Seeing how Duquan was the smart kid in class (fixing the fan, learning to use the computer, etc) and eventually “becomes” Bubbles, it makes me wonder if Bubbles was once the smart kid in class
Bubbles' character strikes me as being much more "street smart" - he's quick-witted, sharp, & good with people. I see Duquan's character as more intellectual, creative, and introverted. The kind of kid who may be called gay (or a more derogatory term) in school, whether he is or not.
@@MarieProvost77 its interesting to wonder if Bubbles was once more intellectual, but his time on the streets forced him to focus on those street smart skills. Dukie clearly isn’t that street smart but someone who can learn like he can probably can adapt to life on the streets given enough time.
Gotta love Snoop/Felicia...she was the real deal. Heartbreaking watching her talking to Micheal K. Williams now. He died from that shit for real. White dude from Sons of Anarchy did the same thing. Once his character, "Half-Sack" was killed off, the actor killed two people and himself on a PCP binge.
@@troyevitt2437 from a later news report: “Police believe he had been on drugs at the time of his death, but was later found to have been completely sober according to a toxicology report.” It seems like there was speculation that it had been drug-related because he had a history of weed and alcohol use, but evidence suggests that the psychological problems and increasingly erratic behavior in the last couple years of his life stemmed from head injuries suffered in motorcycle accident
I feel real life drug lords as well as the corner boys really took notes from this and applied it to their life. Its sad how law enforcement and politicians really only cares about stats when its all said and done
GTA not choosing this city as their fictional area is a crime to the die hard GTA fans from the early to mid 2000s. I always had a feeling Saints Row 1 could almost pass for it but whatever
Dukie became the new Bubbles, Michael became the new Omar, Avon and Marlo gone, new people step up, the cycle continues, the game never ends. There will always be a new kingpin, new corner boys and new junkies on the street.
Dukie is the Younger, fiender and skinner version of Bubbles. He will lead the new generation of Baltimore crack fiends. This scene is showing that dukie has officially become a dope fiend
4:35 man that acting right there. The immediate joy of the junkie who is about to score, and then the realisation of what he’s actually doing, and what it means.
The child actors on this show were on another level man. By far the best I've ever seen, and it's not like there's only one or two kids, it's pretty much a whole new ensemble and they're all impeccable. And just like in the other seasons, many of the child cast had never acted before yet they all knocked it out of the park. Honestly I can't think of another show with a similarly massive cast of equally talented actors, there's usually quite a few duds but I can't think of a single one in "The Wire", even for the smallest parts with only one or two lines.
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld it helps that the young men are doing a meaningful role, not soap opera crap roles like aj soprano, or tariq st patrick, write them with meaning and care, not heinous and unrealistic
@@theonlygoodonehere2259Yeah definitely, and many of them probably went through similar stuff to the characters they play, making it even more meaningful for them.
I thought Dukie was going to ask Mr P for a place to stay but when he asked for money I knew. Broke my heart because the cycle continues. He's the new bubs 😭
thats why prezbo said : after i give you this money i m never going to see you again am i? and he was right. he also said that if he d find out that dukie never registered, they couldnt and wouldnt be friends anymore. dukie also knew this and dukie knew he was gonna get caught up with his lies, hence why prezbo sorta smiles when he says: i ll go get my stuff. but as soon as he walked past dukie his facial expression changed into: wow the drugs really got to him.
Damn, you could see it coming though. He wasn't accepted by anyone, not a boxer (cutty's gym) not a gangster (scared to shoot a gun with Michael) and obviously bullied throughout school. He'd lost all of his friends and Michael leaving bug with his aunt gave him no purpose. He really had nowhere else to go and that's the sad reality for thousands, heck millions of people like dukie across the country. When a man has nothing in his life he'll try to find comfort anywhere he can which is usually with dope fiends. Though this ending was sad as hell I'll always appreciate how The Wire never sugar coated anything.
Dookie just couldnt apply himself.. his story aint as sad as people make it out to be.... not everyone od a natural at things... he literally gave up boxing after 1 lesson....literally went to shoot a gun 1 time... u think people.who.show up at army training camps aint timid on those first shots? With perseverance anyone can be good at anything... dookie couldve been any of those things he just didn't apply himself hard enough.. no confidence
5280z007 how is he supposed to have confidence in anything when even his own family have sold him out since day one? Literally selling his school clothes for dope money, getting evicted and having to start from scratch every few months. There is no ground to stand on for someone like that. If you don’t see how difficult his situation is you’re honestly just blinded by your own privilege.
