they missed like 90% of the notes on guitar hero and they're acting like they are the best players in the world

Lesson to be learned, Disney XD thinks the best part about lets plays is the yelling.

I'm surprised Swoozie is on a Disney show after he talked about working for them. He didn't have nice things to say.

For anyone too lazy to look up the neopets video, basically Pan and his girlfriend talk about having a baby and Pan loses it. You can tell that they’re joking (albeit it’s not funny, just a lot of cringe), but they drag the joke on and on that some might think they’re being serious.

Gaming isn't the same without the swears and controversy.

This reminded me of a clip on some Nick show where fans gave you tips in video game tips. One little girl's tip for the game Spyro was to attack the enemies BEFORE they attack you.

It could have worked if not for the censorship. You can't cover M rated games on a G rated show. Everyone watching this is already also watching on RU-vid, so a censored version is pointless.

At least the block was progressive. It broke the glass ceiling for the most oppressed group of all: gamers.

Ok, I love Swoozie, but he's not really a let's player. He's a gamer, and he talks about his love of video games, but most of his videos are animated storytimes. Why Disney thought putting him on a group let's play show was going to work is beyond me.

I don’t like these gaming shows on Disney XD, they’re cringey. Honestly, it’s trying to be something per edgy and it just fails hilariously. Also, Gamer Guides to Pretty Much Anything was kind’ve the start to all the gaming on Disney XD, snd that show was a slap in the face to gamers and anyone that liked games.

Problem with this is kids move on to new things really fast. My two little siblings watch these shows for like 2 weeks and stopped and moved back onto some RU-vidr.

Parker plays?! He was once the representitive for the minecraft minigames server "mineplex". He got paid to play the minigames and make other minecraft content. It went, ok I guess but that wasn't enough so he went independent. Kinda glad he got picked up by Disney at least for how long it lasted.

You know it was gonna fail the minute they censor a lets players but then everything felt like a bad sketch show with a very low budget and an overload of cringe

This reminds me of when Projared was on the one Nick show with them there videa games. It's as if they just looked and were like "Hm... who's special with dem dare kids and vidiya gaims." Without actually doing research and knowing how Jared is a very special man who made a video about reproductive organs, can switch between being really analytical and serious to hilariously dumb in a second, and will go crazy and destroy a city if some fool shows 10 arrows to him. Though it seems they're all finally learning to stick with what they can do and not try too hard to appeal to the kids, as it just results in backlash.

Not to mention that in Player Select they feel the need to make some sort of annoying edit every 5 seconds

It's a good idea for the kiddos, but they went around it all wrong. Make this into some Toonami block for Disney XD, make it intended for more mature viewers, and make more shows have more production value and then end the block for the night with Waypoint (Which was the only thing I cared to watch) and if the want, livestream Esports or show off the 'best of' moments. If Disney is trying to cater to gamers, they can't be afraid to have more expressive freedom on their network like how RU-vidrs can just be themselves.

If you were given the opportunity to have small 5-20 minute segments on CN or Disney or Nick doing what you do now and talking about animation history and animated shows, but had to keep the humor PG or lower, would you do it? Or would you rather it show late night on Toonami or Adult Swim or some other late night block and keep your stuff the same?

God the whole Polaris/TGS network really went to shit. The whole channel is completely dead and everyone who cared left. Sucks to see that this was the end result of it.

In Australia we had 'Good Game', and later 'Good Game: Spawn Point'. GGSP was on the kids network, so all mature titles were on the mainshow, but it did have interviews with developers and a robot called Darren, who was a knock of Darlek with pasta scoops for hands.

The aftermath: Parker Plays stays, with rarely few occasional esports/tournaments w/o the D|XP branding but using the "latest" 'General audience program' bumper. Tbh, I was that guy who watched the Smash Bros tournament on the channel, and the Nintendo World Championship, and boy were there glitches, especially on the first week. Actually, the block and even the DXD channel itself was glitchy by late-May of that year. Fun fact: for Smash Bros Tournament there were audio issues on the SAP (2nd audio used for Spanish). In the first 5 or so minutes you could hear nothing except for music of any clips being played, something the audience. It was fixed really quickly. Also, since DXD is an ad-supported network like CN, some cable providers in some areas added their local ads (i.e your provider ads, that local event/store that you think it's that good it's on national television but it isn't) during matches, runing the moment. It happened twice or 3 times before DIsney fixed it. Apparently some engineer forgot to disable the locals breaks timestamps so most systems thought ads were being played. Also, they messed up the SAP, made the SD signal to 16:9 forced, and stuff no one cares about knowing during that Summer. Oh yea, and during DXD runs, they would sometimes be a "SIGN OFF" program slot just to be replaced by an automated run of Phineas and Ferb, with generic ads/shorts. Pretty sure DXP won't come back, just like Disney XD's other failed "mature" blocks. If no one recorded those shows during its run from the TV or from their site, then they'll become lost media overtime.

