It’s hilarious that the kid with schizophrenia is literally the only person in the entire game Nathan constantly cusses at. It’s like he’s personally offended by his very existence.
Their dynamic is absolutely brilliant, he's so fed up with him for no reason, it looks like having to deal with him will end up making him quit his job
It honestly feels like they let Emma Stone's character from Poor Things write the script, y'know before she became one of those French girls and expanded her mind
It would seem the dialogue is TRANSLATED rather being terrible AI.. as moist said... even AI would have done better... you can tell really by the BAD ASS BOYFRIEND.. they say bad ass.. but everyone acts like hes a scum bag boyfriend.. which is what i think its supposed to mean.. im sure most people got this!!
This game had to be written by someone who doesn’t speak English and then used a bad translator. That has to be the reason for the stroke inducing dialog.
Its like someone translated, retranslated it into a different language again using google translate, then copy pasted that into an even worse translator back into english😭
@@kimbaet3592Yeah, the devs are Turkish. The "badass" boyfriend having a Turkish name was so out of place lol, then the credits rolled. Deniz Bozkurt - translates as Sea Graywolf, which is a perfectly normal name and surname, believe it or not.
Yeah, most likely an AI translation of dialogue written in another language fed into an AI text-to voice program. This is why having loads of actual skilled translators able to write subtitles or dubbed vocals is an amazing gift to humanity that lets us all share culture. If we let Chat GPT negotiate at the UN it'll be DEFCON 1 in minutes.
Not really? 1998 had amazing games, it was one of the peak years for the industry. Metal Gear Solid released that year. Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill...
also for how insane the dialogue is, im surprised by how cinematic some of the scenes are. while its not even accurate to how suspects are treated in investigations, i did enjoy that little cutaways to suspects getting mugshots taken as a sort of introduction. plus the graphics look decent enough, but im not entirely sure how easy it is to make games in unreal engine now, so these might all be drag-and-drop assets or something
It's most likely a bad translation and lazily having text-to-speech/AI voices instead that dragged what would normally be a not-too-bad game into a fun-bad game
AI is way better than this. They machine translated this shit but used a translator that was clearly not powered by AI. Seems like they even tried to translate some stuff themselves, I mean how else did they end up with "gluck"? Then they used some basic ass text-to-speech and called it a day.
@@gunkwizardryYeah the animation at times is honestly pretty good but usually it's freaky and over exaggerated. I might guess they have some automation process for that too and it happened to look good at times.
"mocking with me is not the time, your father is dead, you know?" 'yes, but he's not the only one died. hahahaha' "what do you mean?" 'that's what i exactly said' "did the death of your father not get you down?" (sarcastic) 'yes, i have no-one i can sleep together anymore' this is award-winning writing, let's be real. gold medal for 'most unintentionally comedic dialogue'
"That boy is not normal as hell." is such a great way to describe someone that laughs manically, says there was more than one person that died, and admits to having slept in the same bed as his father.
to be fair it says in his description it was because he was scared of the dark. And if we believe the "doctors say my brain age is 7" (and the fact he is schizophrenic) then it's just Nathan being a massive asshole to someone who is severely mentally ill.
The weird replies makes for a great difficulty slider, imagine investigating a death and everyone in the area tries to give you a headache at every step.
Then the final twist is that the whole crime scene was in a toxic swamp and the first victim actually just died of hypoxia-which is slowly working its way through everybody else, including the player character.
Exactly, it starts off with some mildly weird choices of words here and there only to slowly devolve into an incoherent mess, man I swear I wouldn't pull it off this well if I intended it. I love this game so much lmao
30:38 '"talk to james"......... what do you MEAN talk to james hes the DEAD GUY! hes fucking dead! james is the victim! talk to him via what, ouija board??' has to be my new favourite chat interaction. not only the reaction but the absolute shut down and silence as it slowly sinks in before the outrage
The moment i saw "Age 70 but fountain works" I understood the dev is Turkish haha. In Turkish that saying is "Yaş 70 iş bitmemiş" and the dev actually did good job translating that even though it might sound weird for native English speakers. Also this is pretty much the same reason for every dialogue weirdness in the game.
I love how you just go through the house taking all their expensive belongings. "Ah yes, I need this expensive jewelry box, along with this designer purse for my investigation!!!"
Ah, a delicious bottle of Dom Pérignon, yes, we'll need this for the investigation.. is that watch a Tudor ? I will definitely need to confiscate that. I'll put it on my wrist for safe keeping. Is that your car parked in the garage? 😂 it's hilarious until you find out that a surprising amount of police departments actually do this, keeping up to 90% of profits without the need of charging anyone with a crime or even give a reason. Just search 'policing for profit' and your find wild statistics, and hundreds of cases where people's cars, valuables, even their life savings are confiscated as civil forfeiture.
I love how it starts out "okay" with the dialogue, despite the speech to text. But as you go along, it just begins devolving and getting worse in its grammar and sentence structure.
@@DragoNate the Caretaker? That's the guy who does all those albums that simulate the advancing stages of dementia, like _Everywhere At The End Of Time._
@@DistractedGlobeGuy Oh interesting, I think this is the first time I'm hearing about this. Just took a listen to Stage 5 - yeah, definitely just slightly disturbing lol
With just how much the game emphasizes the boyfriend being a badass, I half-expected him to show up out of nowhere and drop-kick the sheriff when he pulled out the gun
Yeah It does feel like a human didn't really revise this game at all. They just let ai take the wheel and called it day. While I don't mind the ai voice too much, it doesn't help its case
That's literally what I just did, I was fussing at coworkers and in a bad mood and then that part made me laugh out of nowhere so now I look like a lunatic 😂
I like that no matter who you choose as the murderer, it’s implied they would find the sheriff’s fingerprints on the gun anyways like 20 seconds after you pin the suspect
He is clearly not stupid tho. It’s not easy task to complete a video game, he had to learn coding, write a script, find right assets etc. You will never know until you try to undertake something like this. His only mistake was not hiring someone with good English or even using something like chatgpt or grammarly to fix the dialogue. If he did though, we wouldn’t get this gem lol.
"The DECEASED professor James Bennet RETURNS EARLY FROM A PLANNED 2 week business trip. Following his unplanned return, he becomes the victim of a MURDER for an unknown reason." Literally the 1st sentence of the game and I'm here for 10 minutes confused at this riddle? was he dead and then murdered or murdered then dead?
The people who developed this game clearly didn't know how to use these AI assisted tools to make the facial expressions, the scripts, and the translation, and ended up with this mess of a game. They trusted into them way too much.
The characters all seem to want to play semantic games but the writing is so incomprehensible that you wouldn’t understand even if they were speaking plainly. Truly one of the games of all time.
What would have been a half cool idea: "maybe this game the detective is having a psychoactive break and words aren't making sense anymore, the more you find the more words start to right themselves and you have to use the new clean dialogue with the scrambled shit, or otherway around"
“The deceased professor” “murdered for an unknown reason” huh, I bet the murder weapon was the poison for James, the poison specifically chosen to kill James, James’ poison. It’s a bad sign when the first sentence is that rambling, and worded so unclearly that it makes me think a ghost went on a business trip.
holy shit, apparently the dev has removed all voice acting and subtitles from the game and is "working on replacing it" but man, I wish I could play THIS version for myself... This is killing me!
