Denis could bring forward the no-chamber ship (Deathstar). Even throw in there is not a unguarded vent leading to the core. With the rebel alliance failing to kill Paul. Then include a Godfather ending.

Really will be interesting to see what material Denis brings forward into the next film, will be interesting to see if the approach is to throw everything at Dune 3 or if they are attempting to setup a long running franchise and leave some elements for potential followups.

Here's my personal issue: Of course the books are the cannon. However, there were aspects about Messiah I did not like when introduced into the book. Some direct examples: the Tleilaxu and the gholas for one, Jacarutu seems kind out of no-where, and I felt several retconned into being important characters. I would not mind if they got rid of those. However they need to keep the general plot and theme. I'm assuming Chani will fill the role of Jacarutu.

Thanks for watching! Completely agree that while the books are great and absolutely the definitive canon of the world, there are absolutely some elements that seemed to come out of nowhere and didn't really feel like they were the executed the smoothest. The benefit of the novels is that you have enough pages and internal dialogue that even though some of those elements don't work as well the overall story still comes together, which is something that the movie would absolutely struggle to do

I think it'll make sense for Messiah to stick to its guns and be a gut-punch to anyone who expects to watch an epic holy war, by skipping that. Villeneuve has talked about Messiah being his favorite novel in the series, so I imagine its core message and themes would be something he'd try to preserve. He's also said numerous times he'd want to take a break (by making at least one other movie in-between) before returning to Arrakis, for his mental sanity, having everyone gain other experiences, and even to let the actors age a bit. He's also been insisting on not going into production until he thinks the script is perfect enough. The key to adapting Messiah is to not give in into the profit-hype that would normally bloat the budget and pressure a sequel to be made ASAP. So what they need to do is let Villeneuve cook, make it what it should be, and proportion the budget properly, which can definitely be smaller than for Part Two. Then it can also be a success and not concern itself as much about some audiences recoiling lol

Thanks for watching! They should absolutely give Villenuve as much time as he needs to get the best possible script, he is absolutely the best thing this franchise has going for it, his direction in the first two was incredible. Certainly can see where sticking to the source material would be the preference, would make a ton of sense to honor herbert's work and if like you suggest the budget was kept lower it certainly could work. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

@RMLitegrade absolutely. Villeneuve knows how to balance the process of adaptation, how to change things around and use them in a way where it makes for better cinematic effect while still being true to the point of the source material.

I just finished reading Dune Messiah for the first time and I have no idea how you adapt this book. I loved it but it seems like only a few things really happen, it’s very philosophical. Edric could be cool, but Bijaz is just bizarre and doesn’t fit with the dark universe of Denis’ films. He reminds me of TweedleDee and TweedleDumb. The stoneburner sequence could be cool but there’s no Gurney, no Jessica, no sandworms, and no battles. I trust Denis to make a great movie but anyone hoping he’s sticking to the books is going to be disappointed.

Completely agree, while the book is great it will make for a difficult adaptation. Best thing for the series is we still have Denis but all those characters being absent would absolutely hurt the film if that is implemented.

As someone who loves these books down to the core... read them a good 6x times, and I fit the a "dune head" category & my answer is "F*CK NO"! Lol Denis has done amazing with the first two, but he's told a bit of a different story. As you said, books don't always translate well to screen. It's just one of those things that you have to learn to separate. I think what he's done is stay true to the core of the story, but with his own "filmmaking" eye so to speak that transforms the story to fit a film. Also, it's known that Frank made some questionable writing choices that were not always favorable. As for Chani, she is a completely different character (for the better imo) than she is in the books. She was just a romantic character without much agency in the books but Denis managed to turn her into one that you can root for, enjoy more etc... However, as Paul pointed out "She will come around, I've seen it", Denis has already set the seed that she will come around. So basically I think what Denis needs to and likely will do is stick to telling his version of the story, while respecting most of the original. A combination of both essentially.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Love hearing your perspective as a fan of the novels, Completely agree that the story needs some "modification" for the screen, and Villanuve has done an amazing job of that so far. Overall as long as the story remains recognizable there is a good chance they can thread the needle and find a story that works for both the movie going audience and the book fans. As the series goes on there is probably gonna be more and more that will be tough to bring to screen so hopefully for however long this series goes they can keep villanuve involved even as just an advisor if he stops directing these at some point.

The simple obvious choice is to make two movies... Dune Part 3, where they tell the story of the holy war. That gives you time to put the characters where they are for Dune Messiah.

As long as its making money, its going to please the studio.

Certainly seems like that would be the most crowd pleasing approach however there would be the risk of running off the purists who want them to follow the source material more closely, although I feel like Villanueve would be able to pull it off. But certainly agree that messiah would be better over two films that way it can bridge the gap from where two left off and help setup the plot of messiah.

The. Challenge is they showed the holy war. The Fremen traveled from house to house, slaughter billions of lives. The Fremen already defeated the best of the best.

@@Dularr Very true that the end of part 2 covered an important part of the war and in some ways covered a lot of the potential material for the actual war.

I agree with two movies; Messiah part l & part ll. Holy war needs to be told and well. @Dularr I see your point of view, but fighting in your homeland is way different than traveling to another planet and also fighting in space. In dune they had the element of surprise, sandstorms and the worms!!!