see here's the thing- why doesn't dxp start a new show which just does game and pop culture reviews in the style of jontron/pbg/caddicarus? those things would be about 10-15 minutes worth of runtime and wouldn't be so bad on paper. though knowing disney they'd find a way to fuck it up and wouldn't be able to catch up with the time the game has to be called fresh

Watching Disney XD reminds me of the time I was watching it as a kid and had an existential crisis about how everyone I know and love will eventually be gone and I'll be there sad and regretting it.

Yeah, this is the issue. There's so much potential here, but the problem is the restriction by censorship. AVGN lasted good long time due to no such restrictions. If they took off dem gloves and stopped being so kid-friendly, maybe DXP would be a better programming block.

Two shows are still regularly featured. Around 9PM on Disney XD, they still sometimes feature Parker Plays and Polaris: Prime Time. Since I was a young teen when... this started, I’ll give my opinion on these two shows. Parker Plays is your average PG rated gamer, but with a few differences. Think DanTDM with less personality and way more pandering. The thing that I dislike about is two things. First, they have random different games alongside actual long games played. For example, here’s what an average 22-minute episode’s schedule would look like. Tattletail, Agar.io, Tattletail, RU-vidr’s Life, Tattletail. Why would they split a single game up so much? Second, the production value isn’t put to use. Imagine if every time a game commentator said “Imagine if this happened” casually, then they’d have a five minute skit featuring CaptainSparklez about this scenario. Now Polaris: Player Select. While it is more than a clip show, it’s not worth the extra effort. They heavily edit sections. Instead of getting RU-vidrs to give them more of the content they already do with a higher budget, giving the editors the right to edit how they please, they take low-res videos of RU-vid videos already available for free and censor and edit them badly to be “funny”. Why edit it if people were completely fine with it?

I remember witnessing and watching that block during the summer of 2017. And I still don’t get why the people behind Disney thought it was a good idea to air these shows on Disney XD. The only show I actually liked and still rewatch is Parker Plays and at least Waypoint has a good concept for a documentary. All of the other shows like Polaris: Player Select or Polaris Primetime are just trash content.

After watching this, I miss my G4 watching days of 2006-2012, X-Play, Attack of the Show, their E3 and Comic-Con coverage was my cable news that decade. I knew about this, but it just wasn't the same, and too late, since I don't watch TV anymore and this is cringe cancer.

DisneyXD actually had a show with a few youtubers a while back. as far as I could tell it was just random clips from preexisting videos, only difference being how highly edited they were. they had quite a small catalog of youtubers they used, probably cause they could only get a few to sign the contract. Most of the RU-vidrs on the show were unnoteworthy and unrecognizable, although they somehow got ahold of Markiplier on the show EDIT: ok just watched the full video, he already mentioned it :/

I enjoyed watching Waypoint when it was on, they had this one cool story of a small indie team creating a retro styled game with so many constraints placed against them.

Why watch Let’s play’s if they’re goanna be censored?

I honestly think Player Select is really funny sometimes. It’s the show that I kinda just have on in the background at all times.

Its a shame to see a lot of these gaming youtubers watering themselves and their content down to be family friendly for disney. I think they go striaght to screaming because what else can they really do? I'm not saying that all these lets players are funny but some of them genuienly are and absolutely none of that transitioned well from youtube to tv. I think the problem is that a lot of gaming content just really isnt geared for kids. Kids can watch and enjoy it, sure. But its like the docu-series you mentioned. Interesting to adults, not so much for kids. Kids wouldnt want to know about game mechanics or someone elses views on main story points. They want screaming and fast moving images.
