I'm amazed in all of the clips I'm seeing for the Dunlop mini Fuzz Faces, no one is playing through a slightly goosed amp and no one has both knobs on 10 and controls the pedal via the guitar. Thats how they sound best.
That's bs, maxing out the circuit causes a loss in clarity and cleanup. If you want to hear mud that doesn't cut just turn it on 10. To get the most out of the circuit it has to be dialed in with every guitar, amp, and signal chain it sits in. Even old school players knew to turn it on 8 not 10. You can't even bias this pedal without taking it apart. Finally whatever Eric Gales does is the law. He's the closest thing to hendrix walking the planet.
I don't understand why so many people have to just complain about pointless things that don't matter to the sound of the pedal. Just listen to a great guitar player, playing some great stuff through great gear!
Any comment I could make on how awesome Eric Gales is as a player or how great this pedal sounds would be superfluous, so I'm going to note something that should have been praised from the start but has sadly been overlooked: GREAT shoes.
You couldn't have found a BETTER dude to demo this pedal besides Hendrix himself! Eric is such a monster player, and the pedal sounds pretty damn good too!
Love watching Eric play. There's always a sense of surprise in his face like if never expected what he just played to come out. Really exciting player as his enthusiasm is infections
Just wow. Serious channeling and goodness-beyond-the-grave going on here. Eric is indeed worthy. I have barely missed my whammy bar in twenty years before watching this clip.
I just bought this pedal a month ago basically because of this video. I own 11 tube amps and several guitars. So I was a little disappointed when I couldn't get a similar tone out of this pedal. Played with it for a month then sold it. Wanted to love it, but it just didn't do what all the RU-vid videos did. It didn't sound bad per se, just didn't sound great. No where near this dirty. I tried a bunch of amps at breakup, some with the overdrive channel engaged. Just couldn't get that magic out of it. My $30 Caline Fuzz pedal actually got me closer to both this tone and Jimi's BOG tone. I guess I need a Two Rock or a solid state head like he uses live. I've owned over 100 pedals over the years. This one was of the few I couldn't bond with. Bandmates seemed to like it. I just didn't. Only good sound I used was volume knob rolled way back to 2 or 3. Go past that and it went to mud city.
Around 2:36 i first thought the mysterious 'hewwa' sound came from outside my window where people tend to do things. Then i replayed it 2 - 3 times and it was when i realized the sound came from the man in the video.
Only reasons why this tone works and is amazing: Custom Shop Fender Strat + Two Rock. It’s hard to make a fuzz sound good, you need to be good on both ends of the cable……oh also it helps that Eric Gales is one of the best that has ever touched a stringed instrument.
This goes out to Dunlop; Do you guys know why Guitar Center and Musicians Friend still don't have these available after we're told they're selling them November 1st? Many inquiring minds want to know. Thanks!!
To anyone who is so surprised if his string set up, just know it's NOT the first time it's been done lol. Albert king played the same way too. It's not wrong. In my opinion, if it sounds great and you can rip, then what's the problem? I've been searching for the right fuzz for me. I may have to try out this one now...
So, has anyone considered that maybe he was more interested in Albert King than Jimi Hendrix? Did anyone even Google him or look him up on Wikipedia top see why he does play a right-handed guitar strung normally and then turned over, as we see him doing here? I'll quote the one sentence that his Wikipedia entry gives, i.e., "Although Gales plays a right-handed guitar "upside-down" (with the E-bass string on the bottom), he is not naturally left-handed; he was taught by his brother who is left-handed and never second-guessed the untraditional technique." Do your homework before you troll on RU-vid, people....
@0:00-0:18 really needed to have a vintage tube amp tone like Jimi used to get. The distortion could only "Nail it" going through an amp getting Jimi's clean bypassed sound. You know what I mean, like the few notes he would play between songs tuning up.
Don't get me wrong those where some of the best tones I've heard from a guitar, and I know I could get them like Eric can in 100 years. but I'd like to know how that two was set. It seems like he is getting a tad bit of break up in what is supposed to be a very clean amp. This means he had to of had it cranked ALL the way up before he applied the fuzz, and I know of VERY few places that could tolerate a 50 watt amp cranked that loud with a fuzz. Most places I thank are against guitar player obliterating there audiences.
jimdunlopusa Apparently, MF didn't get the memo yet since they are not on their site today. By the way, what transistors do these use, BC108, BC183 or? Sounds pretty good, by Jeorge!
jimdunlopusa Yeah I chatted w/ MF and they didn't know when they would go live and the girl online with GC chat had no idea what I was asking for. So no new date?
