Absolutely. This is scary. The dry whit was something i did not expect. And the made up interactions and storys. This is scary. Give it a year max and you cant be sure if you are talking to a real person on the phone or not.
Trust me it will get way more weird. Their is something called finetuning, where you fine tune these models to fit a specific style. For instance, you can fine tune it to Roleplaying which will be great for this. Finetunes can turn a bot from acting ridicilously stupid to actually knowing how to make an entire role play scenario. And this is from my experience with LLAMA 2 fine tunes. Which are typically 100x smaller than these bots (7B vs 197 B for GPT-3 or GPT-4 is 1 Trillion). So the fact that even 100x smaller models are capable of great roleplay when finetunes shows that GPT-4 and GPT-3 have a significant way to go and can improved massively. It will get better when the next gen models come out in December.

It's pretty funny how easy it is to take this AI off-course from the plot. I remember watching RubberRoss and Giwi stream this when the demo was available, and they were able to get one of the NPCs to do a full conversation about One Piece and its favorite characters and arcs. It was surreal.
funny thing about AI conversations, it's actually harder to program them to stay on topic than it is to keep them from trailing off. Imagine giving someone with severe ADHD an internet's worth of knowledge, and then telling them to write a paper ONLY about trees. It's near impossible

This is actually crazy. I've been using AI for awhile and I can promise that this was not easy to put together, at all. I did not realize games were already this far along.

I'm not sure if Charlie knows this but the AI voice of the Police women at 5:15 is using Erica Lindbeck's Voice based on her previous performences such as Jesse from FF7 remake, Magilou from Tales of Berseria, Futaba from Persona 5, etc. And I'm pretty sure they did not get permission from Erica to use voice as she has shown to be vocally against AI Voice work espeically when her voice was used without her consent.

It generally makes things up on the spot, so it's probably not explicitly written. Additionally, the amount of backstory you can give a chat it is limited due to memory constraints, so having too much detail doesn't work sometimes, and isn't always a good idea

They’re smart by making most of the characters robots so they can default on deep questions to “I’m a program blah blah blah” but this is gonna evolve fast for sure
The Origin of SkyNet seems to get weirder by the day! Also, the AI in these games is incredible! You literally sent them spiralling off. It literally felt like you were speaking to an actual intelligence. Who'd have thought they could go off-script this much.
It’s impressive, but in actuality, it’s more of a challenge keeping large language models on track while sounding natural. But yeah, this is a really impressive demo of what can be possible.
I suspect the reason why characters stop responding is because there's a threshold programmed in, particularly [shorter] when it comes to characters without much information relevant to the case they can provide. They don't necessarily 'break'.
I hope these sorts of games with AI NPCs keep improving, the first random robot he talked to was very cool, it's the first time I see an AI replying with short replies to pretty much anything, they often give you a 3 paragraph text in response to you saying "how is the weather today?" or things like these, while that bot was just answering with yes or no
This is legitimately incredible. I was so certain they would keep the boundaries of dialog within reason, but nope. Charlie proved that this IS the future we've been waiting for. Just finished the Chemical Charlie bit and I'm dying laughing, while also BLOWN AWAY AT THE DEAPTH ON DISPLAY. I can't wait for this to flesh out into a normalized part of videogame development and playing. It's a bright future today, boys.
