My grandparents came from Norway and I remember when I was little her having a cheese press but it was real crude looking maybe my grandfather made it do not know where it went but this video brought back some good memories! Thank You
Very interesting Dale, and an ingenious use of keep fit dumbbells! We have some old meat weights (my grandfather was a butcher) and he used to use those for various things in his butchers shop that required specific weights to be applied. When he retired and closed his shop we "inherited" them, and they're now used for a variety of things from keeping doors open to weighing bin lids to keep mice out! Thanks for sharing - I look forward to seeing the other cheese videos in due course, when they come out of the "cheese cave"!
I've been watching your channel for awhile now. You are so clever and do such an outstanding job at everything! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos.
Thanks for your cheese making video`s. I showed it to my wife, and we purchased a cheesemaking kit. Just waiting for my 2+ gallon pot, to give it a try.
I can't wait to see the finished product!! That is a very cool press, I am totally ignorant to the cheese making process so I'm excited to watch how you do it.
It is all new to me too. I have four videos in the works and yesterday my hard drive crashed. Off to the Apple Store on Monday. I have an apple time machine so hopefully everything is backed up.
+Linda Kiefer Thank you Linda. Until this winter I had only made soft goat cheese like you said back in the dim and distant past when I had goats. I must say I am enjoying the new learning process. I'm uploading a video now on Camembert, it should be out this weekend.
Hi Dale, Nice and simple device looking forward to see how the cheese came out, I have lots of those small dumbbells everywhere around the house might finally make a good of use of these ;)
+Raf's Kitchen Garden Very simple and very clever design I was surprised at how well it works. I was a while coming up with the dumbbell idea and surprised to find out that I could by them individually and very reasonably priced.
Well, I'm almost finished my seed organizing, and my cheese making is next on the list. I have looked at the cheese box for weeks and I can't wait to choose the one I'm going to try first. This video is making me jealous! I wish I was as far along as you are, but if I don't get frozen in, I will be getting the milk for it next week. Going to be -10F or -30C tonight and with the wind chill, it may be even worse. bbbrrr. Loved your weights, looks like fun to me! Bless, Sheila
I'm really enjoying it Sheila. We had minus 17C here yesterday and it was supposed to keep getting colder but that seems to have changed only minus 9 this morning and the forecast says the same for tomorrow.
***** Now THAT is cold! Craziest weather I have ever seen here. Warm one day, freezing the next. I'm short on kerosene for my backup heater and didn't even know it! We are getting snow on Monday so I have to get some kerosene just in case. I had everything ready only to find all the containers were empty! I never do that, I'm the one that likes backups for my backups! I really wish I had a stove like yours, I like it very much. I'm also going to see if I can get some raw milk from the Amish for some of my cheese making too. I've never tried it before so we will see. Stay safe, and keep warm. Sheila
***** Yes, I had read that, and one of the farms has some that many buy from for cheese making. All the others are Amish but that one. One of my friends, friend has raw milk too, but I don't know if I can use that one for cheese yet, should know by tomorrow. I may just go with the regular milk until I feel safe with the raw. I don't want to jump in and use it, when I don't know enough about it yet. Bless, Sheila
Hi Dale - I just came across your video. Did you make this press? I am trying to decide if I should buy plans to make one or buy one. Leaning towards buying one has making one would require me cleaning my garage to make space to build one!
Thank you very much for sharing. I am just venturing into home cheese making and will copy your cheese press with a couple of slight modifications if you have no objections.
Enjoy your cheesemaking Peter. I don't mind at all I didn't build the press. Actually I don't use it anymore I have a larger one now I should sell it on eBay.
Hi, Dale! That's a really interesting contraption there. Looks like it works really well. It also looks like it's a pretty straight forward design, too. I'm wondering if something like that could be made with a little bit of scrap wood, a band saw (or jig saw), and some extra down time over the winter months. ;) Very nice. Thanks for the review.
+The Homestead Chronicles I've seen someplace online that sells a set of plans for making your own press. This certainly is a simple design and it works very well.
Hi Dale, Can you give us the length of the hanging bar and the distance between the screws on it and also the positions of the notches from the end. I am in Africa and my chances of buying something like this are fairly limited, but making it seems easy enough.
By having store bought weights you could record your weights used and results and what works best...And Share! Cheese making would certainly be valuable knowledge if/when we're all living off the land again. I forgot Can tire was largely tires at one time..
So far I'm just trying to get the weight as close as possible to the suggested weight in the instructions. Sometimes a pound or two over I think that is better than being under weight. Canadian tire isn't even mostly automotive anymore you can get almost anything there now.
você tem o projeto de construção dessa pressa sou daqui do Brasil e adorei sua ideia meus parabéns sucesso tenho Canal no youtube também quando puder nos faça uma visita grande abç sucesso!
The first position in witch u can hang those weights is not x2, is more close to x3. I can show u the maths; I'll be pleased to. Btw, the press is great!
You kow most Western nations have freedom of the press. We are free to press cheddar, muster, or a nice paramsean cheese if we like. Thats right its our rights as indivuduals to press any cheese we see fit that put us on top of the world. Lets see the ordinary Ivan try to press some cheese not sanctioned by the state in Putin's Russia. I mean who puts a guy in office named after cheese and gravy covered chips?
