It’s a myth that condenser microphones pick up more ambient noise than dynamic microphones. The ratio of ambient noise to subject noise is dependent upon polar pattern and noise source to microphone distance and not dependent on whether it’s a dynamic or condenser. So for two mics with the same polar pattern and the same distance between subject and microphone capsule the background noise will have the exact same ratio to the subject signal. The reason dynamic microphones appear to have better background noise rejection is because people typically put the sound source closer to the capsule because they tend to be more resistant to plosives and proximity effect. So if you want to use a condenser in a noisier room get as close to the capsule as you would with a dynamic and there will be no background noise difference.

Wow! your information is just what I needed to make a decision. I was going to buy the at2020 + a interface. But as I have limited control of the background noise, I am going to buy a dynamic microphone instead. Thank you.

Thank you for the advice ☺️ what dynamic mic + compressor + expander would you recommend for someone who wants to digitally transform male to female voice & also don’t want the keyboard sound to distort the transformation❓

Thanks so much for the video ❤️ which mic is good for picking up spoken words for someone who like to mumble but don’t pick up keyboard clicks❓Thanks!

Excellent question. Its more of a combination of tools to get the effect your want. A Dynamic mic would be the first start, but I would then add a compressor to help make the audio consistant. It will help even out the lows and highs for when you speaking to low and then get loud to make them sound the same audio gain level. Then to make sure Keyboard clicks are not heard at all, mostly when you not speaking. I would add an expander, which will also help remove noise from the background when your not speaking. Stay subscribed as I have a tutorial in the works that explains all these in more detail coming soon.

I've always used a USB condenser mic..but I am in an open room that is actually a formal dining, right at the front door entrance. I have no sound treatment. I think I need to go with a new XLR dynamic.

Sir, I am beginner. I want to record my written poetry professionally. In which my line will go in high tone and will also come in low tone. Tell me such a mic and audio interface. So that I can record and mix later. My room is not sound proof. My total budget is $300. But a shopkeeper told me that you cannot do recording with dynamic mic. Please tell me what should I do. Tell me such a mic and audio interface that I will not regret after buying.

Disregarding background noise, you would lean towards condenser right? Considering most condensers have better vocal clarity than dynamics?

I got mine at the audio components store in Robinsons Mall. Man its been so long I been to Robinsons due to travel restrictions, I forgot the name of the place.. LOL.. I would be hesitant to by any Shure SM58s though as to many fakes are floating around here. But its an audio store that deals with music instruments, mixers and other professional music stuff. I think the name is Better Components, but please dont quote me :-)

You need to try the new PD-70 Presonus dynamic broadcasting microphone. Compairs to the Shure SM7B. Costs a more than $100.00 to the Shure SM7B. Cost a little more than $100.00.

Are you using a cloud lifter or something similar ? That would help your dynamic microphone.

I have a low cost condensor mic in shipping at the moment. I hope to see how well it works with RTX Voice. I hope that, that would be a strong combo, and a compromise between studio sound with condensor, and dynamic mics. I really don't like the sound of dynamics, and feel like they cut out even with the best of setups. I've only tested RTX Voice with my headset mic, which I assume is a dynamic mic, and of course cheaper than the dynamic used in this test.

Did you use RTX voice while using these two microphones? honestly kinda ruined the comparison in my opinion.
