There is a difference if you get a disc that goes central in to your spinal cord you have no choice they insist on spinal sugery. If a disc bulging to the side you can heal naturally. Unfortunately I’ve had caudia equina syndrome twice now. Sometimes you have no choice you have to have surgery to stop you ending up like me. Numb from hips down. So please be clear there sometimes medical emergencies. I don't want anyone ending up like me through not getting help.
Unfortunately my spinal sugery was a medical emergency. I developed caudia equina syndrome over 18 months. Nobody knew what was wrong with me. I was operated on and unfortunately nothing changed my nerves were dead through been crushed. I now have thoracic disc bulging central and trying my best to not get sugery. I’ve already lost my bladder and bowel. They say i could be numb from waist down. I am already numb from hips down away. I don’t see the benefits of sugery for me. I'll try to keep myself away from the doctors.
You are amazing! My back pain was never structural. The only think that made a dent and helped tremendously were mind body tools and changing my thoughts and emotions about pain
I can literally feel my nerves sliding across my disc when I do the dead bug and my feet get all tingly and cold. Atleast I'm assuming thats what I feel popping. So I don't do it because it gives me a mild flare up.

I ditched the barbell squat years ago too. I still do plenty of squat variations, just none with a barbell or a super heavy load. Same with deadlifting, I rarely do that aside from an isometric variation on occasion. I still train my posterior chain, all the time, just without the deadlift. Being able to lift hundreds of pounds off of the ground isnt super useful to me, and even not directly deadlifting or barbell squatting other than a one off here or there for years, I can still easily do over 200#s on either (almost 300 for deads) at a body weight of 165. Not amazing but good enough for me. I train primarily for health and general athleticism, and neither of those exercises are worth the risk vs other movements for me anymore.
Regarding the dead bug exercise and the one you show with a band, they all look a lot like mcgill curl up and they all involve lying on your back Why do you suggest people keep a flat back in this exercise, wouldn’t it be better to have an arch, maybe place a pillow underneath? Cheers!
I have adjustable dumbbells that can hold 400lbs of 10's on each dumbbell handle. I like to deadlift dumbbells with them on the sides of my legs for leg strength development, they force you to go deep and they push your core to the max, nothing works better.
I completely agree with you, ( I don’t have a back pain) thank you for making this video, I think all of us should be our own advocate ( mentor) in life ❤from Gilbert, Arizona
There is no quick fix that will work for everyone, far from it. McGill would be the first to say so! I find these kind of videos somewhat disingenuous and misrepresenting McGill's body of work. I have to wonder whether the presenter here has actually read his text book..? You make the very common error of saying the term "core strength", which if you have read Low Back Disorders, you should absolutely know that STRENGTH is NOT positively correlated with resolving back pain. Rather , ENDURANCE is. You are selling McGill very short here!!!
Agreed. 10+ years of chronic low back pain. Haven't solved the riddle yet. Not sure if I ever will. I know there are probably people out there who can find the solution for me, but I can't afford the help right now. I'm just accepted this is how life is.
Just had my whole spine fused after 8 operations, I kept snapping my rods, so 2 weeks ago I went through an 11 hour op and was told to do certain exercises given to me by the hospital, these are a killer , I couldn't imagine doing half these exercises your showing as I've alot of screws, think about 67 altogether and I'm concerned my bone graft won't cope with anything to pressurising, so for the mean time unfortunately I'm just going to stick to these ones I've been given, I'll look to progress to more advanced exercises withing about a month depending on how I'm feeling.
I had L5/S1 fusion in May 2024. My physical therapist is excellent! She says the exact thing that you are mentioning. I walk every other day and do my exercises & stretches the opposite day. I also take a day of rest. Agree 100% to listen to our bodies