4:36 that big ass smile on Dukie's face after Prezbo agrees to give him the money... Every junkie knows that moment when you finally secure the cash and you know the dope's coming soon after, you can damn near taste it on your tongue
Mr. Prez truly wanted to save Duquan. But he eventually moved on to his next set of students and had no room to care for him the way he wanted. And eventually stopped being concerned. It is so sad.
This! After a while, I suspect most teachers give up on their "Dead Poets"/"Dangerous Mimds" Rose tinted glasses not out of apathy, but as a survival mechanism. Otherwise you more than likely will burn out before you even reach ten years of teaching. Add to the fact that you work for an institution that sees you, the most important cog in the machine, as the most disposable and cheap part. I really do wonder these days why they still choose that career. But then again, I'm not really very empathetic to the human condition. That being said, thank you Mr. Hogg and Mr. Marsden. 2 teachers in my schooling life that went above and beyond in helping me to survive and get through school without losing it. Whether it was by one of them teaching me the skill of distraction from my emotions. When I got upset and angry in primary school (yr 6), he would send me to the library with 3 things to look up and research and come back to report what I learned. I never got what he was doing st the time until I grew up. The other one, well when it was clear that I was going to fail my HSC due to undiagnosed learning disability, which lead to me just not even going to school half the time in the end (I also lost some friendships due to social politics of the schoolyard), when I did go to school just for my chemistry classes (because I loved it, even though I had a hard time with the theory), he NEVER ONCE made me feel unwanted in that classroom! I failed test after test. But he never made a thing out of it. Because I guess I still respected that classroom. I never misbehave, made a scene or interfered with other students concentration. And the truth is, when I was really low and depressed, the smile and beauty of a certain girl in my class was the one thing that always brightened up my day/life. Teachers - Truly unsung heroes. Excuse my rant.
Duquan was very smart and he had a good heart. It was really sad seeing him go down such a dark path. Damned if The Wire isn't the best TV drama of all time.
Luther Walker I just rewatched the Wire, Sopranos and Breaking Bad. The three best shows of all time imo. I rank them: 1: Breaking Bad 2: The Wire 3: Sopranos
Far and away the most devastating scene in the whole series. Prez knows that Duke is peddling a lie, and Duke knows that Prez knows. When I watched this scene the first time it honestly sucked the life out of me.
That was just devastating to watch. And Prez kindly lays it out for him, not as a threat, but just as what would happen on both their ends: if they follow through on the lie then Duke will likely never feel comfortable enough to ever come to him again, and he'll have lost his last connection with the "outside". I'd bet if Duke came back after a year or two needing some real help, Prez would of course help him. But he was trying to tell Duke that "this is how it goes - this is how people are lost from your life, and you can expect your world to shrink with each bad step you take."
The scene of him asking for the money is the best/most depressing writing I've seen on television The grizzled appearance of the teacher compared to the clean shaven Newby look he had in the beginning but his quickness to want to still help and dukes willingness to throw away a genuine friendship away for a day or twos high is just incredible and completely soul crushing at the same time Not sure there will ever be another show like this
That's the reality of that poison tho. I heard stories in rehab, taking the fridge, stove, literally anything bolted or not out of their parents house to sell. Selling themselves, any friend, family member or acquaintance is another opportunity to get your fix. There is nowhere low enough that a junkie will not go to get high. I'll never trust a junkie, in recovery or not. I'm sorry but that addiction is never gone, simply at bay.
Heroine in particular is so insidious. It robs you of your agency. Sadly, addicts like that will lie, cheat, steal, scam, and burn any and every bridge just to chase the next high. In many ways its not even their fault. But theres a reason why Bubble's sister was so guarded against him returning and locked him out of the house for probably years. Most likely hes come back a few dozen times and every time she let him in he stole her appliances for drug money. Sadly, Walon is right. The only way out is to hit rock bottom.
The last eye contact between Prez and Dukie was the roughest moment in the show for me. The official farewell to positive influence for Dukie, who simply looks away, well-knowing he has betrayed the last person who genuinely cared for him. Tough shit.
