when Dudley died I cried that we all had lost a truly unique musical genius. Listening to his jazz and classical recordings are reminders of his talent we can continue to enjoy! Thanks Dud.
I recently visited Dudley's grave in New Jersey to pay my respects as a long time admirer of his talent, and as a fellow pianist. Such a shame how that disease robbed him of his one true love and had to finish his days suffering with the fact that he could no longer play piano. I miss him.
I miss him too. Next time I'm in The States, that's something I should do too. I'm contemplating making the trip from the UK to the Las Hadas Resort in Manzinollo, just to be able to sit at the bar where he played that beautiful piece
Phil Kelly Phil will you run on the beach in your grey sweat pants and film it? LOL. I'm kidding of course but that would be funny to see.I've always wanted to visit Las hadas. That would be awesome.
I remember watching the movie 10 to see beautiful Bo Derek. When I left the movie theatre all I could think of was this beautiful song. I still love it today.
PS: AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING OVERLY SENTIMENTAL, THIS SADLY DEPARTED MUSICAL GIANT, ACTOR AND COMIC, WILL BE SORELY MISSED IN THE FILM AND MUSIC INDUSTRY. THIS PIANO PIECE IS TIMELESS, MOVING, ROMANTIC AND SAD ALL WRAPPED IN ONE! (RIP) TO THE LATE GREAT DUDLEY MOORE. YOUR MUSICAL GENIUS AND COMEDY IS PRESERVED FOREVER ON FILM AND THE INTERNET FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY AND WONDER AT! SIR, I NEVER MET YOU, BUT YOU TRAGICALLY LEFT US FAR TOO SOON, MUCH TOO SOON. YOU MUSIC IS TIMELESS AND WILL TRULY LIVE FOREVER IN FILM AND THE INTERNET! THANKS FOR THE GREAT MEMORIES TO ALL YOU DEARLY DEPARTED MUSICAL ACTING STARS! (RIP)! MR. GARCIA IN SF, CA.
So many people didn't realize what a concert pianist Mr. Moore was. He didn't deserve the debilitating disease. At least his legacy lives on, and when I need some Zen, I play this performance on RU-vid.
Such sweetness and sorrow emanate in this extravagantly beautiful composition, elegantly performed by a phenomenally gifted man that is so deeply missed. If you're not smiling through tears right now then you're not a hopeless romantic and have never seen Dudley perform this piece in "10" ~ Forever young, forever beautiful, forever remembered and forever missed you are loved. Thank you.
Thank God... after all these years. To see him play this so beautifully (and exactly as he did in the movie) is a joy. Brilliant arrangement and musical structure to this song. What a neat mixture this brings. The melody is pop in nature (at least for 1980) while the lush chords bring almost a jazz component.... And all the while there is a hint of the classical. Man, this is the good stuff.
i just saw the film again and this time the music really stood out and the acting. Henry, Dudley and Blake are the people who really made this film what it is today. Its a classic that stands for a time in peoples lifes where they are getting older and how to deal with it. Brilliant film that will be remembered.
I spent a week with the dear friend of Dudley Moore, Barbara Moore (no relation), who was so respected by Dudley, as a neighbor, friend and as a mutual pianist/composer/arranger, that her gave her his prized piano. There it stood, the centerpiece of her wonderful grand room, in Bognor Regis, UK.They actually were neighbors for some time in England. She got very misty eyed as she told me about him, from a personal point of view. "His wit, and talents were matched only by his kindness to everyone". She told me they would play together quite a bit. I'll never forget seeing that piano, and hearing of his personality.
The day that Dudley Moore died I popped the movie '10' into the VCR and fast forwarded to the scene where he played this song in the movie. It was my way of remembering and celebrating his musical and comedic genius. :)
I had the pleasure of seeing this movie when i came out and i got goose bumps when Dudley played this song, Still say what i said then, Awesome!!! Now i am 47 and identify with it alot, It will remain timeless! R.i.p. Dudley your talent was impeccable!!
PS: IF I AM EVER IN NEW JERSEY(WHICH I DOUBT) I WOULD BE HONORED TO PLACE FLOWERS ON HIS GRAVE. WE TRULY LOST A GENTLE MUSICAL/COMEDY GENIUS. I PRAY MOST IF NOT ALL DISEASES ARE ERADICATED IN MY LIFETIME, SADLY I DOUBT IF THAT WILL EVER COME TO PASS, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW! (RIP) TO THE LATE GREAT DUDLEY MOORE.
incredible :) Musician, Artist, Composer, and actor :) I cannot help having a smile on my face thinking of his renditions of "ARTHUR" We miss him :-) Dudley's was one of a kind :-)
What a great talent. I will never forget the first time I heard him play jazz piano-he could easily have been a professional muscian. He shall be missed in full measure..
I wonder how much his disease had progressed by the time of this performance. Bless him. I hear mistakes that I don't think are stylistic variations. Such a horrible disease. I remember Dudley Moore as such a perfectionist both as a musician and an actor. RIP, Mr. Moore. You did good. Always.
Hi EdWaldrup, Thank you so much for sharing this. What a beautifully sad piece. In your description you put that very nicely. We did indeed lose a "gentle genius". It wasn't until recently that I discovered his musical talents. I always loved him and appreciated his playful acting roles in comedies like Foul Play, Arthur and from my teen years the movie Like Father Like Son. To this day I think he was genius in that role. The board meeting/ chewing gum with a cigarette scene alone is worth the price of admission. lol I had no idea he was also a gifted composer and pianist. Being a fan of Christopher Cross and the film Arthur I stumbled across this live performance with Dudley and Christopher performing Arthur's Theme together. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DWQb-vMb8kA.html Wow, such a talented pianist! It's so sad to read that in some ways Dudley had similar struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction similar to his character Arthur. My heart broke when I read that he passed away of pneumonia, secondary to immobility caused by progressive supranuclear palsy. So sad that we lost such a talent and as you so nicely put it, gentle genius. I'm just grateful we have his music and movies that make us laugh, smile and in this case, even cry a little bit. I just read that his last words were... "I can hear the music all around me." I don't know about you, but I find a tremendous amount of comfort in that and he makes me smile, yet again. :)
Aww, dear dud....a handsome talanted man.what a great comady 10 was, beautiful bo and Julie andrews, what a part for Julie, just shows what a diverse actress she was.RIP cute lovely dud.xx💟💟💟
I'm currently working on some oil paintings and so I purchased a few of his albums (CD's) to help put me in the subject mood.... but every time this or a few others come up I just stop for a bit......Beautiful.
Both Duddley Moore and Sammy Davis Jr. Lived their lives on stage. They lived to perform. They both died without having really close friends in their lives. Both had genius level talent.
Dudley...where are you now?! :( What a great piece, what a great people! They don't make them like that anymore! I just ordered 10 OST on cd on eBay for a lot of $!!! :)
