Dumbbell Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift - Back pain friendly and easy to modify!
One of my go-to posterior chain exercises is the Dumbbell Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift. When it comes to low back pain the Romanian deadlift (traditional) can be intimidating. Instead of normal deadlifts give this Dumbbell Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift a try. I promise you will feel better doing them and your low back will thank you for it!

Single leg rdls might be my new favorite. Improved balance, strength, and body alignment all in one movement. Helps with us old/injured people who can't deadlift anymore 😂

I've got lower back pain for several years and it's been worse lately so I've avoided squatting and deadlifting since a couple of weeks ago.😭😭Thank you so much for sharing this video. I did the workout this morning and l loved that!! 👍👍

Excellent vid. not sure what led me here, but I've been rotating these into my routine for at least a decade. Great deadlift variation that trains balance and engages your entire core. One of my favorite non-standard exercises that often has people asking me "what are you doing?"

So glad you are doing these videos!! There is almost no information available for exercise post-op spinal surgery. I was actually just wondering if there was a safer way to do deadlifts! Keep doing what you are doing. So many people need this information.

Thank you for explaining the variation so well!! I'm hoping I can reincorporate this back into my routine...I'm going to attempt them with bodyweight first and master the balancing aspect as one side I'm capable of doing it without issue but the other I'm def wobbly! Question for you: You mentioned "I'm not over extending" at the end of the range...if one were to do that would that create a bad scenario for the lower back and contribute to disc issues? Or cause them? I've noticed that some fitness peeps do this during dead lifts and wondering if that is something others should not be emulating. Love your channel btw!! I'll be sure to share it with others.

Yes, So overextension is what could possibly lead to negative feedback especially fo someone who is already really sensitive or has a history of LBP. The key is finding YOUR neutral spine and building stability and strength in the core while you're working on consistency in your hip hinge technique. Thanks for sharing!!

@@Fitness4BackPain Makes complete sense to me...thank you for adding your thoughts and verifying my suspicions!! I'm like you and have issues at my L5 S1 and it's been immobilizing me over the last year off and on. I'm able to do walks and the occassional family vacation hikes but getting back to strength training at home has been challenging and I'm having to alter my approach. Its def a learning curve but I'm going about it intuitively listening to my body. Your videos have been invaluable and really align with how I was re-approaching it.
