Feuds between women in music are incredibly common, but why?! As Ariana Grande and Mariah finally collaborate on a non Christmas song in 2024, “Yes and?”, the remix, let’s look into their relationship overall. #mariah #ariana2024
She also seems to have an attitude problem. I like Mariah's music but she doesn't seem to be a nice person. I don't know much about Ariana beyond a few songs, although I know she's talented
mariah is an absolute sweetheart and shes always been supportive of other female singers. her frustration was a result of the media trying to overshadow her legacy with needless comparisions, which is totally understandable. it irks me when other fandoms to try to paint her as an envious evil queen cause that couldnt be further from the truth. all that to say that this video addresses all of that in a fair and nuanced way. i love that you included the topic of ageism cause that's a prevalent issue to this day! awesome work as always, thank you for your insightful content! ❤
Thanks very much! I know many Lambs initially ignored Ariana's music. Do you think many lambs now pay attention to her discography given the "feud" has subsided?
great video! I think Ariana would have been accepted by the lambs if she were a true singer songwriter or chose producers and songwriters to create her own sound from the beginning. like take a moment create some music and release it not do a Mariah cover to get attention and have producers try and make you sound like her 😅
Ariana did covers of various artists at the time, Whitney, Imogen heap, India Arie etc. I don’t think that necessarily meant she was trying to garner attention off of Mariah bc she did a cover…
While the label definitely may have encouraged and packaged her that way, I really don’t think they really pushed Ariana to “sound like Mariah” more than herself. I think Ariana was just genuinely a fan and she was so influenced that Mariah’s style was encapsulated in her voice early in her career. I don’t think there’s anything wrong w that either bc like the video states she was finding herself as a young artist. The two albums people make the Mariah comparisons w are her debut and sophomore albums yours truly and my everything, which came out months between each other. With her later albums starting with Dangerous Woman, she really started to hone in and develop a more distinct style as an artist
It would be interesting if you did an analysis of Thalia's career. I know that she is not an A-list singer, but somehow I have the impression that she was always a little short of achieving worldwide success. However, today she is one of the most influential singers in the Latin world and has been constant all these years.
I like Mariah's music from the 90s and early 2000s but I always thought she had a nasty attitude. I understand she went through a lot as a kid but that's not an excuse to be nasty toward people. I feel the same way about whitney. I like their music but I could never consider myself as a fan of either because they don't seem like nice people
@@divatalk9011 She seems to be very shady and dismissive towards other female singers( outside of the ones she knows personally) hard for me to think of an example because I stopped watching her interviews back in 2008. But i noticed that she has no problem genuinely praising male singers/rappers or female singers that came before her but it's like pulling teeth to get her to genuinely say something nice about female singers of her era or anyone that came after. I realize that the claims made in this comment lack evidence because i can't produce an example. I don't really feel like going through her interviews because I can't really stomach much of her. I do love her music and I am interested in learning about the things that happened in her life that made her who she is today. Just so you know I'm definitely not picking on Mariah, I also dislike Whitney, Luther and Aretha for similar reasons.
@@jakemiles1427I think her interviews will actually make you understand her. Maybe try her 2018 Genius interview or her 2000 Rainbow album interview (this one is a deep cut, it’s just a recording but it’s an amazing look into her mind, both are about at least an hour long).
