Hello @BritSimon - I think that a video on the reason why a case may be disqualified and hence generate a hole/gap ahead of the announcement may be a good idea. It may have the added benefit of getting people to do a better job during the submission phase in October/November. It would be good!

I'm just thinking: the highest numbers in DV 23 are 35xxx in EU and 65xxx in AF. There are 50-55k visas available, there are approximately 120k winners (+ -). If so, there are large holes between case numbers and 60-70k of DV24 in EU may be like 35k in DV23. Can it be this way?...

Hello Brit Simon, I want to ask my case that if you may help and direct. I have a scheduled visa interview for F-1 in the end of May. And on 6th of May I got that I have been selected for Green Card, however case number is around 39K. So, my question is that if I submit the DS-260 form now, would it appear on the system as the intention of immigration and visa officer can ask about that and reject? So what would you advice about that? Can I fill and submit DS-260 without waiting for F-1 interview?

Lots of people "won" their DV lottery this year because of two things happening at the same time: applying without a passport and huge fee increase this summer. The fee increase will have a severe impact on the number of applicants willing to proceed. Especially in Africa. The family of 4 has to be ready to pay 10+k.

@BritSimon how and when are the case numbers generated. Some confuse it with the confirmation numbers and how it impacts one’s chances of being selected.

Hi bright thank you for your helpful information, please i need clarity on this According to ceac data, there are 5505 cases before and 27637 after me in the AF region. That yields approximately 9140 people before and 45888 after me. And my case number is at nvc since December but I have not yet received the 2nl will I get a chance to be interviewed,since there is a slow movement in the Accra embassy, and if I will get interviewed when should I be expecting my 2nl?

I lost my confirmation number and have been trying to retrieve it but I’m not receiving any email containing my confirmation number however when I place forgot my confirmation number and filling out all the information correctly & hit submit, right above forgot my confirmation number there is a number that appears. I have tried so many times and the number doesn’t change so I guess it could be the number only that all the Survey I did after I lost my number says that you only receive the confirmation number which you lost through an email. The case number in Africa for example means the sequence of all Africans that win or just the winners in your country. For examle im number 100k is that means that 102k and 99k are from the same country morroco or they may not they are from another African country please answer 🙏

Hello Britaimon! I have a question please. My friend got selected and when she applied she included her husband and kids which one of them had turned 21 like almost 2 months before the lottery started. She thought it was 21 and under. Now when she enter to fill up the ds260 her daughter’s name is there with all of them. Should she just ignore it and not complete it or she needs to remove it from her list and if so how she can do that. Some numbers for very small countries do not seem to make sense. The visa lottery is something you must keep tabs on year by year, or else that small window of opportunity escapes you. To imagine almost a 1000 persons from some small island waiting around for this particular window raises interesting questions. And added to that not everyone has constant access to computers (personally I find mobiles a pain to do any serious work). Plus there is need to make sure that photos are done professionally or else it does not upload.. I see numbers like 600 pretty high for populations of 100,000 plus people. This raises a lot of questions.

2024 EU 33200 I just heard today about the case no. predictions and got devastated- I applied from North Macedonia, and that’s part of Europe… and people are telling me it’s one of the last numbers to be called for interview (if ever). I only started panicking when I saw 2023 bulletin delegating 32000 as last number for September… But hope dies last, so I’ll be waiting for the September 2024 bulletin to give up 😄

Hello @BritSimon - One question, what if from some small country there are a lot of entrants with high case numbers? Does that mean that a lot of people will not get chance to go to interview because of the high case numbers? We got EU41XXX and I guess that number is too high even there are a lot of holes in DV2024...

Is there any way to find out how many people apply from each country per year? We could then know our chances of winning

If someone got selected in the DV2024 maybe the interview will be in March 2025. Can they still apply for tourist visa (DS160) in 2023 if they were planning to visit with friends???
