I don't think that DW2 can "solve" a number of issues that people have with DW1 simply because some people want it to be MORE D&D while others want it to be MORE PBTA. If you move the game too far in any given direction, then you risk alienating the core audience of DW1. Crane just needs to give the game a good scrub and a polish, streamlining a bit, clarifying things for newcomers (e.g., moves, fronts, advice, etc.), and possibly hammering out some of the known issues. Overall, it just needs to be a breath of fresh air that makes the game feel alive again and gives the community a new standard as a building-off point.
I want PbtA for action resolution (moves), perhaps with dice pool or other BitD features. But a tactical miniatures mode to make it more like 3.5e/4e/5e. I want domain building rules like in ACK (another scandal-laden RPG). I would also be happy with a PbtA sort of mini toolkit kind of like what Mini-Six did for D6 System.
I agree I want the rules stay the same. Just a polish to explaining them and some nicer illustrations in the book. No need for a change of any mechanics in my opinion
Man ive been watching your videos for a few months now when i started a Dungeon World group for some of my fraternity brothers. We recently started playing Masks on days that some players couldnt make it. They watched your video on the Masks playbooks and noticed that you are an ATO from one of your pictures in that video. Thanks for helping a few brothers reconnect and explore their imagination and fight imaginary bad guy. L & R from some Zeta Mu ATOs!
Not only was curvyllama a survivor, Adam KNEW that she was. It also later came out that his relationship with Bluejay (Koebel's ex) was incredibly toxic and downright abusive at times. (there's a twitlonger that talks about it) It also later came out that Adam screwed over his friends around RollPlay, as far as I remember he made it so he became the sole DM for the show and this involved some element of subterfuge on his part. Yup okay, I went and this involved Steven Lumpkin and Neal Erickson, there's twitter posts about it, and a hobby drama post (reddit) about Koebel with way more information
Yeah all bullshit. None of this is true and all just a bunch of people who jumped on the bandwagon to hate on Adam after the initial Far Verona "incident." The truth about the Far Verona crap is all the players agreed to play that game. They talked about that session AFTER it happened on the Roll Play Patreon and EVERY player talked about it, and were talking about the next session. It wasn't until the public jumped on him that some of the players jumped on the bandwagon, partly due to peer pressure, to attack Adam. On that Patreon discussion the two women admitted that they suspected what was coming, which you could see in the roleplaying just before the scene in question. Rewriting someone's history to fit this hate narrative is the real wrong that has happened.
I didn't follow the entire thing, so maybe knowing more might change my mind, but all I saw about that incident was some clip of him running a relatively tame scene where a player's android character got artificially stimulated in what seemed to be intended as a comedic scene. Hardly seemed like some hardcore graphic assault scene. Maybe there was more to it, I don't know. I've seen way more edgy scenes in my own RPG experiences, and it seemed odd the community came down on Adam so hard, at least based off what I saw of it.
@@FMD-FullMetalDragon bro just watch the video clip. It’s pretty clear to anyone with a drop of empathy that everyone at that table is expressing discomfort and distress the entire time. Especially the player in question, whom Adam knew to be a survivor of SA at the time of recording. Further, there’s no planet where such a player requests a through line where their ingenue character learns how to say “no” to people, and the *first* opportunity for that roleplay moment you can come up with as GM is “lol, he’s a robot, so I’ll have my skeevy mechanic jerk him off without his knowledge or consent, that’s hilarious” is an acceptable series of decisions.
@@FMD-FullMetalDragon "They jumped on the bandwagon because of peer pressure" is way more disingenuous speculation than anything else that had been said, and personal recollections have way more credibility than "Well I just think that's why"
Tabletop Bro releases another Dungeon World video?! Stop everything and watch immediately! I don't even need a 2e exactly I just want it to stay supported so I can convince people to play this awesome game!!
I’m pretty excited! I’ve felt for a long time that all DW needs is a good edit job (the book could easily be 1/2 to 1/3 the size) and to compile the best move tweaks we’ve seen from the hacks over the years. And frankly Luke is one of the best people to do that. That said we’re all talking about a project that’s at least 2 years to completion so who knows?
Another AWESOME VID!! I’m running Dungeon World this coming weekend to a group of players who all have at least 20 ttrpging! I introduced them to DW last year at our “friend Con” and they demanded we play again this year! P.s. over the 4 days I’m also running Paranoia for these guys. Most of whom have never played it before. 😈
I would change some things like Racelocking classes, and have some of the racial bonuses be more like a background feat you can choose on any race. ( I lived through the old nostalgic days they are trying to evoke and those design choices felt annoying even back then that is why they changed) Also stuff like not letting there be 2 of the same class in a party is annoying because it limits the stories that can be told "3 priests and a paladin on a faith pilgrimage" and " A group of wizards trying to pass an arcane test" were things i couldn't do in Dungeon world and that is what players wanted. Also the Body options in class creation can be just descriptive options or prompts and not 'you can only choose these.' Maybe i could get people to play it instead of saying "i will pass" when learning the restrictiveness of parts of the system. There are people who want rules lighter alternatives but don't want to be crammed into little 'nostalgia boxes' for a time they never lived through.
There are several things that a second edition can offer. First of all, clean up. The first edition is so wordy and overwritten. You could easily cut the book size in half by trimming the fat. Second, presentation. You can add way more art. Third, rebalancing/class options. There are several several classes in the game, like Druid and Bard, that are undercooked, and could use more options to further customize and make you character unique. Just some thoughts.
I agree that people can grow and change, but with Adam Koebel, he has never showed an intention to grow. As for Luke Crane, i'll just wait and see. No judgement, yet.
Thanks for doing this, I was curious whether this was just ENWorld rumor mill, and wanted to hear from someone from the DW community. Whatever happens will be a while out for sure. Fingers Crossed until then.
Cautiously optimistic for Koebal to be not involved at all, but ill wait and see. It could be another Mike Mearls keeps trying to sneak Zack s a b b a t h back in
Quite frankly, compared to grooming a minor, partaking in human trafficking, creating questionable content aimed at youths, spreading hate speech, starting actual riots, being part of cults… Making a really bad GM call and getting weird about it is kind of tame on the spectrum of things that get people cancelled. I think Adam is best staying in his lane, as in writing and not performing
Having written and published my own PBTA game and previously been a big fan of AK until the Far Verona debacle, I've often wondered what a DW2E would look like, and what it would be for. The big thing here, and something that D&D itself isn't obvious about, is that the thing a lot of fantasy adventure roleplaying games advertise themselves as isn't the thing they end up being about. "Fantasy Adventure" is incredibly broad. But the core premist of D&D is a colonialist fantasy: going into "evil" creatures homes, wholesale murdering them, and stealing all their stuff. DW and many other fantasy RPGs, often through their mechanics and assumptions end up reinforcing those stereotypes. Do we want that kind of Fantasy Adventure from DW2E? For me, I think Fellowship's Lord of the Rings style approach to the Great Quest against a powerful hegemonic evil is more interesting and curated to that experience. The Sword, The Crown, and The Unspeakable Power is a fascinating take on fantasy political thrillers like A Song of Ice & Fire. Shawn Tomkin's Ironsworn is a great look at perilous, dark fantasy revolving around quests and myth building reminiscent of Beowulf, and hands down has the best random generation tables for content in a game. What do any of us want from PBTA fantasy adventure? Does it already exist? or is it about to be made by someone reading this?
"Jabroni" is a derogatory, colloquial American slang term that's used to insult someone as foolish, contemptible, or a loser. So who yous call'n a jabroni, pal!?