It is what addicts do. They do what they can to get what they need. The scene is was really depressing because it is so common for addicts to lose the people who did love and support them, and we witness this here
siemenssx1 Dukie was already a heroin head when he asked Prezbo for the money. You could see in his eyes that he feels really bad for prezbo but he can't help himself as he's already an addict. Most heroin addicts became hooked their first time trying it and stay fiends until they get a proper support system.Dukie had no support system(one person doesn't count as a system). We don't know where his parents are and his only true friend had to part ways with him.Prezbo could do very little as he didn't see dukie often enough.
As a teacher, this is truly sad to watch. Duke has the "looks" of a shy and poor kid who could have a chance to a better life. But he was eaten by the society he lives in.
Dont get it twisted. He was eaten by open border liberal society. 90% of the heroin in the US comes from Mexico. Liberalism... You know, the society YOU fucking shitbag teachers push on OUR youth. Go fuck your self, piece of shit 🖕 because technically people like you are responsible for nightmares like this. There is a special place in hell for people like you.
Dukie and Randy's story arcs were really tragic. Dukie had the computer smarts to make something of his life but his lousy circumstances started him down the road to becoming a junkie, and Randy had math smarts and a friendly personality but had that beat out of him and ended up becoming a thug after he was sent to live in group home. Two really tragic characters whose misfortunes still make me feel sad years after finishing The Wire.
The scene where Dukie hits up Prezbo for money is one of the saddest scenes in the Wire. They both know where the money is going but they both keep up the act for the sake of the friendship they had. Reminds me of the speech Waylon gives at NA, where he lists all the things he lost to his addiction, and ends it with "the respect of anyone who lent me money or tried to do me a favor"
I don't think Prezbo actually knew it would be for drugs. He knew Dukie wasn't enrolling in school but if he thought it would be for drugs, he likely wouldn't have given him a ride in his car (particularly knowing the world as a former cop).
He knew from the start. Notice the first thing Dukie said was "looks like you got the hang of it" he knows Prezbo isnt the same naive pushover as before. Prezbo knows whats up. Prezbo knew Dukie was into something. Maybe not specifically drugs but something. Considering where everyone was from drugs is always a safe bet though. Prezbo says he doesnt care about the money. Meaning "Dukie I can help you if you need help". Prezbo gave him the money knowing full well he would never see it again but he gave Dukie the choice. If there is any of the old you left in there I am here but if not I wont be here for you ever again and your charm wont work because ill see right through it.
Sean Harris two very good comments. The lead comment and this one. Yeah heroin is a nasty mf. I've had both friends and family ruin their lives with that shit.
This literally makes me sick to my stomach, mostly because it's sad knowing that some teenager is actually going through something like this while I type this comment. Life's crazy.
yeah bro, I was hooked on H at 14 years old. Now listen, I was a weak willed motherfucker but I still got lean eventually with a ton of help, friends, family, appointments. Fuckin breaks ya heart seeing kids get hooked, especially them ones who are strong, smart, kind, endeavouring, creative, whatever. And you know that they could clean up their shit with a quarter of what I had but just, aint no one got the time to give it to them - or the effort to get through to em'. idk, it's just shitty is all - we all gotta learn for ourselves
I always wondered why Prezbo didn't stick to the writing a check for him. If he even slightly suspected Duke was getting high (which he obviously did) why would u give him cash knowing it's prob goin straight in his arm. Don't make sense to me considering Prez cared bout Duke. Like he said, I'd be happy go down there write a check. That's how people play it in real life when they willing to help but don't want u getting high. Cuz if Prez knew it was even 50/50 it's kinda messed up to enable Dukie to get high, N the old head who taking advantage of Duke
The way he looked down in shame after Mr P walked into the school to get his wallet hit me hard. When you’re on that shit you lie and manipulate ppl which is hurtful to them but also yourself. The way he felt there I’ve been there.
Prezbo was not doing well enough to adopt and care for a kid who was too deep into addiction. He ended up with a teacher's salary after that unfortunate shooting of fellow officer. He probably just didn't have the funds and energy to deal with Dukie.
@@vil990 I think his wife was not with it. If i remember, she was kinda not with him and his teacher gig or somethign i cant remember. If only the former sergeant who took in the other kid could take dukie in too. Ugh this hurts man.
@@LEGIONOFKNICKSPODCAST yea that was heartbreaking. The former sergeant (forgot his name) took in Namond who had a pretty privileged life compared to the rest of the kids in the ghetto. And Dukie had it the worst and was bullied. He ended up in an even worse situation and looked like there was no way out for him. The wire really knew how to tug our heart strings. Still my favorite show till this day.
