Nov. 15, 1941. Less than a month before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Duke defeats UNC 20-0 to help secure an invitation to the Rose Bowl. First game film to be shot in color.

Part of the Duke Sports Films collection at Duke University Libraries:
library.duke.edu/digitalcollec...
The Duke University Archives preserves 16mm film and videotape created by the coaching staffs of the Duke football and men's basketball programs. This site contains descriptions of the film and videotape shot, whether an access copy exists, and in some cases, the physical condition of the original film. Football films and video cover the period of 1935 to 1994 and Men's Basketball film covers the period of 1947 to 1996. It is important to note that the films document the play of the teams and were created as tools for study and training, not for broadcast. Some films were cut and spliced, so the footage may not show the complete game or be in the order the game was played. Also not every game was filmed and there are numerous gaps in the coverage of the film. For information on how to view or request a copy of a film, please see library.duke.edu/digitalcollec...

Wow. This is better quality than the CSS/Lincoln Financial/Jefferson Pilot feeds that they have nowdays and this is nearly 70 years old.

notice no arm tackling or leading with the helmet. they actually wrapped up the running back the way you're supposed to. great to see. coaches nowadays should show this video.

Notice there is no chain gang, just a couple of guys squatting down, Also, on the last play on the video, which is a punt, the other team jumps offside, clearly makes contact, then gets back, but there is no penalty. Such a treat to see such a high-quality color video this old.

Yeah I know, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear this game is from 1961. The quality is that good!

Very cool to see this in color. For 1941, this is pretty good quality.

@lilSB52 yeah, the quarterback was a "blocking back" back in the day. See the guy lined up behind the guard? That's him. Basically, back then your "tailback" was today's quarterback, but they had to be multitalented back then. They had to be able to run, throw, kick, and play defense as well.

Im glad the game has changed so much from back then. It is boring to watch this type of game. Offenses today are the reason it has become so popular. Also great quality for something from the 40's. It was better quality that some film I have seen from the 80's
