logo animation reminding their customers that they’re currently watching a Disney DVD nowadays; apparently, there are rumors that Disney was planning to release this set all the way back in 2013, but scrapped the idea in favor of simply repackaging the three prior volumes; could this be the reason both this logo and the 2007-13 Disney Home Entertainment logo are here?)
5.) DuckTales intro (seasons 2-4) (disc 3 only, since the intro is exactly the same on all three discs)
Next time I cover one of the new additions to the Disney Television Animation portion of my DVD collection, it’s time for all of us to break it on out, because to celebrate one of the things early 2000s kids know what the weekend is all about! But first, I’ve got another Disney Channel sitcom DVD release to cover.
Fuck. (RU-vid Kids repellent)

I still remember how very happy I was when this was released back in September 2018. I had been waiting over a decade for it since I got DuckTales Volume Three for Christmas 2007 and there were periods in my life where I really feared it would never come out.

I tried to directly rip the audio from this set's episodes, but every audio extraction program I've used fails, where with the first three volumes, it was no problem. There are a massive number of chapters on these discs and I don't know why, but I think that's what's causing the problem. It bugs me because I love me that Ron Jones score and have been trying to document everything in it, and I needed audio samples for that. In the end I had to use an indirect audio recording program, which was better than nothing, but it's still kind of the equivalent of holding a tape recorder up to a TV set's speaker.

As someone who has complete sets of Gravity Falls, Rescue Rangers and Tangled the Series on blu ray, I’m not surprised by the lackluster menus 😆 Though not complete, Sofia the First had the same lackluster menus later down the line post The Enchanted Feast dvd.
