I have my own lore, but it's nothing official and is all my own theories. So, there exists two realms. The realm of regular pop culture and videogames that we all know and love, and this realm, where the animations take place. The beings here are corrupted, born with a hole inside of them. They'll slowly change into primal creatures with unstoppable powers, like the dark squidward we see here. Santiago, however, knows of this, and became the protector of the realm. He knows the truth about the characters, and as such, kills them before they fully transform. Santiago hasn't been in the latest episodes. He's vanished. If these cartoons are left to their own devices, they will destroy both realms. Only Santiago can save us.

The reason this is so unsettling is that some characters are normal while others are cursed, and the normal characters act like there's nothing wrong. It is like an uncanny valley world.

did you not see how powerful squidward is? he easily killed plankton and presumably could easily kill any other average being. he does this with no weapon, but santiago always uses a gun. santiago is dead, something dark has changed spongebob, and we've entered a new era. something squidward this way comes.
I always thought that squidward imagining himself killing the customers was just some kind of comedic effect added into the animation but after working at taco bell for a year its actually very realistic

Actually the real evil villain of spongebob Is Mr krabs himself. The producers how ever wants to show us that Krabs is just a normal side character , but he is the true hidden villain in this show. I mean he did so many crimes Murder , cannibalism , violent towards a death body , manipulation , lying , only cares about himself and his money , would do anything for money , there is even a Theorie that he killed pearls mother and cooked her meat. And he only wants pearls meat to get ready so he can kill her too
