This is NOT a complete step by step DIY, I wish I could've made one but complications set me back. This video still shows you most of the steps to install N54 turbos, and highlights the nuances with Dynamic Autowerx turbos! Stay tuned for a lot of content with these turbos.

Below are all the links you'll need, including an affiliate link! Full disclosure, if you do purchase the turbos through this link I will get a small cut, which will help me out a ton and go towards more modifications for the car!

As you saw in the video, I did struggle quite a bit with the VRSF relocated inlets, specifically with relocating the coolant expansion tanks. While I was able to make all of it work, things just didn't fit as expected and the quality of parts provided wasn't the greatest. I can't recommend it personally, but the ARM kit for sale may potentially be better.

Lovin em! Unfortunately I blew an axle a couple weeks ago due to the torque they produce down low combined with me being an idiot hahaha. M3 rear subframe swap coming soon to the channel

I got rid of that trash vrsf relocation kit for the same reason. Super janky, had to modify most of the parts on the kit and it still fit really poorly. Contacted them about it and they just sent me a photo taken from MMPs website lol. Super happy with the turner kit, just don't order it from Turner/ECS because you'll be waiting months regardless of what their estimates say and they will hold up your entire order if one thing isn't in stock

Glad I'm not alone lol, I guess the appeal for me was the alu inlets as I was concerned abt silicone ones getting crushed. But thats really not an issue with the relocated ones anyways. Wish I had thought about that more when I first did this lol. I'll probably buy their expansion tank first and some day install their inlets

@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham Год назад
I appreciate it! Unfortunately I've only put about 2k miles on the car but they've been fantastic. Pushing 20psi of boost with a wedge tune on 91 (still direct injection only), and while I have no dyno numbers I'd guess mid to high 500s to the wheels. Lots of potential to grow though especially with port injection and ethanol

This is the car I'd love to have with these mods. I guess I'm kind of close but just the very LOW low budget version. Ebay 17T's etc. But hey lots O power still! LOL!

Yes absolutely! Only thing it takes awhile to get through allll the N54 maintenance items, and just replacing old worn out parts. Over my 5 years of ownership its received a lot of new parts hahaha

@@SamAbraham You said it Sam! LOL. I'm doing it now and searching for a stupid boost back pressure leak. It's driving me NUTS! As well I'm hunting for the reason for the throttle surge. Or at least a power surge. I don't know if it's fuel related. I'm learning about reading data logs but trying to keep an eye on the gauges while driving is not my strong point LOL. I have just one code left to get rid of. 2D33- Absolute - Pressure Sensor, Intake Manifold: Signal. Sigh.........poo.

It has been great so far, unfortunately the car was down for long after I blew my diff. Ended up going the M3 subframe route, using an F8X CF one piece driveshaft. It took way too long as I'm busy going to school 150 miles away haha, but now its all done and im ready to put some more miles on the car. I've only put about 3-4k miles on the turbos believe it or not but they've been great

how would you compare this job to doing the clutch? i know ill have to do this soon enough and the clutch is probably the biggest job ive had to do. Although i think that was relatively simple this looks a lot more complicated 😂
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 7 дней назад
This job is complex more because of the lack of space. In my case doing it while on my back on the floor of my garage with the engine still in the car was a challenge, but not impossible of course. Having access to all the hoses and bolts is definitely what makes this job more tiring than others. There are less variables to be concerned with while doing a clutch job imo. All of the hoses and o-rings are enough to ruin your day if one thing is out of line. My advice is buy OEM hoses for coolant and oil lines, even some of my OE ones didn’t like up as they should. It’s significantly more expensive but worth it. Buy extra o rings too, a lot of the slots are sharp and cut the o rings if you insert them at even the slightest angle. Also just give yourself plenty of time and do it slowly
@eninety

@@SamAbraham thank you appreciate it! ill remember those tips. atleast ill be able to take it slow so i wont be rushed

How many miles on the car when the turbos blew?
@SamAbraham

114k. They were pushing 19-21psi for over 30k miles, and the car had been tuned since around 75k miles. Can't complain, never had wastegate rattle either

@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 2 года назад
For relocated inlets, yes it is. You need new inlet tubes regardless with these turbos as they have a bigger inlet, I like the benefits of relocated so I went with that. You could do stock location upgraded inlets though and that would avoid relocating anything.

Are DAW chinese turbos? Ive seen different videos of diffrent brands and the comment section mention they are all chinese made with exception of Pure and RB.
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 2 года назад
To my knowledge no, in fact I have heard the contrary about Pure. They just have better quality control than the typical china turbo. While I've heard people argue about where DAWs are made, with bespoke manifolds and no need for cores, I don't really care where they were made. DAW claims they're assembled and balanced in Michigan, but I myself cannot prove that. The quality seems great, they perform well, and they back up their product with whatever happens. So, time will tell how these do! Not planning on pushing them too too hard at least for now, but I know people have squeezed high 700whp numbers even with normal flowmaxes like this. 600 is alllll I need.

Just checked the DAW website and looks like they also have 9 blade compressor wheels on both their flow max and flow max +, and then I looked at a pic of the 775RS older turbos and noticed they had the 11 blade compressor. On the flowmax page of the DAW website it says "NEW FLOW MAX SERIES FORGED COMPRESSOR WHEEL DESIGNED BY US TO BE UP TO 15% MORE EFFICIENT THAN THE PREVIOUS WHEEL," so it seems like I managed to get flowmax turbos with 775RS compressor wheels lol. L on me I guess, didnt realize til now. I'll contact them and see what they say

Do you what i would need to install lhd turbos on a rhd wich had a conversion made?what is the reason they didnt fit?Thanks
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham Год назад
The rear turbo fitment is very different in terms of the housing and where the line fittings are positioned. It would require custom lines, inlets, and outlets to make them work. I assume this is because the RHD cars have a steering shaft alongside the turbo side of the engine.