The best and worst thing about the Wire is the reality of it. We are all taught to believe good, intelligent people will rise above and be successful. Dukie was a perfect example that in the real world that is far from the truth. He was smart and intelligent but in the end his environment owned him.
We're so used to TV giving the good guys the happy ending. The Wire was about real life. Good guys don't always get a happy ending. Bad guys don't always get punished. Good people turn to drugs. Good people get shot. Bad people use good people.
@@citomakaveezly yeah ...me and my fiance broke up over me finding out she relapsed after 4 years clean. Then she got good and and me and the kids went to the hospital to her when she had a MS attack. She promised she would come back to us and she did. Everything was good then I caught COVID and had to leave them to be in the hospital. For no reason out of nowhere she asked me for 300 dollars and it was wierd cus I was deadly sick and I knew she made money so I was like why and she said to pay her phone bill. I talked to her later that night and she said she'll call me when she gets off work and it was 10pm ....next morning her brother found her Odee from fentanyl and coke overdose. The cycle never ends and it's just fucked up ....she was only 27
It shows jus hard hard it is to rise above the environment and vices around you. Especially if u in the jungle. It takes a lot and even then if u make it u out u ain’t the same. It changes you, idc Imma show my kids this series cus almost the exact same thing happens on the streets
Yeah, I got the why him's with Randy too. He was a good kid who almost always had a smile on his face, until it disappeared for good after his foster mom's house was firebombed.
This was definitely the most heartbreaking arc for me in the whole show, Dukie showed such promise, but was always given a bad hand, and never complained bout it, he was a good kid, and Pryz saw that and tried to help him, but still he ended up a junkie, sadddd!
I think everyone should watch this show. A lot of people show no sympathy to addicts and shun them, Dukies story shows you how it happens to people, and that a person with a good heart can still fall into the trap.
Correction: a lot of us have no sympathy for white heroin junkie now.....crack ravaged our neighborhoods, family.and friends and our community got was jail....no rehab, sympathy, understanding, compassion.....just jail, minimum mandatory sentences and a record
@@kimberlywhitehead22 you’re ignorant. My addiction got me two prison bids and many trips to jail. I never got offered any probation or drug treatment programs. Just boom prison. Now I have a record that can never be erased and watched some of my best opportunities at life pass me by. Get out of your fantasy world.
I was so sad at Dukies spiral. This: the bullying, the ineffective parenting, the social stigma....all signs that heroine was gonna be his future. it's one thing to need to escape one aspect of your life but to have a need to escape every aspect of it...smdh. There are Duquans out there by the thousands.
As a teacher watching the entire show it broke my heart because I work in the same environment that they are in. I have students struggling and to see someone like Dukie fall into the spiral of drugs broke my heart. I wish there was a different ending for him but it’s reality.
I teach in an environment that’s rough, not BALTIMORE rough, but rough. And this is partly why I couldn’t teach high school. To see kids in this environment is to realize that 95-99% are already fated…either they’re gonna go on and have a chance, or they’re gonna wash out. At least with the younger ones, it feels like I still have a chance at a greater impact not just academically but as a mentor. I’ve seen so many Dukies and it never gets easier.
Prez knows he's being lied to but wants to give Duquan the benefit of the doubt not because of who he is, but because of the person he used to be. Duquan is clearly uncomfortable about lying to Prez, like he's unhappy that this is what his life has come to but feels its the only way forward. Both of them realize this is going to be the last time they speak to one another as friends. Moments like this are why the show never had mainstream appeal. It's just too sad and real for most people to handle. They're more upset at being reminded of these problems than they are at the problems themselves.
Prezbo, from loser to fucking hero. What an amazing character, plus This one is loosely based co-creator and ex cop turned teacher. Ed Burns. I love the Wire sooo much, it's not normal. Best Tv Show. Ever.
@LVhasAIDS @Shortcut The Sopranos has nothing on The Wire. The Wire showed the corruption from the streets all the way to the top levels of government in the city of Baltimore. Ed Burns was never a teacher. He was always a Baltimore police officer who became a detective, and David Simon was the newspaper reporter who reported on all this drama that was happening. The Sopranos was nothing but a demonstration and depiction of how unfaithful, disloyal, and twisted the world of the Italian mafia was. Smh
@LVhasAIDS sopranos has the best cast. acting is on par on both, but sopranos have alot of fairy tale shit. the wire is based on nothing but real life stories.
One of the darkest scenes in the series for me was Dukie walking down into the dope den with nothing but a flaming trashcan burning like a dim brazier as he reluctantly steps back into the hell he was borne into. Awful, haunting kick-the-dog moment if ever I've seen one. His was a black tale...
you couldnt have put that any better man, it really was horrible stays with ya for for a while after that episode. it was sad enough michael and dukie coming to the end of their friendship but then to see that and even dukie hesitation jesus heavy
Nothing sadder in the world than wasted talent. A truly tragic end. It's haunting and a all true reality in real life for countless lost young black men in Amerikkka.
Possibly the saddest story in any show ever! Saddest part is that their are a million Duquans in this world, good kids that would do better if they just had someone who cares and could give them a shot at a quality life. People complain so much about bs that doesn't matter but there are people out there who would kill to have what some of us would consider "a bad day".
Real life is much sadder then u think, there are billions around the world suffering while the other billion live in low/middle class/rich, better be thankful u were born in the peaceful part of the world
Dukie was a smart kid but didn't have any role models. he was looking to belong but the only ppl that really excepted him for who he was is the dope fiends sad as it is he gave up. You are who you hang with
It's more than that. Everyone that cared about Dukie ended up leaving him. Prez had to let him go. Namond found a better life. Ricky ended up in a foster home. Michael had to dip out after killing snoop. It wasn't a matter of who his friends were, it was a matter of him ending up with none
Vince Johnson plus his parents had got evicted he tried to get a job but was to young and Mike was his only true friend after he left he had nowhere to go it's sad but I predicted early on when I first seen Dukie he was gonna get turned out on drugs I was hoping it didn't happen.
Jet Rodel Thats why family comes 1st. You can have the best friends in the world, but most people can't rely on friends as much as they can rely on their family. Sadly dukie and many other people in real life don't have a much of a family or a family at all.
Heroin/fent. It really has done a number on my soul. I'm 40 years old going on the third week of no B or fent. When you're on the streets... anything goes to get your fix. Ya shot out the couple of teachers that actually cared about me. 💯💯💯💪💪💪💪
I love the friendship bond Michael, Randy, Namond & Dukie shared. Even though he was a kid that was never fresh, occasionally stunk they still kicked it with him. It’s sad what happened man, how they all drifted apart. Michael got deep into the drug game, Randy was labeled a snitch & got his foster mothers house torched so he had to go back in to the system, Dukie ended up becoming a heroin addict & Naymond pretty much made out best of all of them. Bunny Colvin adopted Naymond & took him in, showed him how to be a man & helped him bring out his intelligence he had stored away all that time! Honestly, wish that would of happened for Dukie.
I’m just glad namond made it out. He’s on the rise he’s a smart kid too. These kids just need a chance. Honestly all the kids in this show are the most interesting part of this classic show. Not just those 4 but Sherrod, kenard, Wallace. Man i grew up with people just like em and most never get a chance no matter how smart they are. The hood eats you alive
Which is the point. The one most deserving doesn’t always get the best ending. Kids that deserve better circumstances don’t get them. Yet, we’re so quick to smear them as criminals and irresponsible and whatever other adjectives and nouns we can think of.
Igetsitin89 When you hit a certain age you know when someone is lying to you, especially when that person is younger, not only because the lies tend to be blatantly obvious, but because of the insistence and emotion behind it to make you believe it. It's like when you lied to your parents about stupid stuff, thinking they bought it and then when you're a parent and your kid lies to you you're like really?
Duquan's story was even sadder than Wallace's. At least Wallace's pain ended. Duquan never stood a chance. No family structure. No one cared about him. He was the one that I hoped would come out clean on the other side and it never happened. I grew up around a lot of Duquan's. One of the worst parts of my childhood was watching kids go through this. It also made me appreciate my mother's efforts to keep me out of the streets by whatever means necessary even more.
The worst part about this is that Dukie was like 16 when he started shooting up...Bubz was like 30 when he started. He mentioned having a wife and a kid and his wife kicked him out.
That was literally me until I got my shit together, 10+ years clean. But I was 15 doing dope with a 34 yr old thinking we're friends like assholes. Smh sad.
I'm going to be mad honest but when I saw this I fucking cried for Duquan. Just seeing this made me so goddamn emotional even though he's a fictional character in a TV show. This kid has got alcoholic/drug addicted parents who sell his belongings and kids who pick on him for being the nice person he is - and now he wants to escape his life using heroin. This and Omar getting killed are probably the two saddest scenes in all of the Wire.
As much as I like Omar, not sure his death was all that sad. If anything it pisses me that a lil' shit like Kenard ends up killing him. I thought Omar would have died guns blazing. Wallace getting killed by Bodie and Poot, that was sad. They were supposed to be his boys. Wallace was actually a good kid. But also had no direction.
@@devinmc8452 but still it's crazy how most of the actors on the Wire were relatively unknown and yet it became one of the best acted and casted (and written) series of all time
Red Davis ur fucked up for repeating that nigga 😂😂😂 he used bully the fuck outta him. Only nice thing I remember is him giving Dukie a dollar cas Mike said so 💀💀💀😭
I honestly didn't see him becoming an addict. He was constantly trying to find something to do, going from the corner, to boxing and even trying to get a job. Sadly, junkies were the only ones who would take him in.
How many people where Dukie before life happen? Never judge anybody unless you walked in their shoes and know what they been through. Smart and lovable kid, then this thing called life really took over. God bless to all the Dukies in the world today
4:52 Holy SHIT that face Prez makes is haunting... First time I really noticed how good his acting in this scene was. Anything else to take my mind off how depressed I am at how Dukie's story turned out
Try not to judge him for lying to prezbo. One of the most common features of addicts and desperate people is betraying people closest to them. Happens everytime itll turn your own loved family members against you trust me
Mugen123456789 Yep..it's easy to manipulate those who care for you. Even if they know the truth, they want to BELIEVE the lie, because the reality can be too painful.
Yup when my brother did meth he did illogical things like steal my car keys and not even steal my car. I couldn't even take him to get food because he was scared people were out to get him. I still love my brother and I worry about him being on the streets again but the one week I let him stay with me was honestly a nightmare.
Dukie was like right around the corner from being whatever he wanted to be other than a substance abuser. Bright kid like so many more just get caught up lack of opportunity understand our blessings. All we can do is help where we can!
He was a homeless kid who had no family or friends to support him. Even before becoming homeless (this time, which was to remain permanent), he was linked to that world via the corners and Michael. He was far from being 'right around the corner from being whatever he wanted'' despite Prezbo's kind heart. More realistic to suggest he was doomed from the start. Like many kids all over the world. I do like your last sentence however. I am from a good family and I do not take it for granted. It is just pure luck where you will be raised and by whom, too many like Dukie are on the wrong side of this luck :(
To this day I cannot watch any of dookie scenes without getting angry to the core this show is so real the one person that needed just that one little push . Dookie was my favorite character on the show, he was such a good kid caught up in such a f***** up world
@@socallawrenceI saw this back in 2008 when it first aired 14 years ago she was not thinking about his appearance she was thinking about how tall he is the actor hit puberty and had a unusual growth spurt the last time she saw him he was short like 5'5 or 5'6 then a couple months later he is 6'3 tall with deep voice so in her mind she did not think he was the same short kid she knew in the past

americanlt100 No that wasn't the point. He kinda knew but still gave him the shot instead of not giving it to him and not knowing if he would play him or not.
Prezbo knew 100% that Duke was lying. The GED story Prez fished out as BS right away, and the fact Duke balked at the check was more than enough for any sane adult to know something ain't right. Personally, I think it's messed up Prez gave him cash knowing he's a kid and knowing it was even 50/50 that cash would be going straight in his veins
Even though I despised that School Principal in S4, She was right when she told him that there will be other kids like Duquan around. Its hit/miss when it comes when Teachers Mentor kids who might not have the best of home lifes. Some slip through the cracks, others get saved. Dukie was just the 1st that Slipped through the Cracks for Prez
I knew Dukie was going to be a tragic character from the jump. I just didn't know which way he was going to turn. With everyone picking on him I thought he was going to turn into a psychopathic killer. The end of the last episode of the show depicts how everything comes full circle. Dukie became Bubbles, Mike became Omar, Slim became Avon. It's the circle of life, some positive like Poot, Cutty and Namond, and some negative like Randy and little Kenard who is bound to be the new Chris.
The only hope this gives me, is that Dukie followed Bubbles path. He got into the drug habit young, learned how to survive on the streets, masted his 'craft', eventually worked with the police, met Michael again when he was older, and eventually left this life similar to Bubbles. That's all I can hope for...
Dam the bubbles shirt forshawdoing he will become the new bubs sad shit I dealt with heroin addiction for 10 years started when I was 13 I'm clean now but I no the struggle
The story of Dukie is just one of the reasons The Wire is one of the best shows in history. Life usually doesn’t have a happy ending, especially for thousands of Baltimore inhabitants every year. Good kid or bad. I love this show with such a passion due to its real world details of addiction, violence, and real Baltimore topics. . “I’m outdoors now” A good kid growing up in the murder and heroin capital. The saddest part is he never stood a chance
this was probably one of the most heartbreaking, troubling things ive seen in any tv show. but it needed to be done. the writers did an amazing job in showing the raw truth. and btw i just farted
The Wire is such a fantastic show! The sympathy you feel for the charcters is remarkable, great writing and acting. They gave all such a complete personality. Even stone cold killers could be charming. One of the three best shows ever.
Damn this was such a good show. They should do a Chicago version of this with today's crimes and police corruption going on here. It'll make a good show
dubreil07 no it's not most murders in Chicago happen in certain areas . If u only take the population and base it off bmore Chicago is worse. Chicago isn't as bad cause it has millions of people even though the killings happen in certain areas.
"Teacher must love your black ass" Dukie then turns around and sees the disappointment on Prezbo face and realizes he lost the only friend who would do anything for him over $200
Max Julien there was a crackhead at the beginning of the series named bubbles. And Duquan has bubbles on his shirt. It’s symbolism, directors do it all the time in films to see if you catch it, when u DO catch it u realize what’s happening. Dukie is the new Bubbles. Dukie=Bubbles Mike=Omar
siemenssx1 yea but if there was an unending supply of money most would be living in a house. With your logic all the famous junkies in history would be homeless. The reason many junkies stay homeless even with enough money to stay somewhere is when youre addicted you also think about running out and if it comes down to having a place to stay and being dopesick or being well and sleeping outside most will take the latter
If you look at countries like Switzerland and pourtugual they give addicts drugsfrom doctors and since they don't spen all money and time scoring a lot of them amange to get settled lives and then get clean, the war on drugs is ruining more lives than the drugs themselves.
sjewitt22 ...in places like China the. country. supplies the addicts there with herion so they are able to keep a job an dont have to worry about getting that fix...an the reasin they do that is the Chinese are very work orientated people an would rather you earn a living without the worry of taking care of a habit...it makes them look bad to the world if they had drug addicts in the streets like here in the u.s.a....i couldnt believe this either when i first heard about it
Fuck man, I have a really hard time watching the wire due to the all the flashbacks and memories it stirs in me. Seeing your peers that you grew up with in the Foster System, turn into addicts, criminals and reflections of the people who hurt them really fucked me up. Survival of the fittest. As much as I want to say I survived by my own accord and made something of myself in turn; In reality I had so many mentors and people who pushed me to go beyond my comfort zone; in addition to daily reminders of what would happen to me if I couldn't do it. So many beautiful kids who had potential like Duquan, but their environment and biological parents could not nuture or take care of them, let alone their own selves. Rising above poverty and the hood does make you strong, but that darkness and despair is forever imprinted in your soul.
I hate what happened to Dukie he was such a sweet boy with a great heart it brought me to tears each time I watched his scenes he really had it rough if they were to do a reboot (which would be awesome👍😃) I would love to see how his story would play out
Lavtrabia Lawson you sound stupid. I'm from the hood my whole life and there are plenty of black dope fiends. Of course the majority of users are white because there are more whites than blacks in America but trust me when I tell you this herion has no face. In trenton nj Camden nj I've seen hundreds of people just like dookie. That's besides the point people from every creed, race, and ethnicity use heroin. Unfortunately it takes complete control over ones mind, body, and soul
By far and away the saddest character development in what was for me at least an extremely emotionally charged series. I’ve lived in New York my whole life not Baltimore but this same exact system, community, and the institutions around them all exist in the same way. There was a kid in my hood named Brooke who was an intelligent and sweet kid who wouldn’t hurt a fly, much like Dukie. Only a couple years after high school I found him strung out in front of a 7-Eleven picking up cigarette butts in an attempt to smoke what was left, as he was asking people for their spare change. It wasn’t too long after that his fatal overdose occurred and when it happened I couldn’t help but think of the potential he had and how it was lost so easily because people never thought much of him, and would usually just clown him. This show was so brilliant, to the point where when I re-watch it now it is so relatable that it makes me think of my now deceased friend and I begin to tear up.
